I look in the mirror and think I'm gorgeous

It's other people that tell me I've got a face like a smacked arse.
So said Kathy Burke in an Observer interview.
She has also described herself as a lifelong member of the non-pretty working classes.
How would GNetters describe themselves I wonder?

I'm under no illusions about how I look, too many chins and a few spare tyres ? but I know my eyes sparkle and my heart is huge & I love my family and friends fiercely

I'm just thankful that I'm short-sighted!

NanaRayna Tue 31-Oct-17 12:32:12

Some days I'm acceptably attractive and other days I'm pleasantly ugly. thlsmile
I'm disappointed not to be gorgeous because I'd love a DH or even a SO, and blokes can be so shallow when there are more fish than anglers! thlsad

I look in the mirror and see my Mother. No she wasn't beautiful - eye of the beholder and all that - but she was very very lovely inside and out. That'll do me big time. As for mirrors that selfsame Mother said 'always have a full length mirror just inside the front door. You'll see if your skirt is tucked in your knickers!' I practice this and smilingly think of her every time I go out. Nice..........

Marpau when you were born I expect you were much cooed over and everyone told your mum you were beautiful so don't blame God as we are all sporting the 'lived in' look nowadays! grin
I have read about celebrities who don't smile or show any expression for fear of wrinkles but, my goodness, they do look miserable so .... bring on the look which says we have lived a full life and enjoyed it. smile

We really are all beautiful particularly to those who love us!

Passable in a flattering light.

I often look at photos and think “ I don’t really look like that” and of course it’s always a rare treat if I do look at a photo and am happy with the result ! Luckily these days we can edit our own photos on line, a very handy option !!

kittylester Tue 31-Oct-17 11:21:25

Please excuse the misplaced grin - my phone is running amok!

kittylester Tue 31-Oct-17 11:20:14

I think this was started as grina light hearted thread. We do have them sometimes! grin

I see a face with hardly a wrinkle. Not bad for 65. My hair is a big letdown. It's so thin that it ages me considerably.

Saggi Tue 31-Oct-17 11:12:58

Beautiful inside my body and head which means I AM beautiful. Have you folks not read Naomi Woolf’s ...’The Beauty Myth’...read it ...learn something and throw the mirrors away!! If that fails to convince you read Germaine Greer for goodness sake ...did feminism COMPLETELY pass you by. ???

A friend of mine was telling me about someone she knew the other day and she said 'she's attractive, slim and wears nice clothes, like you' . It was lovely of course but how I laughed inwardly. At age 11 I lost all my teeth. A few years ago I lost all my hair. I have dentures and a 'hair system'. I have contact lenses as I am as blind as a bat. I have struggled so much with the way I look and tried so hard and sometimes feel like giving up, but I can't bring myself to. Oh and DanniRae my DH said recently that he still sees me as the girl he met in 1967. Now he REALLY needs to go to Specsavers.

Years ago my Daughter asked my Mother "nanny why do you have tram lines on your face"I think she is too polite to ask me the same question, on the other hand there arent any tram lines any more!

I have wondered if I could apply to the tv programme botched when they ask who the original surgeon was can I say God?

My sister took a screen photo of me when we were chatting on Skype. I had my iPad on my knees. She has been warned if she ever shows that pic to anyone I'll strangle her! I'm not too bad looking up!! LOL

goldengirl Tue 31-Oct-17 10:39:19

I prefer mirrors to window reflections - mirrors tell the truth ie that I'm gorgeous grin.

DanniRae Tue 31-Oct-17 10:38:20

I can think I look ok when I am ready to go out - BUT if I later see a photo of myself I am horrified by how I really looked. I am 69 and a size 18 and don't wear any make-up why am I surprised that I don't look good?
However, my husband, who is not given to giving me compliments (and never has) has said on the odd occasion that, to him, I still look like the 19 year old that he first met. I know, I know he definitely should go to SpecSavers!!

vampirequeen Tue 31-Oct-17 10:36:19

When I was younger people used to tell me I looked like my dad rather than my mam. I think that was a 'nice' way of telling me I was plain grin

W11girl Tue 31-Oct-17 10:33:59

I'm far from glamorous, but seem to attract people. I think its my positivity which shows in the eyes! I also think the way a person dresses says a lot about them. Clothes do not maketh the man, but they do reflect personality which to me is more important than looking like a beauty queen.

Lindylo Tue 31-Oct-17 10:21:51

Never take a selfie! A quick glance in the mirror is OK but don't study your reflection - disaster!!

glammanana Tue 31-Oct-17 10:17:23

My long hair has always been my crowning glory over the years and my skin which is wrinkle free, but further down is evidence of the middle age spread which has crept on these past 2 years whilst I have been unwell but all in all not too bad when slowly creeping up to 70.Just don't look at my hands they have wrinkled a wee bit which I try to draw attention from with jazzy nail polish.

pollyperkins Tue 31-Oct-17 10:12:53

I hate photos of me- I always look much worse than I imagine when I am getting ready. Also the glimpses in shop windows etc. But people don't recoil in horror and my DH still seems to find me attractive so I suppose I'll have to put up with it !

annsixty Tue 31-Oct-17 10:12:32

ChristineF
I am also slim, in my 40's and rather good looking.
It's all these mirrors which are wrong.
The 80 year old crone creeps up behind me and looks in the mirror instead.?

floorflock Tue 31-Oct-17 10:07:24

I agree with pittcity, any photographs of 'me' simply aren't of ME, they are of someone else who could, in a bad light, pass of as a relative! But I find that the more wine I drink the prettier I become..... (ha ha)

EEJit Tue 31-Oct-17 10:07:23

Give over. You're all gorgeous in your own way.
