Ear-splitting sneezing!

My Dh has just done it yet again - he 'voices' his sneezes so that they come out as an almighty yell - and he just did it for the millionth time, right behind me and really made me jump.

I know it's a very minor moan in the great scheme of things, but WHY does he have to do it? I've told him it's just an attention-seeking habit - I'm just surprised that his parents, who were pretty strict, never jumped on it hard.

He once did it right by a very new and tiny dd and terrified her - he felt awful, she cried so hard - but even that didn't stop him.
OK, moan over - I feel better now!

I'd like to join too! Deafening. Have noticed though that it only happens at home. He seems able to be more restrained in public, so he obvs can help it, just chooses not to. With so many responses to this thread there must be a reason...

Yes, I need this group too. DH shouts AH CHOO as he sneezes. I jump out of my skin and complain that it’s not necessary. Makes no difference.

The worst is when I'm just on that lovely cusp of nodding off for the night. He just bellows all over the bedroom. Still love him though smile

This is a perfect group for me. My DH sneezes very loudly and at times - much to my Dgd's amusement - he seems to shout out "bless you". He 's not really trying to say it ,it just comes out that way. I never fail to jump, why oh why is he so loud.

Ok we have a support group. Let's have a virtual get together, I'll bring some fizz and chocs

Chewbacca Mon 27-Nov-17 20:06:38

I'll bring the ear defenders.

NannyTee Mon 27-Nov-17 20:48:52

Tissues on the ready

I'd like to be a member of this group too please! My DH could make sneezing an Olympic sport; it's not the volume as much as the sheer number of sneezes, just one sneeze after another, on and on and on, with no thought of trying to stop them. He says he can't help it. I bet if he was in church when an attack came on he'd be able to stop them tchgrin

A note to the newly formed group.
Tell them sneezes can be suppressed. If when you feel one coming on you suck the roof of your mouth as if you are sucking a sweet.
This works for me wink

I suggested it just now nina. The look I got would freeze the Sahara tchsad. Happy to bring chocolate cake to our first support meeting

Have to confess to being a noisy sneezer too. After a pierced eardrum and other ear problems, including affecting my balance, I can't risk putting pressure on my ears by sneezing down my nose. I desperately try to be quiet, and frantically press the area under my nose until it really hurts in an effort to stop it, but some still break through, followed by profuse apologies. I would never sneeze close to someone, but have been known to frighten our previous cats (current ones couldn't care less!)

Oh, I'm joining too. And I'd like to suggest a sub group to support people whose partners still use disgusting cloth handkerchiefs. And who need to fling their heads back to swallow a tiny Paracetamol....

grin Maggie

I have gradually 'lost' all the cloth handkies in our house.

I in. DH has a Karakatoa of a sneeze - I hit him if I'm nearby.
His most annoying noisy habit is reading the weekend papers - the rustling goes on forever - I don't make that noise with the paper what's that all about?

harrigran Tue 28-Nov-17 09:21:55

Mine, all of the above. I always jump when he sneezes, he asks why I am startled as he is the only other person in the house. It is the sudden loud noise and the ferocity of it that startles me.

Stansgran Tue 28-Nov-17 09:31:36

May I join in? And there is always a second sneeze which he says still doesn't give him time to get out a handkerchief. angry
Coughs and sneezes spread diseases
Trap your germs in your handkercheese

I'm glad it's not just my husband that does it...totally drives me mad...can I join the support group too please!

IngeJones Tue 28-Nov-17 10:14:03

My dad (who died long long ago) used to scream "HooRASHIOOOO" while my mum and I only made little "tsh" noises through our noses. I think it is definitely a gender-related affectation, rather than biological, otherwise all men would make the same loud noise not invent their own.

winterwhite Tue 28-Nov-17 10:18:23

We'll be hearing soon that it's because their brains are wired up differently.... Me to bring Vitamin C heavy oranges to the party.

Skynnylynny Tue 28-Nov-17 10:22:25

My neighbour sneezes so loudly I can hear it. Probably the whole street can hear him. Goodness knows how his wife feels about it.

SOF2016 Tue 28-Nov-17 10:23:21

I know how you feel!
For some reason my husband always feels the need to follow the sneeze with the words ‘God Almighty ‘! Loudly!

paperbackbutterfly Tue 28-Nov-17 10:44:37

I admit I'm a noisy sneezer. I can't help it and try to be quiet but that just makes it sound worse however my son has the loudest nose blow I've ever heard. Especially as he has bad hayfever so we can hear his Foghorn Leghorn impression all through the summer

Well, I'm a woman and I sneeze loudly too, if I'm at home. It's good to let the pressure out. I'd go so far as to say I enjoy it and often it's two or three consecutive sneezes. I own my house and it's detached so neighbours can't complain. If I'm out and about, I try to cover my face with my coat or jumper if I feel a sneeze coming on. That's only consideration for others. It's still noisy but muffled. It's a perfectly natural function and I'm not embarrassed. I'm pretty scathing about people (usually women) who suppress a sneeze in an antediluvian idea that audible sneezing isn't 'ladylike'. The back pressure can't be good for the nasal passages ? and the natural function of a sneeze is to expel a foreign body. So there! Ha! ? Ahhhh! Choo! ?

I have to admit I’m a noisy sneezer. Most morning I sneeze 6 times in a row especially If it’s a sunny day. I’m just weird
