I seem to be saying' to be honest' before very ordinary statements and as I am honest why am I saying this. I am working to eradicate this. Anyone else noticed an annoying habit/cliché in themselves that needs weaning
I hate "see you later" when your just leaving a shop from an assistant who you probably won't see again, also "Take Care" when they don't give a f---k .(alright from friends)
I find it very disconcerting when people ask me 'What are you up to today?' - usually asked by junior in the hairdressers or girl at the checkout in supermarket - The answer is usually not much, but not always appropriate to discuss what you're actually doing i.e. mammogram! Also the phrase reminds me of asking child with guilty face 'What have you been up to?'
I find myself saying 'Bye love' at the end of family phone conversations - hate it, it's 'so not me' (that's another one). Has anyone else got in the habit of counting how many times the weather forecaster on BBC says 'but'?
If I have any minor news or gossip to impart to OH I find myself starting the tale with "Guess what?" How I would hate to hang around waiting for him to guess. Not that he would!
Politicians who use the phrase "Let me say this..." Property show clichés - Light and airy. We want to keep alpacas. A big dine-in kitchen with an island. ( It's envy with the latter ) Property show euphamisms - Cosy for too small. Potential - for someone else. As for me - Not to worry - when clearly I should.
I don't say it unless it's true but I hate it when people in shops say see you later when you leave....there have been times when I expect half a dozen such folks to turn up later! It is meaningless.
All conversations prefaced by 'D'you know what?' - I suppose a variant of 'Guess what?' and an attention-seeking ploy. I don't think I've been guilty of this one!
I never implied it was a bad habit. Jalima Just that everyone in S Wales especially says it. And if Teetime had been there, that is where she may have picked up ' to be honest with you ' . ?
Incredible! I once heard a politician on the radio claiming that their party had some "incredible policies". I would have been more impressed if their policies had been credible.
