Just come back from the hospital where they ask you to strip down to bra and pants. I don't wear pants I wear knickers. Apart from the gentlemen here do you wear pants or knickers.smile

Knickers. Men wear pants

Maggiemaybe Tue 05-Dec-17 11:01:52

Knickers, always. Despite the fact that I often wore red shoes at work and used to be told "red shoes, no knickers"! Got that again when I bought a fur coat (fake, of course).

Haven’t called them knickers since I was a child.Always pants.Never panties though, sounds pervy.grin

MissAdventure Tue 05-Dec-17 11:06:28

I think women only say "panties" in mens imaginations.
Knickers for me.

Baggs Tue 05-Dec-17 11:06:44

Knickers. Men wear underpants.

Baggs Tue 05-Dec-17 11:07:21

Some men wear knickerbockers with underpants, would you believe, underneath.

Bathsheba Tue 05-Dec-17 11:09:12

Knickers. Pants are for men; panties are for pervs.

Good grief pants I finished with knickers when I left school In my head knickers are for old old old women who wear drawers with elastic in the legs Panties sounds twee

Fennel Tue 05-Dec-17 11:10:32

In France they're called 'slips' for some reason.
That's what I used to call a petticoat.

glammanana Tue 05-Dec-17 11:12:51

Knickers for me (French of course) tchgrin

Baggs Tue 05-Dec-17 11:17:49

Panties are for Americans. People wear panties (knickers) under pants (trousers). I think some Americans call all underpants underpants. Perhaps they freak out like gransnetters over the word panties as well.

aggie Tue 05-Dec-17 11:27:10

My lot ( badly brought up ! ) refer to Kacks hmm

MissAdventure Tue 05-Dec-17 11:28:57

Underpanties. Is that a word?

tanith Tue 05-Dec-17 11:56:28

Pants definitely for me my Mum and gran wore knickers.

Grandma70s Tue 05-Dec-17 11:57:58

It was always, always pants when I was young, but I date from before most people knew that Americans called trousers ‘pants’. That still sounds weird to me.

Knickers sounded quaint and old-fashioned. Also, it sometimes meant boys’ knickerbockers. I’m not old enough to remember when boys wore them, but the word was often used in books. Victorian and Edwardian, perhaps?

I’m not sure what I call them now. I don’t talk about them very often! I think I still say pants.

lemongrove Tue 05-Dec-17 12:01:31

M&S call them briefs.

lemongrove Tue 05-Dec-17 12:01:53

Mine are not quite as brief as they were!

midgey Tue 05-Dec-17 12:24:09

Ha Ha Lemongrove! Mine are more ‘harvest festivals’...all is safely gathered in!

CherryHatrick Tue 05-Dec-17 12:37:19

Knickers, also known as "keks".

Willow500 Tue 05-Dec-17 12:40:32

Lemongrove grin I joined that club a while back! I'm in the knicker brigade.

MillyNan Tue 05-Dec-17 12:41:37

Trousers used to be slacks and pants, worn by men, and the UNDERwear were called UNDERpants as they went under, surprisingly. Women wore drawers as you drew (pull not with a pencil) them on, my Nan was a drawers lady. The other type were knickerbockers originally Dutch, and then shortened to knickers. International language is a weird thing.
I’m in the knickers group.

lemongrove Tue 05-Dec-17 12:46:09

tchgrin We need a club then, The Harvesters......oh no, that sounds like the pub meals ( had too many of those, which is why I need larger pants/ knickers/ briefs.)

Alima Tue 05-Dec-17 12:49:08

Knicks or knickers. Blokes wear pants. Panties is the most cringeworthy word, sounds like it was invented by pervs.
