I have just tried to order some 'Corn Silk' face powder and almost collapsed at seeing it on Amazon for £101 !! (My last purchase, about a year ago, was around £6.00.) Further enquiries revealed that it has been discontinued, although lots of people were saying they loved it and had used it for years. I have heard from the counter assistants in Boots that it is a favourite of make up artists and anyone doing wedding make up, because it is just so good and stays flawless all day. WHY do manufacturers do this? I will be lost without it - I have half a box left now; perhaps someone would be kind enough to recommend a good loose powder that doesn't go cakey, stay put all day and will not change colour. Help, ladies - I am desperate.

HumptyThere’s a current thread on Ask a Gran called Retro Beauty Products Anyone?
Aqua Manda has several mentions.

Humptydumpty, I think you can still get Aqua Manda online

I have only once tried powder when very young and it made my skin feel tight and dry and transferred on to collars etc.
If I use make up now it's an all in one which I find more comfortable, but normally I just use a self tan.

Ages. Don't know what agesture is blush

I'm another Bare Minerals fan and agree that there's a knack to using it for the best effect. Having first purchased it in a large department store, I now get it off QVC, especially when it's on a special offer price. A small pot lasts agesture and gives good coverage.

I've used Corn Silk for years, have just finished my last purchase, had no idea it was going off the shelves.

I have just re-read the OP. I thought you were moaning that it cost £10, but now I see the problem!

lemongrove Fri 23-Feb-18 16:23:09

Thanks ican the price I gave was the Debenhams one.

icanhandthemback Fri 23-Feb-18 14:11:48

Lemongrove, I buy it through eBay for far less and it lasts an age.
Lilyflower, Do you have a link or the name of the article please?

lemongrove Fri 23-Feb-18 14:04:01

The Bare Minerals range is pricey though,£27 for the pot of loose powder.

Lilyflower Fri 23-Feb-18 13:25:59

There was an article in the 'Daily Mail' (I know!) yesterday about just this topic:- discontinued, beloved cosmetics and scents. They had some really good tips for how to overcome the loss and/or work round it.

HannahLoisLuke - that's good to know. I haven't tried the Mark finishing powder as I don't want a cakey look and powder can sit in your lines and wrinkles. Must get me some!

NannyTee Fri 23-Feb-18 12:29:35

I could do with one that covers Rosacea redness. I have olive to light tan skin . It's so hard to find .

icanhandthemback Fri 23-Feb-18 12:04:46

I use Bare Minerals Powder with the yellow colour correcting Primer. I had the same experience as you, Rosina, when the price of the Primer shot up. It appears that Bare Minerals have stopped producing the Primer and I am so upset. It is the first stuff I have ever worn that has done what I wanted it to.

Just looked on Avon website to order some more of the MagiX HD finishing powder and it appears to have changed its name to Mark. Setting powder at £5.50 on offer.

libra10 Fri 23-Feb-18 10:59:20

It's a little cheaper on Ebay, but still expensive.

Hope you find a supply.

grandtanteJE65 Fri 23-Feb-18 10:54:20

A powder made by a company that makes theatre makeup. Try a supplier for amateur theatricals if you have one near you.

Rosina Fri 23-Feb-18 10:32:08

Thanks keffie - that's a solution I hadn't though of! I'll certainly have a look at the link.

HannahLoisLuke Fri 23-Feb-18 10:27:28

I've been using Avon MagiX loose powder for a while now. It's white in the box but goes on to match your skin colour/foundation. Apply with a brush, stays fresh all day and costs around a tenner if you look for their offers.
Highly recommended.

I spent a long time looking for a perfume I loved - 'Fleurs Fraiches" - before I discoverd it had been discontinued sad sad

As I believe has been Aqua Manda, a firm favourite from student days (well, it was a long time ago I suppose...)

OurKid1 Thu 22-Feb-18 12:00:23

That happens with shampoos and other hair stuff too - drives me crackers!! I do occasionally find some for sale at more reasonable prices on eBay traders though.

Rosina Thu 22-Feb-18 11:58:36

Thanks for all of these recommendations - I bought a box of mineral powder and have tried it for the last couple of days. Someone said I 'looked well' - perhaps it's better than Corn Silk!

NannyTee Sun 18-Feb-18 20:42:45

I use the My Beautiful Earth. All natural for skin conditions and very good prices .
