Schools banning skirts.

Excuse me for not having time to read through all the posts on this thread, but can someone please enlighten me as to what SJW means?

Social Justice Warrior humptydumpty someone who posts on the internet without actually having real beliefs and taking action, but just argues.

It means "Social Justice Warrior" - usually applied to people who are presenting a liberal /progressive socialist argument. Its the politically correct argument.

Most kids use neither SJW nor ladette. However, many younger ( < 50) staff where I work do use the terms. I am over 50.

Since I post to social media such as this infrequently, I was not aware of the rules. Havent seen them up prominently either. I apologise. If you think reporting me ( and hence removing me so you don't have to be challenged) is a good move. Then do it. I am finished anyway.

Its a case of every teacher for themselves where discipline is concerned. Those of us who are "old school" as the pupils call us ( based on the fact we were at the school before the current management)
Don't your positions make you part of that management?

Reading through some of the argument about discipline brings to mind the (very recently watched) film Notes on a Scandal...

I m late coming to this thread and haven’t read all 10 pages so forgive me if I m overlapping or not intelligent enough in my answers but I do observe and I have both make and female children and grandchildren
I think it’s impossible to say all young boys are lechers and all young girls are pure, there is a huge mix of both , and most are somewhere in the middle trying to fit in without breaking any laws Yes my granddaughters wear skirts shorter for school than even our turned over ones were Modern day kids language is very different to ours and what we see as foul language is everyday normal to them
Lastly I have to say that my daughter has been shocked at texts and messages that my grandson has received from girls in his class ( he’s a popular lad ) explicit is one word shocking is another my daughter has had to give him very strict guidelines about how easily now it is for a boy to be blamed and to be very careful in how he answers these texts and behaves I think it can be very hard for boys and they usually get the blame

BlueBelle, I deplore limited vocabulary, and ungallant behaviour in either sex . Where are some kids getting their bad beliefs from? Why are some kids not sourcing good beliefs?

I believe that the cause of limited vocabulary and ungallant behaviour is that most kids don't read very much. And the current education system in British schools
fails to teach love of reading. Literature is according to government guidelines taught as dry and boring 'how to do it'. No wonder kids are put off and have recourse to social media instead of enjoying .Literature is fun and should be taught as fun.

Enjoying stories.

Teenage girls are sexually attractive to boys and to men simply because they are teenage girls. However they dress, covered up from head to foot, they will still be desired. It is just nature.

Teenage boys, particularly those that don't have sisters, will be unsettled by teenage girls, the teenage years are an unsettled time.

We are not doing the boys any favours by banning skirts from school. They will have to learn to cope with seeing skirts some time.

Alexa -enjoyment!!!! That's something modern education doesn't deal in. It doesn't help pass tests

My DGD1 (Y7) is enjoying school! She has a great time. She does turn her skirt over to shorten it..but not so short pants or bottom visible..though she often wears sports shorts under her skirt as they often play sports at break so is aware of not flashing her pants.I specifically asked why she wore shorts after reading this thread. She is a pretty good all rounder and has a mix of girls and boys as friends & from across the school. Just saying this to balance the view that school is not fun/ all young people are swarey and looking for sexual thrills!,I am sure she has her moments but as I see the students walk by my house as am in same road they seem no different to me and my pals in the 60s..except they have boys too!

PECS have you missed my point which was specifically about how kids don't get their moral sense from social media or interests vested in products, or from impersonal discussions of literature?

Literature i.e. stories is one channel to mature morality which is denied to kids whose only or main experience of stories is jumping through the hoops laid out for them by government tests.
