Following on from the ‘shove Granny off the bus’ theme. My Mum also taught my kids the song...’Maria, Maria, she peed on the fire’...and they taught it to some other kids who’s Mums were less than impressed. I also remember the ‘It was in Bagdad” song!

"Maybe we'll do in a squirrel or two while we're poisoning pigeons in the park" The mighty Tom Lehrer

Oh I love this thread!

Thanks yggdrasil I hadn't heard many of the verses before. It's a bit near the knuckle as they say. Sign of my misspent youth I'm afraid

Morning Sodapop; I'm back! smile
Now where was I before I was rudely interrupted by yet another Misandrist?
Oh yes! I was challenged about my knowledge of Google. When I retired 27 years ago I joined various computer clubs as a raw beginner and the term "Google" was just beginning to rase titters amongst audiences. Look at it now!
Having spent all 2½ years of my National Service in Egypt ( guarding the Suez Canal in Britain's interest! shock amongst other callow youths), we had plenty of time in the evenings belting out various verses in the NAAFI. Such that I can still recite the "Venus" theme backwards! grin
Our all male "Choir" could outperform the Russian Male Voice and those Welsh ones in the valleys! You could also understand the words!
My "white lie" in pretending not to know was to head off any chance of being asked to post them. I"m still old-fashioned enough to consider them too vulgar to repeat in mixed company. shock Hang on; my halo is slipping!
Apparently yggdrasil has no such inhibitions and good luck to her. grin
I can now hear the misandrists issuing their call to arms, so Ill duck down behind the barricades.!
Meanwhile I await their apology for misrepresenting me as a "dirty old man", but my breath is not baited! grin

Btw Maw; I've counted to 10, and even beyond! smile

I think the point of all that has been posted on this thread is that none of it is really explicit or crude. Most of it rest on double entendres and the reader/ listener knowing what is means rather than it actually being said.

And we shouldn't forget that greatest of escatalogical songs 'pee, poe, belly, bum, drawers' as written and sung by Flanders and Swan

Tweedle24 Tue 24-Jul-18 19:50:36

Blinks, that parachute song is an RAF favourite. It has many more verses.
Anyone in the services or spending time in the local rugby club knows most of those songs. My favourite was one about a threshing machine.

I am a lumberjack and Im.ok!

pollyperkins Tue 24-Jul-18 20:06:41

Apart from the ball at kirremuir. That was pretty explicit!

Strewth Monica; What the hell does that mean? grin
And have you dropped one of your "h"s? shock
You're giving my Google a really good workout i.e. "apocalyptic eschatology"; note the silent "h", or am I on the wrong tram?
I "did" uni., but not the monastery precursor "education", so damn, look what I've missed out on!
I'm interested in the study of words that look like their meaning, but I'm not very happy with "bowdlerised" that you were advocating recently; I much prefer "expurgated"! Conveys that sense of "purging." Poo is another example!
The bonus for 10 is that none of this is explicit or crude either! grin

Not to mention Flanders and Swan's famous song of seduction 'Have some madeira m'dear'.

But 'bowdlerised' has such an air of genteel respectable censorship while 'expurgated' has such a removing 4 letter words feel about it. And this thread is, generally all about innuendo.

All I did was post the link .
Nobody had to watch all the vid grin

Yggdrasil; Sorry; I misjudged you and your posting. sad
The one thing I can't resist is temptation, but it often turns out that curiosity killed the cat. So I'll have to resist watching your next posting for fear of being shocked again. shock
Cheers

Monica; You mean I can't call a spade a spade nor even a shovel.? So my earlier suggestions of adding "fart" and "belch" to the list of bodily functions up for debate, are not "innuendic" enough! Spitting is OK, though? confused

Depends on context. There is no explicit description of sexual acts, nor explicit desriptions of immediately preparatory actions. Nor is there the use of 4 letter words describing anatomical details and actions.

The words you used are generally considered vulgar, but not any worse.

Rufus2 Wed 25-Jul-18 14:23:31

Monica; I need a translation into good old-fashioned Anglo-Saxon! I've already received one accolade as "dirty old man" (which I still think deserves an apology, but there you go; "Sorry" can be a hard word to say) grin
Now I feel I'm being led into uncharted waters with all these big words, so before I put my foot, or feet, wrong and get smitten again, I'll put discretion before valour and depart the scene. Here endeth the lesson! sad
See Ya!

Och don't be so sensitive rufus! We're all dirty old Grans here.
Back to Tom Lehrer. Hilarious. Don't think he wrote any duds!

GrandmaMoira Thu 26-Jul-18 10:27:04

This thread is hilarious. I remember we used to sing these songs on coach trips whether with school, Girls Brigade, Sunday School or later with other teens/young adults. I don't remember the worm song though.
