Honey is not a new wonder treatment, it was being used in 1963 when I was working as a nurse. We used to have sterile gauze squares impregnated with the honey which we applied to the leg ulcer, often with very good results.

ps DD recommends adding cinnamon to it as well, apparently very good for coughs and colds

annodomini Fri 14-Sept-18 11:00:53

soop, now you're frightening me. Your chest infection sounds horrible. Don't bother about us - we will struggle on without your input if necessary. I hope MacS will glue you to that bed and get in touch with your GP because it doesn't sound as if it's getting any better. flowers and brew with a shot!

Dear Soop sending with love xxx

Synonymous Fri 14-Sept-18 11:32:31

So sorry that you had such a rotten night soop and you feel so poorly. Rest is essential and a regular hot toddy. Himself makes an amazing one which is legendary in our family. It has a huge %age of 'the water of life' so although it may not cure it you sleep lots and seem to recover quicker. wine

Interesting that you can/could get honey impregnated gauze harrigran I wonder if you can get that OTC or do you just put honey on some sterile gauze? My mind was running on ulcers as our gardener friend has had a recurrence of one which he last had 7 years ago and he has been in real misery with it so that could be helpful for him- certaimly don't want that for Himself.
Having read up about cellulitis I have started a different mixture for the mornings using lavender, frankincense, tea tree and oregano in the base cream and hopefully that will keep everything at bay. No wonder Himself was on such hefty doses of antibiotics when the metalwork in his leg was infected, doesn't bear thinking about!
Don't think I want to use the leg of lamb, by the way! grin

soop it sounds to me as though a GP visit is on the cards- such a pity it is a weekend. MacS will make sure you stay in bed- I only hope that he does not catch the buggeration that you have acquired.

So sorry your still having such a rotten time Soop. DH (who never used to get colds) has has a really bad one for nearly two weeks - awful cough being the worst of it now. He has various other health problems so something like this is always a worry. We’re busy doing nothing on holiday but he’s not improving that much. I do feel for you too Synonymous trying to find the right oils for DH - mine has problems with his feet and keeps trying new things instead of giving the old things a chance to work!! He won’t listen. He has peripheral neuropathy so I am busy knitting him all wool socks to wear in bed as he feels the cold so badly at night ...

Greyduster Fri 14-Sept-18 13:48:49

An infusion of fresh ginger is my go to, Soop - it supposedly has antibacterial properties - with honey and lemon added (whisky too if you like!). Drink it hot and often (perhaps not too often if there is whisky in it!! Oh, I don’t know though?). I sincerely hope that you shake it off soon.??

morethan2 Fri 14-Sept-18 15:36:57

Not the bearer of good news I’m afraid, my poor DiL cancer has spread to her brain. Starting radiation in the next few weeks, how much more can she take. My poor son is trying to stop crying because the three youngest are coming home from school. How awful is this sad

MawBroon Fri 14-Sept-18 15:41:07

I am so very very sorry morethan
No words can express the sympathy and sadness I feel for you all.
Keep strong- they will need you xx

kittylester Fri 14-Sept-18 15:44:57

Oh dear, soop, please take care of yourself. We need you well as you are the heart of our kitchen.

Just back from lunch with DD1 and DD3 which was lovely. We missed DD2 who lives slightly too far away. We didn't miss their brothers - a girly lunch is great. But I came home to the news that a friend's husband has died of prostate cancer. My friend has Alzheimer's and I am wondering what will happen to her now.

Marydoll Fri 14-Sept-18 15:50:03

morethan, I only usually lurk in the kitchen, but had to say how sad I am for you all. I too have no words to console you.

Eilyann70 Fri 14-Sept-18 15:59:26

morethan So so sorry to hear your news. Thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Greyduster Fri 14-Sept-18 16:17:23

Morethan I can’t tell you how sorry I am to hear that. She seemed to be doing so much better. You will all be in my thoughts.?
And kitty how awful for you too! I am coming increasingly to realise what an awful situation your friend is in. I’m sure you will do all you can to help.?

NanKate Fri 14-Sept-18 16:43:50

Morethan life is just not fair. How desperately sad. Nothing I can say will make things better other than you have a whole host of lovely people herenon GN who will offer virtual love and support. ??

NanKate Fri 14-Sept-18 16:45:23

Another sad story Kitty. We all need to count our blessings. Virtual hug coming your way.

Charleygirl Fri 14-Sept-18 16:53:26

Morethan that is just awful- your poor son and the children because life has to go on for them. Do you live close by?

kittylester Fri 14-Sept-18 16:59:53

Moreton, I'm sorry, I've only just seen your post. I must have been really slow posting.

What sad news for your whole family. You must all be in shock. We are here if you need to offload but I wish there was something practical we could do. Keep strong!

callgirl1 Fri 14-Sept-18 17:16:42

So very sorry to read your news Morethan, as someone said, life just isn`t fair.
Kitty, I hope something good can be sorted for your friend.
And Soop, please, please carry on taking good care of yourself, you are very much prized.

kittylester Fri 14-Sept-18 17:27:03

And I do know your name isn't Moreton, morethan, but my blessed phone, as always, thinks it knows best!!

NfkDumpling Fri 14-Sept-18 17:30:26

I’m another occasional lurker who’s about to post for the second time in a week. Just have to add my support and sympathy for Morethan. Bloody awful news. And Kitty too. Is it the time of year? So much bad news lately.

cornergran Fri 14-Sept-18 17:31:32

Oh dear, a sad kitchen today,

I’m so sorry morethan, there aren’t words really. Sending love to you all, it’s surely not fair.

Goodness, kitty, another worry for you. I’m not sure how unwell your friend is but the future without her husband must be a scary one.

Keep resting soop, hope that cough lets go of you soon, you must be exhausted.

Also sending good wishes to synonmous and Mr S, you must both be worried.

Apologies to any poorly people I have missed, in my usual rush. Sending hugs to all, take care of yourselves.

Synonymous Fri 14-Sept-18 17:58:25

morethan so very sorry. flowers

Oh dear, a group hug would seem to be the order of the day. Get well everyone and a restful night to all. X
