I think we have an infiltration of ‘jokers’ on the threads at the moment Well of course it may be the same person with a variety of names but I have noticed four (at least) new names who are ‘ having fun’ with us
I presume reporting them and letting Gransnet sort them out is the only way forward
Has anyone else noticed ?
We need a sin bin

Bradfordlass I think this has gone into the wrong thread

ttgran I do hope the diagnosis is a good one, please come back and let us know. Experienced GPs can often feel when a lump is just a cyst but will send you to a specialist to be sure. All the best.

My wonderful elder son, formerly the best and most supportive of boys, hasn't spoken to me or his brother for 15 years.
His partner at the time very much resented how close we all were and told him a tissue of lies about things I'd supposedly said.
I was sure he knew me well enough to know it was untrue and I still think he probably did, but I guess he was given an ultimatum - and he chose her. I don't blame him for a moment but it hit me hard.

Ironically, they broke up 6 years later and I hoped then he might get in touch but no.
Again, when I was 70 I had hopes. No.
He knows, because I told him, that I shall always love him and the door is always open.
Now I think his stubborn pride won't let him back down.

So you're by no means alone having a cranky kid - there's a lot of it about smile

Nope.
Everything is peaceful.
Isn't that nice? smile

holdingontometeeth Mon 14-Jan-19 11:15:53

Hi everyone. Have we any updates that one should be aware of?

Bathsheba Thu 03-Jan-19 16:10:18

Oh I missed that one too. Must be more vigilant grin

GrannyGravy13 Thu 03-Jan-19 15:50:48

Jalima you did not miss much!!!

Jalima1108 Thu 03-Jan-19 15:47:58

There's another one I missed GrannyGravy!

Jalima1108 Thu 03-Jan-19 15:47:23

better to say nothing and report if it's a particularly obnoxious post.
You're right Farmor - however, some particularly obnoxious posts seem to remain.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 03-Jan-19 15:45:36

I think GNHQ has taken down another suspect thread, the one about a drug smoking out of control GS seems to have dissapeared?

Jalima1108 Thu 03-Jan-19 15:41:41

Yes, I've just joined the 50 books thread - I must admit I didn't join in earlier because I thought I would not manage 50 books a year!!

seacliff Thu 03-Jan-19 15:26:08

Just what I said Farmer - they love the attention, let's deprive them of it!

Farmor15 Thu 03-Jan-19 15:01:35

I think anyone who has been on Gransnet for a while recognises the names of some posters who tend to make unhelpful comments and knows to ignore them. Even responding with something like "that was a rude comment" gives them too much attention and tends to provoke an argument so better to say nothing and report if it's a particularly obnoxious post.

Bathsheba Thu 03-Jan-19 14:49:42

Terribull I too was taken aback by that comment on your book thread. I think your description of the poster was spot on - 'sour'. Yep, that just about sums up most of her posts. She posted a couple of hours ago on the thread about reducing sugar intake. Another one of her singularly unhelpful comments hmm.

Anniebach Thu 03-Jan-19 14:38:34

Someone was eager to inform granddad1943 his name had been mentioned, the old wooden spoon being waved again.

TerriBull Thu 03-Jan-19 14:22:40

Thank you Jane I've been posting on the MN "50" book thread for a couple of years now, I really like to know what others are reading and some of my best ever reads have come from that source. I have been thinking for some time we really should have this thread on GN. I'm glad others are of the same opinion.

janeainsworth Thu 03-Jan-19 14:04:47

Terribull the poster who made that comment never puts anything nice if she can think of anything unpleasant to say.

On the bright side, I had been ignoring your thread because I assumed it was a GN competitionshockblush

So thank you for drawing my attention to it. It’s a great idea.

BlueBelle Thu 03-Jan-19 14:00:10

Well I wasn’t involved and don’t know what was said I either didn’t read it or have forgotten already but you are milking this Grandad you seem to be mentioning it at every opportunity
How can the name Grandad link to your wife ?

Elegran Thu 03-Jan-19 13:39:38

Posters are often referred to on threads where they have not posted, without any ulterior motive. As always, each case has to be looked at on its own merits, and consideration given to whether the mention was malicious, before condemning it. The wellknown forum members may not have been "involved in that" as an exercise in abuse (and if it was the posts I think it was, at last one of them was perfectly innocent!)

Grandad1943 Thu 03-Jan-19 12:46:57

In regard to forum members posting on threads that they have no interest in, then that can also work in reverse.

It was only a few days back that my name (and by association the name of my wife) was brought into a thread that I had not even contributed too. I have information that a least three well-known forum members were involved in that.

Therefore, obviously, there are those on this forum that very much need to look to themselves as to why attitudes and have changed, and why others come on to this forum to do nothing else but take the p*ss

Back to work today, so will be unable to respond again until much later today.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 03-Jan-19 11:06:29

I often browse threads that I am not particularly interested in, I might learn something.

I would not put a negative comment down “just for the sake of it”.

In fact I try extremely hard not to put negative comments on any thread.

seacliff Thu 03-Jan-19 11:04:00

I sometimes open a thread to find out what it's about, and immediately think, no this really is not for me. So I leave without comment.

Obviously it's good to have debate and differences of opinion, makes things interesting. But leaving just one snide disparaging remark, why would you? Some people on GN (especially quite recently) seem to delight in being rude/unkind and creating discord. I suppose they must get some kicks from it. Makes me think they must be pretty unhappy people.

I hadn't seen the comment on the Book thread, but I feel the best treatment is to totally ignore their comment and continue with your conversation. Much better than wasting time and energy on them.

Anniebach Thu 03-Jan-19 11:01:22

It’s kinder thank ‘get a life ‘ , or perhaps not ? But I didn’t cook turkey at Christmas so why go on a thread about cooking turkeys just to say ‘l’m not cooking turkey, why do these things! It’s deflating . People like cooking, reading books, one plonker here enjoyed reading the prophecies of Nostradamus. Now that is sad. But it was fun. 😀

Mapleleaf Thu 03-Jan-19 10:50:45

🤣🤣 Annie.

TerriBull Thu 03-Jan-19 10:42:56

Annie grin you are awful!

Anniebach Thu 03-Jan-19 10:26:41

Suppose I could read threads on cooking and post ‘ go to a take away ‘ 😀
