I love AO but......

I reckon that if I had taken out extended warranties on all the white goods I have bought over the last 60 years it would amount to well over £5,000. This sum alone is probably more than I have paid to buy all the white goods I have ever owned.

Next time you are tempted to take a warranty out, look at the cost and then put that sum in a building society account or similar and, if you do have a breakdown, there should be enough in the account, not only to repair the appliance, but, probably, replace it if necessary.

I think you can take out warranties later on, if you wish, through certain companies.

My washing machine went kaput over Christmas (with ten people including three GC in the house!) but John Lewis had a better deal than AO.

The machine was cheaper, the extras, such as fitting and removal of old machine were cheaper, and most important it could be delivered sooner. AO couldn't deliver until 5th January.

Thanks Anniebach never heard of them either

I was a bit confused when I bought a new fridge freezer just before christmas which came with a 5 year warranty and they tried to persuade me to purchase an extended warranty. They confirmed I would start paying immediately but what would I be paying for? Apparently covering everything that? I confess I'm none the wiser because I declined.
My son lets his flat out and I took out warranties on all his appliances and luckily when his washing machine stopped working last year, it was five years old and replaced with the new updated model for free. I'd only taken out the warranty 2 years ago so he was very happy.

I have bought a number of appliances from AO and like others here, I can't fault the prices or service.
However, offering an extended warranty on an item which is brand new is ridiculous, so I decline.

I have always bought from our local shop, tv, white goods, they know the houses in town so well, can just asked ‘is it right for my kitchen ‘ and it’ yes or no.

They are quite competitive Annie on price and very quick on delivery .

I like them ( apart from their ridiculous extended warranty offers lol )

Sorry but who is AO?

When I replaced white goods 15 months ago, AO did mention the warranty and I said no thanks. There was absolutely no mention of delivery damage (which I put down to a stupid mistake by the call assistant). I found th e young man I dealt with very well informed and helpful.
Between placing the order and the delivery date, there was a price drop and, as advised, I contacted them and was immediately credited with £20.
At the end of the year I had a call to point out that the warranty was about to expire and I declined again.

I agree about their excellent delivery and tracking system, have had no problems with the goods (touch wood) and have recommended AO to friends and family.

My washing machine from John Lewis suffered a very small dent in transit. I didn't notice it, but the delivery men did and pointed it out. They said they could either take it back and re-deliver an undamaged one, or they could arrange for a discount on the dented one. Given that the dent was only the size of a 1p coin and was on the side panel which wouldn't be visible when in situ, I went for the discount!
Now that is good service - and no extended warranty nonsense required!

You're right to not be interested in extended warranties NanandGrampy. Money Saving expert has quite a bit of information here:

And as for them damaging an item whilst delivering it to you..... grin 10/10 for their cheek!

I love how efficient they are , that they offer delivery information so you're not tied to the house for 12 hours waiting but they do one thing ( in common with a lot of other white goods sellers) that drives me nuts !!!

They rang me last night to confirm todays delivery and tried to sell me extended warranty.

All well and good so far but WHY do I have to start paying for that extended warranty during the year I have a manufacturers warranty????

I'm covered, I need nothing else until that year or 2 year warranty is up by which time , judging on last nights discussion I would have paid £100 for absolutely nothing.

Am I missing something here or is this just another way of extracting money from the customer?

I did chuckle when she mentioned it would cover me for any damage whilst they were delivering etc - I pointed out if it got damaged they would simply take it straight back and deliver me an undamaged one... seems like she hadn't thought of that!!
