I'm watching 'The greatest dancer', and its inspired me to ask if anyone dances?
Clubs? Ballroom? Do you enjoy moving to music?
I'm too self conscious to dance, and I feel its such a shame as I love music.

Pretty much all day, every day!

Rufus2 Sun 13-Jan-19 03:33:10

And I know someone who is now tripping over the rock in "rock -and-roll" at 90+. sad

Rufus2 Sun 13-Jan-19 03:44:00

She said it did wonders for their sex life, all that being flung around. smile
MisAdventure; Was that whilst they were at the Club, or presumably when they got home? grin

The only kind of dancing I have ever enjoyed is ballet, which I did until I was about 15. I loved the music (still do) and the beauty of it. I still love watching it, though any attempts to do it now would be farcical.

I might have enjoyed country dancing, but never had the opportunity to do any. I was watching Back in Time for School (BBC TV) the other day, and when country dancing was suggested the children all laughed. Frankly I think it would have done them good. I frequently notice how lacking in grace children and teenagers are these days. Dancing at school instead of (or, if you must, as well as) competitive sport just might help.

Social dancing has always seemed a bit silly to me, and I have largely avoided it. I dislike ballroom dancing. What passes for dancing now - wriggling - leaves me speechless, almost! It’s so ugly.

Never if anyone can see me!!

TwiceAsNice Sun 13-Jan-19 08:23:56

Dance to music at home when I'm by myself but not when anyone can see me too uncoordinated . I admire professional dances very much would so like to be good at it. Never done any formal classes

NannyJan53 Sun 13-Jan-19 08:55:47

I love a good boogie! smile

Often have a little dance in the kitchen when a good tune comes on the radio

Sarahmob Sun 13-Jan-19 08:57:07

I used to do country dancing at school and loved it, can still remember them now! I’d love to go out to dance but my DH has two left feet and is very reluctant, so it’s at home with the curtains closed for me. grin

I've been linedancing for many years, which has given me a great social life, and kept me fit. Yee ha!!

JoyBloggs Sun 13-Jan-19 09:42:48

I went to an all girls boarding school and after evening prep, we would do Scottish country dancing. There was a heap of Jimmy Shand records, 78rpm's so you had to take turns to keep winding the old gramophone! I can still dance an eightsome reel, Duke of Perth and strip the willow.

Juggernaut Sun 13-Jan-19 10:20:30

Usually only in the kitchen, give the neighbours a treat!
I bop about a bit at 'Diddidance', where I take DGS (aged 2) weekly!
I'm a bonny lass, DM used to say that when I danced, a lot of me had fun.

I know a lady of 87 who goes to the same hotel every year and loves dancing. The only thing she doesn't like are partners who will hold her too close. She calls them erection boosters. (Sorry, her words, not mine).

Grannyanna12345 Sun 13-Jan-19 10:55:08

YES YES YES!! I’ve danced all my life; ballet, tap, ballroom, Latin American, jazz, contemporary, dipped into other exciting forms such as classical Indian and hip-hop. I trained to lead community dance in my 40s, performed with many different groups in lots of different places, and have been learning Flamenco for 4 years. My oldest ‘student’ was 94, she had danced all her life too and although the rest of her body no longer did what she wanted, she had the most incredible hands and wrists that could still express Indian or Flamenco dance. I intend to dance until I die!

Not ballroom etc but I dance whenever and wherever I can ! Not so much opportunity as you get older but I always do it at home, especially when my granddaughters are watching Dirty Dancing, Mamma Mia etc I have to join in !! I often do the side shuffle when I enter a room ( like Hugh Grant in Love Actually) ? that always gets the GC howling !

tiggers Sun 13-Jan-19 11:00:36

We love dancing - Ballroom, Latin, Sequence, Jive. In fact we met at a disco. We still love listening to (and dancing to) Tamla Motown music too.

Cannot wait to get back on the dance floor but have had to be patient since my hip replacement, otherwise my consultant would have palpitations!!

Izabella Sun 13-Jan-19 11:04:34

I hate it and always have. I do however enjoy watching skilled dancers at the theatre, ballet etc.

HurdyGurdy Sun 13-Jan-19 11:10:54

Not since meeting my husband 35 years ago. sad

I used to love dancing. I was no good at it, but I could do a bit of a jiggle in time to the music. My husband just won't. He had to be forced into our first dance at our wedding, my his best man's girlfriend, and he's never danced since then.

I absolutely love Strictly, and would really like to have a go at it, but no way would I ever be able to persuade my husband to even try it.

Craftycat Sun 13-Jan-19 11:12:27

I dance! Whenever I get the chance & very often round the kitchen. I dance with my GC- Uptown FunK is still their favourite ( & mine).
I love dance - all sorts. I go to a Modern Line Dancing class every week too- no country music- all chart hits & I love it.
I did Ballet, Tap, Modern & Latin (& Scottish country- my Gran insisted) when I was a child but was never going to be great. I have danced at every possible opportunity all my life & I intend to carry on until I can't get out of my chair.
It does you so much good & lifts the spirits.
Oh now I need to put on a bit of MJ & do a bit of Smooth Criminal!!( can't do the leaning bits though- he had magnetised shoes for that)

Go on, have a go - I’m 68 and one of the highlights of my week is the local U3A line dancing session! It’s not all country and western - in fact hardly any of that. We use a really eclectic mix of music and you can put in as much or as little effort as you like. No partner needed - lots of new friends made and we all have such a laugh (everyone gets it wrong at some point - but no one worries - laughter and support come hand in hand!) .
I’ve also had a go at Scottish dancing and tap dancing through the U3A but enjoy line dancing best. Have a look what’s on offer in your local area; I’m sure you’ll be glad you did!

blossom14 Sun 13-Jan-19 11:24:01

Another one here going to Modern Line Dancing twice a week. I sometimes think anyone watching us would find it quite amusing. It takes me a bit longer to learn new dances now. Some of them are very directional, which is a challenge

Buffybee Sun 13-Jan-19 11:24:30

I love a "Boogie" and often have a dance if a good tune comes on the radio.
Especially Soul music, like Junior Walker, Sam & Dave and James Brown.
Takes me back to the "all nighters" at the Twisted Wheel in Manchester.

Growing0ldDisgracefully Sun 13-Jan-19 11:27:15

No formal dancing for me but bopping round the kitchen and when I do the occasional bit of housework. Rude sniggering from my son usually curbs my enthusiasm, to say nothing of his comments when he came in to me 'festival dancing' in front of the TV to highlights from Glastonbury....
Like Juggernaut, all of me joins in....

mabon1 Sun 13-Jan-19 11:30:05

Never have, never will. The programme The Greatest Dancer is in my humble opinion dreadful, I watched it last week and vowed never to watch it again.
