This was a passing thought I mentioned on another thread but it has stayed with me.
Well off people are given tax breaks by the present government. Of course some of them will be giving to charity (especially if it can be claimed against tax) others are not.
The Conservative MPs pictured visiting food banks and donating stuff like tins of beans a few weeks ago are on salaries that most of us can only dream of.
So who keeps food banks going? Answer, the rest of us who don't actually need to go to one at the moment. The people who don't/can't employ lawyers to help them (legally) squirm out of paying tax.
Because we can't bear to think of kids going to bed hungry like some of us did in the forties and fifties we have this extra drain our income.
I won't stop giving to food banks but I do
resent it.
