“Cleans a big big carpet
For less than half a crown!” ?

Why is it some adverts stick in our minds over so many years? I can even hear the tune!

Any more ‘old ‘uns’ that we can still remember?

?Birdseye peas, sweet as the moment when the pod went pop!?

Anyone remember this one? Set on a snowy mountain, or someone skiing.
(Goes something like)
Give me Mint Cracknell and I don’t care ?
Give me Mint Cracknell and I don’t care ?
Give me Mint Cracknell and I don’t care ?
It’ll chase the blues away. ?

Not sure if it’s been mentioned but...

Only the crumbliest flakiest chocolate, tastes like chocolate never tasted before (then the young woman sucks the flake in a very seductive kind of way).

Can anyone remember “Big one....sticks out a mile”

Or (a western theme set) “you wouldn’t kill a man before he’s finished his Texan bar now would ya?”

Or “I’d rather have a bowl of cocoa pops”

Not the tune, but I do remember Mint Cracknell
Yummy!

I remember Jeremy The Sugar Puff Bear. Wouldn't be allowed these days!

Hannemann (?) cigarillos. The ad with a naked girl in a waterfall only came after the watershed and I remember watching TV with my boyfriend of the time and his younger brother used to hang around waiting for that ad. I rather liked it, especially as my bf was a terrible prude - his little brother and I used to have a giggle. Can't remember the music, although it was something like the air on a g string I think.

Totally out of the question these days - for advertising cigarettes and for the nude lady.

Thinking about the rissoles thread, I remembered, "savoury Birds Eye rissoles, they're made country style".

I'd love a babycham

Also the Hovis advert ...very nostalgic with the young boy pushing his bike up the village street ...think it was Helmsley ...with a basket full of bread to deliver.

All these tunes now bouncing around in my head but nobody's mentioned:

I'm going well.
I'm going Shell.
I'm going well on Shell Shell Shell.
Keep going well.
Keep going Shell.
You can be sure of Shell!!

I think Perry Como recorded it on a concert tour of Britain as my friend had been to see him and got his autograph. I loved the scenery especially Loch Ness as I had been there not long before, though I'm not sure if he actually went to all the places!

I havent read all the posts, so apologies if I’m repeating someone else, but I remember the Heineken advert, where the little boy puts his finger in the dyke to stop it flooding.
The caption for these ads was always “Heineken - probably the best lager in the world.”
They were always very witty.
Again, apologies if someone has already posted this ! ?

I’ve thought of another:
“Topic - there’s a hazelnut in every bite”.

I went to museum where they exhibited domestic equipment through the years. They were also playing all the jingles from old adverts as background music. It was fascinating but I can't remember where it was.

Although I don't remember this from TV, a friend alerted me to the John Smith's (beer) adverts with Peter Kay whom I think is the funniest man in the world.

Whenever I feel a bit down I go to his 'Misheard Lyrics' skit on YouTube and it never fails to make me laugh.

Here's his beer advert for JS.

Made to make your mouth water
Fresh with the tang of citrus
Four refreshing fruit flavours

Opal Fruits..do they still make them? Chewy and gooey.

Larissa67 Tue 26-Mar-19 10:08:48

Those insidious earworms still remembered after all those years. years
Adverts today seem to try to look like film clips. I loved the dramatic Guinness ads but can't stand the product. Anyone else love the ad but would never buy the product?

Miep1 Tue 26-Mar-19 11:28:18

Domestic kills 99% of all known germs - dead (written by father)
You can't tell the difference between Stork and butter (another blatant lie written by my father) and the Sunsilk shampoo ad with the girl sort of wafting along (father broke leg demonstrating). I also grew up to work in advertising, but I'm keeping my secrets!

SparklyGrandma Tue 26-Mar-19 11:30:19

Only the crumbliest, flakiest chocolate..

? Blue blue blue blue blue blue blue blue Esso Blue,
Esso Esso Esso blue blue blue........ ?
? Squash it and it just springs back
Wash it and the colour stays fast
Give it the treatment, the family treatment
Enkalon is built to last for years and years and years and years and
This is luxury you can afford by Cyril Lord ?
Oh reading through these has sent my jingles memory going. I’ll be singing them all day!! ?
