Looking back over this thread, I realise that my comment that I would try to keep my emissions as quiet as possible (27 March at 22.17) was perhaps a little too sweeping.

I feel sorry for men these days - everything which used to be considered polite and good manners is now classed as "oppressive" - open a door for a woman - oppression, give up a seat for a woman - oppression, offer to help carry something - oppression.
