Which comedian? (Lighthearted!)

Having heard that Ukraine has elected a comedian as president I wondered who I'd vote for if we had to elect one.
Josh Widdecombe would cheer us all up. David Mitchell might be too intellectual and cynical. James Acaster too off the wall.
Possibly Rob Brydon? I'm not sure.
Not interested in responses commenting on current politics please.
Who would you suggest?

I`m another suggesting Michael Palin, I think he`d be a calming influence in a restless world.

the man from bake off in a bright shirt.

tinaf1 Mon 22-Apr-19 19:06:23

Would have gone for Victoria Wood unfortunately no longer with us, so perhaps Sara Millichan or Dawn French

Iam64 Mon 22-Apr-19 19:10:18

tinafl - don't let Victoria Wood. no longer being with us in Real Life stop you, Yes to Victoria Wood. A talented, compassionate, sensible, amusing northern lass who could also play the piano and entertain us at all times. What's not to like!

Alima Mon 22-Apr-19 19:10:32

Ha, ha, DanniRae, so he is. Didn’t realise you were after live ones!

Grannyrebel27 Mon 22-Apr-19 19:30:45

Lee Mack - extremely quick witted so obviously very clever. I find him hilarious on "Would I lie to You".

Bellanonna Mon 22-Apr-19 19:34:13

Was just about to say Lee Mack but you got there first Grannyrebel. Incredibly quick retorts and really funny.

Jane10 Mon 22-Apr-19 19:45:33

I was just hoping that no one would say Lee Mack. He's always got to take over and make things all about him!
I'd second Sandi Toksvig though and if only Victoria Wood was still with us. sad

Callistemon Mon 22-Apr-19 19:45:44

Yes, Lee Mack - at least if his policies were rubbish we could enjoy his quick retorts at QT!

Bob Mortimer. You can never tell if he is telling the truth and he makes me laugh.

GrannyMosh Mon 22-Apr-19 20:13:41

Jo Brand. Very kind and compassionate, has done a 'proper job' at the sharp end of mental health nursing. Intelligent and witty. Or Jennifer Saunders. Either one would be excellent.

Jane10 Mon 22-Apr-19 20:41:05

Bob Mortimer is hilarious!

Ricky Gervais. He's passionate about animals and climate change, as well as being insightful and funny (well I like him, anyway)

BradfordLass72 Tue 23-Apr-19 21:55:53

Peter Kay definitely - I don't say he would make a brilliant job of running the country (but then neither do the current lot) but at least he'd make us laugh about the political disasters.

When I'm feeling down, I go to YouTube and watch his "Mis-heard Lyrics'"sketch and it always cheers me up.

I wish I knew why he cancelled his tour, it must have been something very serious but as far as I know, the family secret has been kept.

Jane10 Tue 23-Apr-19 22:04:08

Lovely Peter Kay!

jenpax Tue 23-Apr-19 22:07:43

I would have voted for Jeremy Hardy however he sadly died this year

TwiceAsNice Tue 23-Apr-19 22:30:36

Billy Connolly for me I love him

Grandma2213 Wed 24-Apr-19 01:36:18

Billy Connolly for me .. says it how it is and is so passionate about the world and what is going on in it. He seems to get on well with so many different kinds of people. I just wish there was a miracle cure for his illness.

Alternatively John Bishop and Eddie Izzard have stepped up to the mark and suffered physically for their charities so can be trusted to fight for what they believe in.

Mrs Brown - another one here who doesn't get it. NOT funny.

Henning Wehn? He would keep us in Europe! My husband was crying with laughter when we saw him live grin

If she wasn't dead – and much missed – I would have nominated Victoria Wood.

Anja Wed 24-Apr-19 07:04:40

Looks like a full cabinet already

Nanniejc1 Wed 24-Apr-19 10:20:33

Definitely Bradley Walsh or Peter Kay.

anitamp1 Wed 24-Apr-19 10:21:54

Think we already have a bunch of them running the country.

Sparklefizz Wed 24-Apr-19 10:27:15

Frank Skinner as he would put all the rest in Room 101 !
