My neighbours from next door flew to Crete yesterday afternoon, pleased to escape our weather.
I have just heard the island was rocked by an earthquake this morning.

So sorry * Charleygirl*, I think I might have confused matters. I only posted to Panache to support your point that it might take 'brute force' to get any prescribed stockings on.

When DH and I tried at first to get his stockings on it was a sight to behold, we didn't know if we should laugh or cry ! X ??

Evening All. Quick visit as there is ironing with my name on it. Lucky me .

Had a more than bracing walk on the sea front, it was blowing a gale. Bright sunshine, we’re so lucky, but so windy the poor holidaymakers were being sand blasted.

Good luck with those stockings panache if they are thought to be a good thing for Mr P. The short time I needed to wear them will never be forgotten. Just couldn’t get the hang of them.

Panache, I am so glad that you are settling into your new home. I totally appreciate your frustration that no one seemed concerned about your dear man’s foot and leg problems. I understand the need for specialist care, but unfortunately this seems to mean that no one looks at the whole person. At the moment my DHs ‘label’ is motor neurone disease. It’s hard to get anyone to see that his shoulder and back problems are causing far more pain than the disease and in particular that his back is affecting his walking and making falls more likely.

I don’t post often but I pop into the kitchen everyday to catch up. DH is keeping active and this afternoon made a strange concoction. His excuse is that he needs to keep his calorie count up so doesn’t lose weight. (How unfair is that!) He’s made spotted dick with added blueberries from the garden. I won’t offer to share until he’s tasted it!

I had to pop back with an update of my dinner.......Fishfingers and spaghetti hoops in the kitchen whilst trying to placate youngest AC who has had a "disagreement" with sibling.

Whilst I know it will be resolved and they would do anything for each other, I cannot help but worry.

Have poured a very large glass of wine, opened French doors and lit some candles.........and breath.

Carillion no problem- the stockings I was given were totally different from the post-surgical hospital stockings which certainly did not cost over £100.

I am not sure if the men in white coats will be coming for me before or after I burn down my house. I left the oven on for over 2 and a half hours plus its contents which were part of my supper but I totally forgot! The kitchen is roasting hot with an odd smell from the oven but being Scottish all I could think about was the money wasted!

Anneliese that is so typical, your poor DH lumbered with one label which to many means there cannot possibly be anything else wrong with him.

I would book a double appointment with his GP and go with him to explain the problems especially if he is likely to fall. The GP just may waken up a bit.

I think I may be safer if I retire to bed after a shower.

Charleygirl to be fair our GP has been very helpful but the hospital consultants seem to be unwilling to treat DH because of the MND. At least our community physio is following things up! Sorry about your supper! Hope you got something to eat!

Anneliese, it's such a shame that nobody will take your OH's aches and pains seriously. There is nothing they can do to his muscles and/or joints that would have an effect on his MND for better or worse. It's brilliant that he is able to be active enough to cook for you. How was the spotted dick?

I love spotted dick ( only the rude word was replaced with dog by my mother!). Any left overs gratefully received ?.
I have just had a 10 minute workout with a kilo of wholemeal sourdough - who needs the gym? ( or kneads it? ??)
Now back in bed with my coffee but it won’t be for long. Off to Shropshire today to visit my older brother in hospital. He had a replacement hip in December which then got infected and had to be removed in May. It has now been replaced but he has had a long and painful wait. Fingers crossed it stays healthy this time.

I had a very sad message from Morethan this morning. She asked me to pass on her apologies (I’m sure we will all absolutely agree that none are needed) for her absence from the kitchen. Her lovely daughter in law has had the worse possible news with regard to her illness and they must now prepare the children for what is to come. I am devastated beyond words for her, as I am sure we all will be, and that we will send all our strength and prayers.

So very sad.
They have struggled on for so long, so bravely that if prayers will help in these last days I will pray as hard as I can for them all.
My love, through the air, goes to them all.

Greyduster thank you for passing the message about Morethanon. I am sure all our thoughts are with her and her DS's family. It is a very sad time.

That is such sad news from morethan, they have been through so much. My heart goes out to them all, especially the children.

Sad news to wake up to from Morethan . They have been fighting such a battle . I am so very, very sad for them . Thanks Grey .

I cannot imagine what mischief you lot thought Grey and I might have got up to yesterday ????- we were too busy talking I suspect !!

We were woken up very early this morning by work on the house opposite. It’s a 3 bed semi that has been shut up and empty since we arrived here nearly 2 years ago. Such a waste as I am sure there are young families in the village crying out for accommodation. It’s owned by a large local company and it backs onto their premises . I do hope they are updating it prior to rental but so far despite my best efforts I haven’t found out the plans.

Grampy is NOT being helpful . I suggested he pop over and offer the workmen a cuppa and engage in conversation but he cannot be persuaded !! Men! Does he not understand I NEED to know what’s going on :-)

I shall report back once I have come up with a plan B .

Although I'm 'young' in the kitchen to understand the trials GN's have had to live with I send my thoughts to Morethan and will remember them all in my prayers. So very sad.

NannyandGrampy I love your Sherlock Holmes activities. I drive DH to distraction sometimes speculating what our lovely French neighbours get up to...all nice thoughts I hasten to add!

Having a 'go' at peach conserve this afternoon in between watching day one of the Ashes. ( Our French neighbour Elodie gave us some very ripe, squashy peaches yesterday)

Will try to get back on later but in the meantime leaving some peace, kind thoughts and tea, scones/blackberry jam with french-type clotted cream on the kitchen table. X

Greyduster, I have just this moment read the message concerning morethan's much loved daughter in law. Sometimes, we are lulled into a sense of hoped for resolution - no news is good news. Only that is not always the truth of the matter. Our thoughts are with all the family. Please will you be kind enough to tell her so.

As I'm fairly new to Gransnet I'm only just beginning to get to know you all so don't know morethan very well. But I know it's a very sad situation and my thoughts and prayers are with her and all the family.

A very sad time for Moretahan, family and the poor children. My thoughts are with them.

It is a pleasant day here in London- I only hope that the rain stays far away from Yorkshire and wherever they have been hit by massive flooding.

Just popped into the kitchen while listening to the Ashes match on the radio. I have done some dusting while DH has mopped the floors, our lovely cleaner is on holiday.
It is another sunny day here and I've stripped the bed and washed sheets and mattress cover. I'm sorry to hear of the floods in the northern counties while the grass in our parks and gardens is brown.

I am sorry to read about * Morethan*'s Dil. Life can be very cruel. Sending the family strength and will pray for them.

N&G I'm with you on this one, I would so want to know what is going on. I think Plan B might involve you taking them a cuppa though. Men are so annoying. I await an update from the land of the twitching curtain!

Just popping in - plan b was not needed as the man operating the heavy machinery said good morning to Grampy as he was unloading the car !

The upshot is they are totally renovating the entire Zhou’s and garden . It has been empty since 2004 and so you can imagine what’s needed . They estimate 3 months and then as I hoped it will be let to a young family from the village .
