Get up and down off the floor without it being a huge effort.

Get up of settee without a hobble

Not wear contact lenses

Wear a size 10 (or 12 or 14) for that matter?)

Comfort wasn’t always the most important factor

Here's another topic NanKate - I remember when appliances were made to last longer than 10 years, and didn't have so many of those blooming buttons to press.

Oh gosh, all of the above, plus do you remember when the only time you had to take medication was an aspirin for a headache, or the very occasional course of antibiotics? When you didn't have various pills and creams to get through, every single day?

When I didn't have to consider what I ate if I was going out the next day.

Proximity of public loos.....enough said.

I remember when I was happy to have my photo taken. Now I avoid it if I can!
I remember when I knew what my children were talking about.
I remember when I could watch a new chat show without having to turn it off because it was full of things I don't want to listen to........Judge Rinders new show anyone?

EllanVannin Sat 31-Aug-19 12:25:04

Remember in a flash where I'd put something. Now it's become a mammoth task turning everywhere over-----when it's been there all the time under my nose, but could have sworn it was somewhere else.

I miss that childish ability to skip down the street at full speed. Even if I could still do it I would feel silly.

crazyH Sat 31-Aug-19 13:31:42

..........I could fall asleep without Zopiclone

annodomini Sat 31-Aug-19 13:37:46

Kneel...and get up again.

When I used to go to the hairdresser's instead of a hair replacement clinic sad

Hit the pillow at night and get anything between 7 and 8 hours without waking up.

Scrabble around the floor with children under 5 with relative ease

Not have to worry about piling on the pounds after sustained eating out on breaks and holidays, when usual daily eating regime is abandoned.

Eat certain foodstuffs without getting indigestion.

Being able to read small print, sometimes if it's really small can't even see it with glasses on.

Having the confidence to leap across a small stream at the bottom of our garden without fearing I'll end up in it when I'm with gc.

Wearing heels, now I look at shoes from the point of view of their suitability for walking distances in comfort.

Watch a play on TV without falling asleep half way through.

Bellanonna Sat 31-Aug-19 16:56:04

At one time bedside lights in hotels were adequate. Now I need the main light on to read.

LullyDully Sat 31-Aug-19 17:49:52

I remember when I could remember the names of famous people without going through the alphabet to jog my memory.

Or can I ?

sodapop Sat 31-Aug-19 19:28:44

I could jump up from the sofa without feeling dizzy
I could go to a department store and have pleasant service and the clothes I wanted in my size.

Calendargirl Sat 31-Aug-19 21:51:48

I could read labels on items in supermarket without rummaging in my bag for my specs, ditto looking for coins in my purse.
Could recall in a flash names of actors in a tv programme without having to google the info first.
Could eat late at night without it lying like concrete in my tummy when in bed.
Could look at old photos of myself and think I was quite pretty then!

lemongrove Sat 31-Aug-19 22:01:48

All of the above ?...and
I remember when I could stand up from sitting position without a groan,
Walk in high heels without looking like Dick Thingummy ( oh, you are awful, but I like you!)
Remember people’s names
Ditto my own phone number.

Grannyknot Sat 31-Aug-19 22:18:42

Someone asked on a local forum in my area today about having frayed shirt collars turned, now that was a blast from the past! (My Gran used to do that, she was a seamstress).

If I had to say that to my son, he wouldn't have a clue what I was talking about.

FarNorth Sat 31-Aug-19 22:23:34

When I didn't feel horrified by a glance in the mirror.
When I was one of those sitting on the floor, not standing, in a group photo.

petra Sat 31-Aug-19 22:25:49

I can still do most of the above but not the dance all night in high heels. I can't drink as much as I could.
But I can still not only touch my toes I can go further onto my hands.
My daughter is amazed that I can still get my foot into the bathroom basin.
I do balance on 1 leg ( alternately) while cleaning my teeth.
I also do my pelvic floor exercises while cleaning my teeth.

lemongrove Sat 31-Aug-19 22:30:01

?Petra do you like to wash your feet in the washbasin?
Anyway I am very envious.envy

Grammaretto Sat 31-Aug-19 22:39:33

It seems only yesterday I could do headstands! Glance at myself approvingly in shop windows rather than avoid them.
I could bite into an apple without worrying that I'd crack a tooth.
All the others but I still enjoy not having periods (see other thread) not needing baby sitters. not being mortified at not being invited somewhere and not having to go out to work on a cold dark Monday morning. Yay!!!
