I’ve got prunes, mandarins, pineapple for the toasted cheese and tinned cream on mine

We love tinned mango, and I have peaches and pineapple in the cupboard.
I had forgotten tinned Nestles cream, used to love it.
As for jelly, I made one last week. Is there anybody who likes cold jelly and warm custard? Mmmmmm.
Please stop with the grapefruit, as I am on statins, and don't eat it now.

Tinned pineapple for sweet and sour dishes

Oh goodness...all this is making me hungry!

I love canned peaches (we use the term canned here in Canada). My mum used to can peaches, pears, apricots, plums and cherries every year. We had dessert every night with canned fruit, sometimes with ice cream or Birds custard.

Now that most of those fruits are available all year long we hardly use canned fruit, although I still enjoy it. I do use canned pineapple for upside down cake though.

I have never heard of tinned rhubarb and don't think it is available here.

CanadianGran - how did your mum put fruit in tins to can them? If that makes sense?!

I mean that metal tin cans are sealed shut

Does CanadianGran mean preserving in Mason jars, i.e. putting up?
Now guavas, I love those, so why haven't we had them for ages?
Shopping later, so I will look for some and report back.

I always keep tin of peaches in they usually sit there forever. However. I love them and tinned pears. Fruit cocktail I use in my once in a while trifle.

It never occurs to me to actually buy tinned fruit but on holiday I always enjoy an illicit tinned peach or pear from the breakfast buffet. I sneak it into my bowl of virtuous grapefruit and yoghurt and feel very naughty!
Don't know quite why though

Always have tins of Apple slices in. Add some lemon juice and light brown sugar for a crumble. Sometimes add fresh raspberries or whatever I have in. Make up a big batch of crumble mix and keep it in freezer. Almost instant pud for grandkids.

I always have a good stock in my cupboard - mango slices,strawberries,raspberries,sliced peaches,crushed pineapple,mandarin segments........
Saturday afternoon is ‘cocktail time’ here and it’s so much easier(and cheaper) to whizz up a daiquiri or pina colada using tinned fruit rather than the rigmarole of peeling/coring/de-stoning fresh!

If I ever see a tin of lychees, I will buy and scoff the lot straight out of the tin.

Sometimes I buy a couple of tins of black cherries, as wherewithal for an easy-pud clafoutis, but have usually scoffed them all straight out of the tins before any such (guest) occasion has arisen.

I only discovered tinned prunes again a few years ago. Bought them on an Ocado shop I think they were the ‘Essentials’ range. I didn’t have high expectations as I’d remembered the brown wrinkly ones served up at primary school with hot rice pudding. Ugh!

Anyway the tinned ones were bluddy gorgeous. Fat, over ripe plums - what not to like?

I always go for them now at an hotel buffet breakfast! And I do sometimes remember to buy some when I go home afterwards.

Tinned lychees are in my opinion even better than the fresh ones. Quite expensive but I like to have some at Christmas. I just stick them into the fridge for at least 24 hours as they're better really cold.

Annsixty, we used to eat tinned fruit with evaporated milk for Saturday/Sunday tea. The rest of the week we had dinner at 5.30 to 6.00pm.
I still like tinned fruit, particularly apricots and pears, though I rarely eat it. I do often lightly stew some fruit though, which I suppose is similar.

I buy tinned pineapple for a delicious carrot cake recipe I have.

Recently had tinned fruit when I was very ill in Greece and not allowed any raw food! Don’t think I had eaten this since I was a child! It did manage to go down very easily though!

We had tinned fruit every day when we were children. Our kitchen cupboards were crammed with it. This has made me nostalgic as I do like tinned fruit. I buy tinned grapefruit for breakfast and tinned pineapple for grilled gammon. I. Notice now though that the pineapple is sliced so thinly.

Just back from Lanzarote. One of the dessert options was tinned fruit alongside fresh fruit. I tried some and found it too sweet and soft.

I always tempted a poorly toddler who wouldn't eat with tinned pears it worked every time

I buy tinned mandarins as one of the GC decided they were fish and loves them, good way to get some fruit down. Peaches and custard, yes a childhood memory my dad called them sunshine fruit.
