Congratulations to Anno’s granddaughter and commiserations to GG. Today we have bought paint and carpet so we are starting tomorrow to get the decorating done now!

Soop's new kitchen being built while she's absent!
(1001 Posts)Right, kitcheners, get busy. You know the routine. The tin of flapjacks to keep you going is in the corner with a kettle. The water's already on.
soop from your reply to me yesterday I see you don't just follow this thread on Gransnet
!
My hernia repair was a major thing for me, but thank God not life threatening. Until the infection aftermath, which also was treated well, thanks to our local NHS.
Still here after all these years, I try to make the most of it.
And especially grateful for my dear husband still here too.
Morning all !!
Same old grey day here that I am becoming used too!
All plans went out of the window this morning as Grampy has woken up feeling poorly. When he walks he feels he's leaning to the right!! So I have sent him back to bed to see if a bit more sleep helps.
I REALLY want to pop out as I need some wool for a pugs nose - its a long story lol but I feel obliged to stay in case he feels better later .
So its a morning of laundry , tidying and if he is still snoozing I am off to craft in the West Wing !
Hope everyone poorly is feeling better and those exhausted ones get an afternoon nap :-)
Happy Day all !
I have discovered a new word thanks to Maw. Zorsted. I love it.
I ventured out of the kitchen yesterday and ended up tearful to say the least. It was the post by oldgajin and made me so thankful for what I have. A brave lady.
Cold, grey and drippy here today. The sky is overcast and the birds seem dispirited. I have SOCKS on which is unheard of and CH has actually purchased an electric blanket. Thankfully it has dual controls.
Commiserations to the lady with eye problems. Another unwelcome jolt in the order of things. I wish you well. GG lovely to hear your news. soop sorry to 'hear' you have been the subject of painful fettling, and I hope you are feeling a little improved.
Having just received the bill for my blue light transfer in Tasmania from their ambulance service, a sharp intake of breath was taken. Perhaps if implemented here it would stop some of the timewasters.
I am staying put today, reminiscing with friends and avoiding all contact with scales!!!!
I hope you arrive home safely in your 'zorsted' state Maw and get the rest so well-deserved.
The true price of an ambulance would indeed stop the time wasters Izabella!
Maw who is caring for that long suffering gorgeous canine friend called Hattie?
Izabella pleased to hear you are getting used to terra firma again.
soop may I remind you because you are out of hospital, hopefully have less pain that four lettered word "rest" will not go away! You can watch more tennis early pm.
Another dull but mild day here. Spring is around the corner.
Izabella I know what you mean about the true cost of ambulance service.
When in France we had a huge bill from them when husband had a suspected heart attack. Paid off in monthly installments.
The cost wasn't covered by our basic health insurance from the UK.
Good afternoon lovely Kitcheners. I imagine that we shall be moving into yet another kitchen before too long. How time flies!
I received a most unexpected delivery of gorgeous flowers earlier today. Thank you dear Syn I shall share a photo with you.
Maw "Zorsted" is a word that I shall use from hereon. It is so much more gentile than knackered.
N&G Okey dokey...^Us lot^ will tend to Grampy in the poorly mens wing. Any volunteers for the post of stern, strict, no-nonsense Matron? All names in the box marked biscuits.
Fennel Did I miss something? I may have done. I wondered what you meant when to responded to my post. As for cost of medical attention and all that goes with being poorly, we are beyond fortunate to have the NHS. We would be destitute if we had to pay for a fraction of the expertise that we've benefited from over our lifetimes.
Izabella
Nannytopsy An exciting moment awaits. I love decorating. Have done this home of ours several times over. I wouldn't say no to some strapping decorator doing the next job for us. I would pay him hansomely in
and
.
Charleyg Tennis it will be at 3:15. I shall sit in the umpire's chair and shout the odds.
callgirl Said hello to David.
Our pal in the care home has been given the best room in the house. Ground floor, big bay window overlooking the harbour. Such a spacious and light-filled space. I swear that he is looking much chirpier.
Good afternoon kitchen.I haven’t posted for a few days as had a worrying time with a health emergency for our younger daughter.Thankfully test results have shown it isn’t anything serious although we still don’t know what it is but feeling very grateful to the NHS as I know many kitcheners do.
Soop, hope you are feeling better and taking it easy and that MacS is recovered from his fall.
I have missed so much but will endeavour to keep up from here on in.
Like others the post from oldgaijin has saddened me but what a brave lady she is.
TOYA and sending love and good wishes and hope all unwell are doing better.x
Sorry soop - I didn't think I'd mentioned on this thread about my hernia op., and you seemed to know about it!
I did write about it elsewhere on Gransnet.
Like you, I'm prone to hernias. Maybe an inherited weakness from my Dad. Oldest son also had inguinal hernia repairs.
I was disappointed that we (myself and my friend) didn't get to visit the old lady in the OAH yesterday. Which we do most weeks. The visit involves an expensive taxi ride where the funds are running out.
She's in her mid- 90s. The mother of the wife of our previous GP here. This relatively young woman died 2 years ago quite rapidly from cancer. Her mother had been living with them so had to go into 'Care'.
The old lady has some vestiges of memory of her previous life, but has never mentioned this deceased daughter.
The friend who comes to visit with me is about 20 years younger than me and the old lady thinks I'm her Mummy.
.
Sometimes I think the loss of memory in old age is a blessing.
Fennel Understood! Thank you. I do feel that I'm prone to a wee bit of forgetfulness on occasions. Just one of those things. However, I do recall that you and I have stuff in common.
Dear lady. Providing she is comfortable and well cared for, it really doesn't matter that she believes you are your friend's mummy. It's a compliment. You obviously have a nurturing nature.
Susan Please keep us updated regarding your daughter's recent health worries. It doesn't matter how far behind us lot sometimes get. Life often throws the odd spanner in the works. Whenever that happens, we do our best to cope. Having support of other kitcheners is priceless. What counts is that you are coping with family matters.
for you.
I shall keep a beady eye on the status of our present kitchen. The new one will be ready and waiting when the time is right to move on.
Good night for now. TOYA.

Just popping in for a catch up.
Feeling a bit anyhow (as well as zorsted) 2 of DD2's children have chickenpox but she has never had it so we could be called upon in the near future methinks. Then realised I hadn't heard from my younger brother for a while so contacted him. His 6 month old dgd has been in hospital with corona virus (sharp intake of breath) but, apparently, not the same strain as the one causing havoc.
I helped at a carer's event this morning and heard so many sad stories from struggling carers. The world seems quite depressing at the moment.
And, I had a pedicure this afternoon and smudged my little toes driving home.
Thank goodness the poorly men’s wing is open again. Dispatched Mr C to the GP today, as I suspected he has an infection and now has antibiotics. The noise of coughing is deafening and is sucking sympathy out of me. He could do with some tlc.
Sorry grampy is unwell, hope he’s recovering. Your daughters illness sounds to have been a real worry susan, pleased it seems manageable.
Lovely flowers soop,
If you see signs of Spring please send them this way Charley, we could do with something cheerful here.
TOYA, look after yourselves.
Thank you Soop and corner. The dr suspected breast cancer which has now been ruled out.She had a very quick referral to the clinic, within a week of seeing the gp and had all the necessary scans at the appointment for which we are so thankful.Just need to find out what the problem is now.
You are right Soop, the support of kitcheners when life throws a curve ball is priceless.
TOYA
corner the bulbs are popping up- that is the closest I can get to spring. The weather is mild here but damp.
Sorry to hear that Mr.C is still unwell. Taking him to the men's wing is the only way you are going to get any sleep. Maybe whisky for him for medicinal purposes and he may stop coughing long enough to get sleep himself.
I am also coughing and sneezing here but I do not have a chest infection. Mine has been with me, off and on since 23rd December. I do not wish to share a mixed sex ward, I will remain here.
TOYA
Just wanted to send get well wishes to all with illness or family members unwell. As on the good morning thread,it seems a lot in the kitchen are unwell or worried about family members who are unwell.
TOYA ?
Oh dear kittylester
The smudged toenail sounds like the last straw !
Seriously, though, to have contracted Coronavirus is more than food for thought and I wish her a speedy recovery.
Chickenpox is a buggerations and of course your DD could really suffer if she caught that as an adult.
Cue the blue lights ready on your car for emergency grandparents!
I added to my zorstion by waking up at 5 o clock this morning - didn’t need that, and I did most of the journey home (fortunately on the train) on a sort of autopilot. Thought I’d snatch the proverbial 40 winks about 4.30 and was woken by the Archers theme tune!
Hugs to all those poorly or with poorly partners/children /grandchildren!
Just a quick pop in before this kitchen disappears into the ether!
zorsted is a marvellous word maw did it come from one of the grandchildren or did you make it up byself as we say in our family? Hope you’ve recovered now after all that intensive grannying!
Bulbs are popping up in my garden too despite the best efforts of a neighbours cat who visits daily. I do like cats but...?
Susan, that will have been a big worry you’ve had with your daughter. We had a similar scare last year with one of ours. Thankfully all proved ok in the end but it did stop us in our tracks, realising how life can just “turn on a sixpence”.
Sorry to hear there are some poorly menfolk around, please do not pass it on to my old boy, he’s a terrible patient! Good luck corner, n&g and any others who’ve got nursing duties to attend to. Good to see you back in the kitchen callgirl, how is your son these days?
kitty I share your sense of gloom. But I was cheered today coming back from the big city on the bus, by meeting a young mum I know from my toddler group volunteering. She has 3 littlies the oldest, 5 today, is being home schooled! Well I was so proud of them all - the oldest, clutching her birthday unicorn sat beside me chattering all the way. The older wee lad settled down beside an older woman well older than me anyway! who chatted and sang “the wheels on the bus” with him! Mum cuddled the little one who was alternating between eating an apple and giggling uproariously when his mum tried to distract him from nose picking ! Everyone on the bus was smiling, it was a pleasure to see youngsters who’re able to relate to adults appropriately but all the while under the careful eye of their mum. It cheered me no end, on what could be a depressing January day. It’s also been a lift to the spirits reading your posts Izabella, thank you for sharing your special trip with us all. Hope it’s not too sad to be back home again after having had such a big adventure
We had a bit of a walk out yesterday and came across some paths that were allegedly being repaired. Not a workman in sight so the sheep had taken matters into their own hands or should that be hooves? That made me smile too! I’ll attach the video, if it works it may make you smile too!
Just popping in for a quick catch-up. No chance!!!
So much happening in the kitchen so I will settle for wishing all the poorly people well, saying hello ? to everyone and please leave me a trail of crumbs to the new kitchen in case I miss it. I have jaw ache (too much talking ?) which I get on occasions when my tinnitus is bad. For some reason it sets my teeth on edge and seems to affect my sinuses too so haven’t been sleeping well. DH wants to stay up and watch the news tonight but I think I may well take myself off to bed early.
Sleep well all TOYA?
What a wonder is our NHS! Today we spent at our 'local' hospital having Himelf checked over most thoroughly after his health scare on Sunday and they apparently agree with our GP's practice nurse whose verdict was that he is just like Mary Poppins - 'practically perfect in every way'. But he is a boy so is likely to go pop at unexpected moments!
Seriously, he had a "retinal TIA" which has another name which I have forgotten but I gather from what was said that it was not serious (although it could be). It could happen again at any moment but equally may well not - so we have decided to go with the second option - if we can have a choice. As you can tell, I have relaxed now, it is not good but I do tend to keep a tight lid on everything.
We went for tea and cake afterwards which was scrumlicious. Hoping to sleep tonight.
We woke up to the reality of being in a cloud for the third day running and today it didn't lift at all. I am so looking forward to spring!
I have not kept up with anything much in the last few days so apologies to everyone in the kitchen but I think about you all and often wonder how you are doing!
TOYA
Would corks do rather than crumbs, doodle.
? Kitty. Definite feeling of Spring here - there are snowdrops and we are seeing lots of hares in the fields. Perhaps one day we will see them “ boxing”.
Best wishes to the little girl KittyL, same strain or not, it must have been a worry.
Soop, thank you for greeting David yet again. He never met you, unfortunately, but he`s getting to know you now!
GrannyQ, thank you for asking after my son. He still has the cancer, but it hasn`t grown, and he feels very fit, so we`re hopeful. He has a check up at Lincoln hospital on Monday. Hopefully the news will be good.
My daughter has an appointment at the local hospital for her regular (twice yearly) check in with the consultant. It has proved impossible to get a taxi up there, because it`s the time of the "school run" and they`re all booked up, but daughter 3 has stepped in and says she`ll take us.
A couple of months ago, the door leading from the living room to the stairs was hanging off one of it`s hinges. My son said the hinges were broken, but no use buying new ones because the frames appeared to be rotten, on the other door opposite as well. He arranged for someone he knew to come and give me a quote for 2 new door frames and 2 doors. The quote was for £690, a bit more than I planned for! Someone else came, but he never got back to me, then a friend got his handyman son to come and have a look. He said the frames were fine, just needed a bit of Woodfilla where the hinges had been, and the new hinges in a different place. He`s just fitted me 2 new doors, plus hinges and door knobs, for £225, a bit better, don`t you think?
Hoping Grampy and Mr. Corner are feeling better, and not keeping their better halves on the run all the time.
Sorry not to have included everyone, but once I start posting my mind goes a bit blank!
But TOYA constantly!
Serious good wishes to all who have worries, problems with health and with families.
I have my share at the moment so I know just how it feels.
I have been out for a lovely meal with my neighbour.
It was my treat as her birthday is on Monday, she has a lovely and attentive family so her time is taken by their celebrations.
We decided as we are both on our own to book for Valentine’s Day, imagine our surprise when the manager told us they were totally booked up and they hadn’t even advertised.
We will check for another venue.
Halfway through the meal I suddenly realised half of one of my teeth was no longer there!!
I had swallowed it, an emergency trip to the dentist next week.
Good night to all and good wishes to you all with worries.
