Did you have any favourites in the 50s or 60s such as,

‘Does the chewing gum lose its flavour on the bedpost over night’ ? by Lonnie Donegan.

‘Sparky’s magic piano’. Loved it !

My old man’s a dustman.

I know an old lady who swallowed a fly,
She swallowed a spider to catch the fly, that wriggled and tickled inside her
Perhaps she'll die

lemongrove To this day, I cannot utter a decided, 'Right!' without my brain adding '....said Fred' grin

Of all the Morecambe and Wise brilliant songs, this, with Mr Preview, is my favourite.

I loved ( and sang it at the bus stop this week when a car with a wobbling wheel passed us all on it's way to the garage ) - 3 Wheels on my Wagon .
The part when the Cherokees started whooping always scared me !

Callistemon Fri 20-Dec-19 09:32:51

Aren't these songs all brilliant

So much cleverer than some of the romantic songs with a paucity of words

Kalu Fri 20-Dec-19 09:48:50

Our favourite journey songs were

The Trolly song......Judy Garland
Gillygilly ossenfeffer katzenellen bogey by the sea
Mellow Yellow

When DD2 was younger she would give her rendition of
Two Lips from Amsterdam ?

I loved the film Mandy although it made me cry. Can’t remember what age I was when I saw it.

Kalu Fri 20-Dec-19 09:49:42

Mares e dotes and doze e dotes
and liddle lambs e divy

Haven't a clue if that's spelt anywhere near correctly!!

Bathsheba Fri 20-Dec-19 09:56:09

I loved this one from my childhood...

On Top of Spaghetti, all covered in cheese
I lost my poor meatball when somebody sneezed
It rolled off the table, it rolled on the floor
And then my poor meatball rolled out of the door
It rolled in the garden and under a bush
And then my poor meatball was nothing but mush etc, etc.

And how about....

When father papered the parlour
You couldn't see him for paste
Dabbing it here, dabbing it there
Paste and paper everywhere
Mother was stuck to the ceiling
The kids were stuck to the floor
You never saw a blooming family
So stuck up before!

Oh, and another one: 'She wore an itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka dot bikini'.

Bathsheba Fri 20-Dec-19 09:57:43

Grannybags the words were actually:

Mares eat oats and does eat oats
And little lambs eat ivy
A kid'll eat ivy too
Wouldn't you?

JessK Fri 20-Dec-19 09:58:13

'Don't jump off the roof, Dad
You'll make a hole in the yard
Mother's just planted petunias
The weeding and seeding was hard

If you must end it all, Dad
Won't you please give us a break
Just take a walk down the park, Dad
And there you can jump in the lake.'

Good old Tommy Cooper. grin
