... and planning to be financially independent.
?

Namsnanny Thu 09-Jan-20 16:01:46

I'm so sick of this couple Merlot ,notanan, anniebach and sirchenjin have said it all.
If only there was a .magic wand to wave ....proof gone!!

lucywinter Thu 09-Jan-20 16:09:08

Well, I just don't understand this at all. They seem to do so well on their foreign tours. People like them and they seem to like people. I think it's a shame it's come to this, but it might work out well. I hope so.

I don't understand just what makes people hate them so much. Twitter is vile on the subject and, really, GN is not much better.

lucywinter Thu 09-Jan-20 16:11:11

How can a bunch of old grannies be so down on a young couple?

Think you should explain yourselves.

magshard20 Thu 09-Jan-20 16:11:33

What's the old saying "you're damned if you do and damned if you don't ". They are both financially quite well off in their own right, and will still earn money between them I am sure.
Let's face it, if they are left in peace, and the Media stop reporting on their every move, the pair of them and Archie, may start to enjoy life as they should have been doing. Money and the high life are not everything in this world, being comfortable and safe with each other is.

JenniferEccles Thu 09-Jan-20 16:12:54

Unsurprisingly there is almost universal condemnation about them in the media.

JenniferEccles Thu 09-Jan-20 16:19:37

I can’t believe how some on here are defending them.

Surely you can see how appallingly they have behaved particularly in not having the courtesy to inform the Royal family before making the public announcement?

tickingbird Thu 09-Jan-20 16:23:47

I must admit to losing any sympathy I had for this couple. One of Meghan’s Hollywood pals has tweeted a copy of their statement and tweeted “That folks is what power looks like”. That certainly smacks of “hell hath no fury... ‘ I don’t believe her friend would have tweeted that without permission. In other words “Meghan has got her own back and rubbed your noses in it”.

I hope Harry hasn’t made a terrible mistake by marrying this woman. She’s managed to alienate him from his family and possibly the people of this country. He was, without doubt, much loved and one of the most popular royals but he hasn’t been the same in the last few years. I hope his wife has his best interests at heart.

Urmstongran Thu 09-Jan-20 16:27:18

what exactly have they done to make people dislike them so much?

Perhaps Meghan taking a flight to the USA to watch her pal Serena Williams in a tennis final then upon return H&M educating the rest of us via Google (he had bare feet, remember?) about climate change!

notanan2 Thu 09-Jan-20 16:28:06

Think you should explain yourselves

Personally all I have done is hold them to their own standards.

Was all poised to hear the fresh perspectives on feminism MM was going to bring us....

MM said that we should listen to the very important things she has to say... still waiting on that one

H wants the press to not mention his family... until he snaps his fingers and wants to make his profound public statements/tantrums. Which is it H, cant have both!

They want us to be more environmentally aware: splitting their time across 2 continents.

Wants to keep Royal job: wont communicate with rest of RF to agree mutually beneficial terms.

If they werent telling us how to live and how we should listen to them but also leave them alone, they wouldnt be held to the standards they themselves declare and demand!

Anniebach Thu 09-Jan-20 16:29:34

There was no reporting of their six weeks in Canada. There was reporting of their official visit to S.A, they chose to give
interviews whilst in S.A. they chose not to speak of the poverty there, they chose to talk about themselves.

Harry chose to make an announcement that there would be no announcement of the birth of their baby, then telephoned
the media and asked them to Windsor Castle horse stables because he wanted to make an announcement of the birth of their baby of which he had announced there would be no
announcement

Pippa22 Thu 09-Jan-20 16:29:58

Don’t be nasty Lavenderzen, I can’t see anything to criticise Merlot for. I think what she is saying is what many people have observed. A lot of people are concerned by what seems to be Meghan taking advantage of besotted Harry and seeming to be shifting him from his family as she has done with her own. Sad.

sodapop Thu 09-Jan-20 16:30:59

Explain ourselves to you Lucywinter really ?

notanan2 Thu 09-Jan-20 16:31:08

H & Di: crave the press. Its all about "their story"
When the press obliges and turns to them, they dont want it anymore, throw faux tantrums about privacy..
Press dies down: they miss it! Book another interview about their journey/story!

Round and round and round we go..

notanan2 Thu 09-Jan-20 16:33:29

*Harry chose to make an announcement that there would be no announcement of the birth of their baby, then telephoned
the media and asked them to Windsor Castle horse stables because he wanted to make an announcement of the birth of their baby of which he had announced there would be no announcement*

Says it all!

Its Di going out main rather than side entrances of shops with her head down as if she wouldnt be devastated if there was nobody waiting there...

SirChenjin Thu 09-Jan-20 16:33:36

I admit it - I looked at the Daily Mail blush Some of the memes they’ve collated are v v funny www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7868221/Twitter-explodes-hilarious-memes-Meghan-Harry-step-royal-roles.html

mrswoo Thu 09-Jan-20 16:34:59

What a mess! But one that Harry and Meghan have bought on themselves. They cannot have their cake and eat it; pick and choose which bits of being royal to keep and which, the boring bits, to discard. They cannot be part-time royals, if they want to move to Canada or wherever they have to be 100% committed to it and expect nothing from the British tax payer.
Harry was well-liked until his marriage but Meghan has changed all that. The pair of them are whinging hypocrites, self centred, ill-mannered and disrespectful not only to the RF but to the British people.
I am not a Royalist but I do feel for the Queen as to the way they have behaved.

Sparklefizz Thu 09-Jan-20 16:37:26

Anniebach ^Harry chose to make an announcement that there would be no announcement of the birth of their baby, then telephoned
the media and asked them to Windsor Castle horse stables because he wanted to make an announcement of the birth of their baby of which he had announced there would be no
announcement^

It sounds like a Monty Python script. You couldn't make it up! grin

merlotgran Thu 09-Jan-20 16:38:00

Think you should explain yourselves.

I'm happy to, lucywinter although I don't appreciate being described as belonging to a bunch of old grannies.

I have been a monarchist all my life and have huge respect for the Queen and most of the senior royals. I am normally quick to defend any criticism I regard as being unfair.

There have been huge changes in the way the younger royals behave over the last few decades. They have been keen to engage with members of the public, their charitable causes are close to their hearts and their new initiatives are generally well received and seen as progress.

On the whole I admire them but I am not gullible. When Harry and Meghan married I was happy for them but it didn't take long for doubts over Meghan's motives to set in.

I don't need to waste time listing them. They've been discussed on various threads and don't need repeating.

I'm disappointed in the way Harry has treated the Queen and please don't tell me I have no proof of this. She's the monarch - Harry's boss if you like. Not so long ago there would never have been such a breach in protocol as has just taken place.

I don't think I need to tell you who I think is responsible.

notanan2 Thu 09-Jan-20 16:40:55

It also annoys me that they still want to represent Britain (part time) whilst publically snubbing Britain.

MM never wanted to learn about Britain though, she was full of how she was going to enlighten us, and that was initially welcomed... until it turned out that she had nothing to say except that she wanted us to listen to what she had to say about herself

Her rudeness on official visits when she doesnt think the cameras are directly on her is hard to deny. I feel sorry for the people tasked with showing her around places. She shows zero interest in them (or us!)

Lancslass1 Thu 09-Jan-20 16:41:39

Newwatthis,
You ask what the couple has done to make people dislike them so much.
I would pose the question
“What have the pair of them done to make the public like them ?”
I am not anti Royalist but agree with a Prince Charles that the Royal family is too large.
Harry was in a difficult position.
He loved the army but couldn’t stay because of who he was.
What job could he do?
They have been on holiday on Vancouver Island for 6weeks.
What on earth did they do there?
They were staying in a “friend’s home”
Megan couldn’t even do a cupboard clear out or go shopping.
They must have been so bored

notanan2 Thu 09-Jan-20 16:42:43

She only really wakes up engages when the topic switches to her

lavenderzen Thu 09-Jan-20 16:44:35

Your input is appreciated Pippa22

notanan2 Thu 09-Jan-20 16:46:26

Will managed to have a career

The difference is that when H was in the army he went on every boozy pub crawl which must have been a security nightmare!
W was happy to do military work, and later rescue/medical work, without being the life and soul of the party and centre of attention. W's willingness to deflect attention rather than attract it (for the wrong reasons) was what enabled W to have 2 careers before full time royaling.

Anniebach Thu 09-Jan-20 16:47:19

The waxworks of the pair have been separated from the rest of the family in Madame Tussauds !

lucywinter Thu 09-Jan-20 16:51:31

Merlot, people are different. It's happened that Harry met and fell in love with a woman who is different to the usual in the royal family. They worked hard on the tours they've done. Gave a lot of people pleasure. Boosted the Commonwealth. So, she doesn't want to conform to everything that is accepted as normal in the RF's way of doing things, but that doesn't make her a bad person. I think she loves Harry and he loves her. They're a young family with a gorgeous little son. There is no reason to be cruel.

We are mostly old grannies on here. I am and so are you. wink
