Lucywinter
I have been to Vancouver Island .
It is lovely.
However there are a limited amount of things to do I would have thought in the middle of winter.
I think though ,although they have gone the wrong way about it ,that they should just pack up and go .
They can become Mr and Mrs Windsor and never have to Tour again
I actually feel rather sorry for Harry .
He and his brother always seemed to get on .
He seems to have alienated so many people.
I hope he thinks that Megan is worth it.

I have no dislike for them as people but personally think the whole of the Royal family has had it's day and would be happy to see them all disappear from public life.
I hope Harry ,meghan and Archie have a happy life and really give up any privileges they have as Royal Family members .They have more than enough wealth of their own to be independant and should just get on with it.

how can you not see how M&H brought all the ill will on themselves?

So when they go abroad people love them.....those are not the tax payers paying for the lavish lifestyle are they?
They are not being lectured on climate change and social media...two things H&M cannot stay away from.

So what if people here are "*old grannies*" we know more than most, by our experience.

The Queen is a very old great granny are you going to denigrate her as well?

Personally am happy for them to go.......but want the money to stay here.
They are far too cheeky and make exceedingly bad role models.
She calls herself a feminist, for what ? marrying a rich Prince? Wearing obscenely expensive clothes?

Sparkling Thu 09-Jan-20 17:17:54

When she has successfully separated Harry from his friends and family, I don't give the marriage 5 years. She might even divorce him by text as with her first husband, I think she controls everything and everyone, hopefully they will be stripped of titles and Frogmore. She will be as popular as Wallis was here. If they can't be self sufficient with their billions what on earth are they expecting? He is besotted and weak.

SirChenjin Thu 09-Jan-20 17:19:33

Well, she is really

No, she really, really isn’t just a granny. Oh, and at 38 and 30-whatever you’re no longer young.

Callistemon Thu 09-Jan-20 17:22:03

DH rarely comments on anything like this but he did say they should give up their Sussex title.
Obviously Harry would still be a Prince, being a grandson of HM but anyone who displeases the RF is often stripped of their HRH.
They cannot give up their royal duties but expect to profit commercially from keeping their royal title.
Is that in the gift of HM, could she take it away again?

I do think the press and the media have been tough on them and it did start off so well. Yes, lucywinter the tour of Australia was a great success but it seemed to have all gone downhill since then. They have made some daft moves and made too many changes too quickly.

William and Harry were used ruthlessly as young children at their mother’s funeral to prop up the monarchy. Do you remember their long walk in public through all those crowds? The applause of Lord Spencer’s speech which rolled from the crowds outside into the Cathedral? The throne trembled at that moment. The only time it has in my lifetime. The crowds couldn’t turn against any member of the monarchy with Diana’s two children walking there beside her coffin. I think Harry is vulnerable. He has talked about his mental health issues. William has dealt with it in his own way. It is even harder for him. There is a lot more pressure on him as the heir. The brothers were together that day and do seem to have been a lot of support to each other. Harry has withdrawn support from his brother and father as heirs to the throne by his actions. It is a blow to the monarchy at a vulnerable time for the institution. This has come about following his marriage which has presented a series of challenges to the institution. Megan also comes from a broken family and has a career as a celebrity and actress, experiences which will bring their own pressures and seems also from what Harry has said to be stressed and vulnerable. The two brothers seem to be alienated from each other. Duty has been what the royal family have lived by from the time of the abdication. To abdicate from duty when you have been brought up to believe that is the most important thing you have been born to do, must in itself take a toll. I don’t think things look good for future happiness for this couple. Diana was an abandoned child. Harry may be re-enacting his mother’s history through Meagan. She may be looking in her marriage for the security she didn’t get in her own family. The life of celebrities is an unreal and pressured one. I doubt that this marriage will last.

Mr and Mrs Wales, LancsLass!

merlotgran Thu 09-Jan-20 17:24:53

lucywinter. Not sure about the successful actress bit. I'd never heard of her before she was linked to Prince Harry.

Should Prince Harry receive money from the Duchy of Cornwall if he steps back from royal duties? Not sure about that. I'm glad I'm not a hardworking farmer paying rent which helps to fund H&M's lifestyle.

It's being said they will earn millions when they cut free from royal restrictions. If the millions they already have are not enough I think they should be told to drop the word 'royal' from their Sussex brand.

Anniebach Thu 09-Jan-20 17:27:59

It really is unbelievable, they want to live in another country
for half the year, keep their 10 bedroomed house in Windsor, which they don’t own and cost us over two million
to tart up.

keep their titles, use their titles to make money for themselves.

The editor of Hello Magazine has praised them, we can expect an interview with Sparkle in that celebrity trash.

KateF Thu 09-Jan-20 17:28:15

Harry grew up knowing how The Firm treated his mother, he is quite right in wanting to protect his wife and child from the courtiers and senior royals including his father.

The press are carrying on the same way with Megan as they did with Diana, the press crushed Diana, just read Piers Morgan's brutal comments today. Run Harry and Run Far

Anniebach Thu 09-Jan-20 17:30:25

William and Harry were used ruthlessly by their own mother.

Callistemon Thu 09-Jan-20 17:31:54

HM has made some very pointed indications of just what she would prefer the RF to be like in future; the photos on her desk when she gave her Christmas speech, the new photo issued of herself, Charles, William and George.
A slimmed down monarchy fit for purpose.

There will always be a demand for other members of RF to perform duties on her behalf, whatever some may believe, and they are paid, as now, on an ad hoc basis.

Harry and Meghan should have discussed this with the Queen, his father and brother first though. It was extremely discourteous to make an announcement without those involved in this decision being informed beforehand.

lucywinter Thu 09-Jan-20 17:41:01

I'm not denigrating anyone! I like being an old granny. What's wrong with it?

gagsy Thu 09-Jan-20 17:41:56

Fine, if that’s what they have decided, but it would have been common courtesy to tell the Queen first. Not to was unforgivable.

Anniebach Thu 09-Jan-20 17:44:44

It would have been common curtesy to ask the Queen and
Charles first. He is in no position to tell her.

lucywinter Thu 09-Jan-20 17:45:33

They would have been slapped down. Don't blame 'em for doing it quietly.

notanan2 Thu 09-Jan-20 17:47:41

William and Harry were used ruthlessly as young children at their mother’s funeral to prop up the monarchy. Do you remember their long walk in public through all those crowds?

Yeeeeahhh except what actually happened was that the RF tried to cocoon the boys and give them some private family time immediately after the death

This decision was villified by the Diana-mania types who DEMANDED the family return to London and show their faces. The gathered crowds were angry that they boys grief wasnt made public and they werent getting to be part of it. They were quite viscous and beginning to protest.

So the RF back tracked and brought the boys back to London.

Cant win can they?

When she has successfully separated Harry from his friends and family, I don't give the marriage 5 years

I dont think it'll come solely from her
Neither of them have very long attention spans and theyre both immature.
Marraige and baby didnt prompt them to grow up, so if the marraige lasts I'll be surprised!

ladycatlover Thu 09-Jan-20 17:51:49

I hope their idea of "self financing" includes paying back the £2million it cost us taxpayers to do up the house that the Queen gave them. Greedy freeloaders if they don't.

aggie Thu 09-Jan-20 17:53:31

But Lucywinter , they didn't do it Quietly , they trumpeted it as loud as they could , a real slap in the face for his Dad ,

merlotgran Thu 09-Jan-20 17:59:44

Don't blame 'em for doing it quietly.

Quietly? They don't do anything quietly.

When they didn't want to make an announcement about Archie's birth they made an announcement to let everyone know there wouldn't be an announcement.

They used the trip to SA to let the whole world know they were not getting the attention they craved.

They are suing the press. There will be nothing quiet about that!

They let everyone know they needed to step back from royal duties hmm and have a six week holiday in an undisclosed location BUT they made damn sure everyone knew when they were coming back - the reason being they had some Big News!!

I think they are in for a hard time.

Jue1 Thu 09-Jan-20 18:06:27

How wonderful that they are escaping our cruel tabloid press with their lovely child and having a ‘real’ life.
They are young and they should live the lives they want.
Good luck to them.

merlotgran Thu 09-Jan-20 18:09:00

They won't be escaping any tabloid press. There will be even more interest from the media.

They can have a 'real life' but they can't have half a royal one as well.
