... and planning to be financially independent.
?

annsixty Fri 10-Jan-20 09:06:58

Beauty really is only skin deep.
sparkii No rubbing hands here but sadness for Harry and the poor baby in the middle of this mess.
He is possibly being used as a bargaining chip and, perish the thought, conceived with that and the major prize, in mind.
I actually feel ashamed for voicing that thought but it is a possibility.

Anniebach Fri 10-Jan-20 09:09:54

It is a possibility annsixty , I fear for Harry.

JenniferEccles Fri 10-Jan-20 09:14:14

I wonder if we will ever discover how long this has been planned?

My guess is quite a while, possibly right back from when Madam met Harry and realised how besotted he had become.

What a dreadful start to the year for the poor Queen who deserves better.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 10-Jan-20 09:16:25

In Harry’s announcement he said that he would continue to support the Queen, I hope he keeps to that.

Money nor fame can make you happy, if H & M are struggling I hope that whatever “plan” is thrashed out that they find happiness with their son.

As I do not know them I will not comment further.

maddyone Fri 10-Jan-20 09:20:48

There are some truly unpleasant comments on here from Gransnetters about other Gransnetters. The usual close down the discussion subject of racism has been used to insult other plus a variety of other nastiness and insults trotted out.
The British people, and that includes a large majority of Gransnetters, are fully entitled to discuss and form opinions of what has just happened in the royal family, since the royal family are a British institution and are largely paid for through taxation in Britain. In other words, British people have a stake in the royal family. They are there through our consent.
I think those who wish to close down the discussion through insults should read another thread and let those who are interested get on with this thread. Meghan has upset a lot of people, including our monarch, and heir apparent and we have every right to evaluate what has happened.

tickingbird Fri 10-Jan-20 09:22:06

annsixty you shouldn’t feel ashamed of your comment if that’s how you feel. I started off by thinking M had been hard done by but not anymore.

I also feel that it’s fait accompli for her and now she’s calling the shots.

It does seem strange that she left Archie in Canada and now Harry is left to face the music. There is obviously more going on than we know so it will interesting to see how this plays out.

She needs to make sure all her drivers are sober and that the brakes are working on the car....,,,,

Callistemon Fri 10-Jan-20 09:22:18

What makes you think that the Queen is not the compassionate or forgiving type Eloethan?
We don't know that but we are given to understand that the Duke of Edinburgh does not forgive so easily and perhaps, in private life, she defers to him.

You say that one newspaper article reported that they would pay for their actions - which newspaper, surely not the reviled Daily Mail shock. Wild rumours and speculation! As for ruthless Kings and Queens - surely not 'Orf with their heads' Henry VIII style?

You are usually so reasonable Eloethan, I was surprised to read your post!

maddyone Fri 10-Jan-20 09:23:14

I will add that the unpleasant comments aimed at other Gransnetters are thankfully in a minority, most are simply discussing the topic in hand.

Anniebach Fri 10-Jan-20 09:23:28

Agree maddy. Why is opinions on politicians and celebrities acceptable but not this couple.

Callistemon Fri 10-Jan-20 09:25:02

As for the rest of your post, I agree in the main.

However, I do think a revised and slimmed down monarchy would be better for the future and better, too than a presidential system

Callistemon Fri 10-Jan-20 09:25:50

That last post was to Eloethan

JenniferEccles Fri 10-Jan-20 09:27:06

What grates the most for me in this whole sorry story is the fact that the senior Royals reacted immediately to M and H’s announcement with assurances that their wishes would be accommodated.

Yet Meghan still instantly rushed back to Canada. I know the baby was left there with the nanny, but they could have all come back here to properly sit down and talk to Harry’s family.

But no that’s not Meghan’s way is it?

I BET her father is sadly nodding his head in recognition of her behaviour.

Wow! Just how low....... (and I'm not talking about MM)

Loved the "car crash" reference!

Just unbelievable!! Never mind, perhaps she's busy planting trees now.

I hope Elo doesn't think I was being unpleasant as I wasn't.

I expect Chelsy and Cressida are each having a little sigh of relief and a wry smile, thinking thank goodness it isn't me.

Poor Harry, falling in love but the women he loved walked away because of who he is and knowing just what the future would be like.

I remember my dear friend saying years ago that he should just marry Chelsy and the pair of them be allowed to go and live in Africa, she always felt so sorry for Harry; I wonder what she would think now.

annsixty Fri 10-Jan-20 09:42:51

lucywinter

My thoughts and feelings are just as valid as yours and I have just as much right to express them but thank you for your response.

tickingbird Fri 10-Jan-20 09:44:11

Wow! lucywinter is back.

What’s low my dear is the way MM has behaved since marrying into the RF. It’s very strange how you have appeared from nowhere to rush to the defence of this woman. She has caused a massive rift in the RF and, judging by their new, shiny website, has been planning this for quite some time.

She knew what she was getting into when she married Harry. Even I would have reservations about marrying into the RF. She would have been briefed about the downside but she has the title and the baby now. Didn’t stick around long after getting everything she needed did she?

maddyone Fri 10-Jan-20 09:49:29

Annsixty, yes you do have every right to express your opinions. Ignore nasty comments from the few on here who are determined to insult other Gransnetters.
By the way, I think you’re right, the baby was conceived very quickly, and I’m pleased for Harry that he now has the child he longed for, but I do hope Meghan respects the fact that Archie is Harry’s child as well as hers. Looking at her past behaviour I’m not at all sure that she will.

lucywinter Fri 10-Jan-20 09:52:04

tickingbird - It’s very strange how you have appeared from nowhere to rush to the defence of this woman

Do you think I am CAS or MI5? Or perhaps the Canadian equivalent, whatever that is.

Or perhaps my other name is Doria?

vegansrock Fri 10-Jan-20 09:55:58

Lots of misogyny on here - its always the woman's fault - anyone would think Harry wasn't a grown man with his own opinions.

GrannySquare Fri 10-Jan-20 09:56:56

My understanding is that Baby Archie is with nanny AND Gma Daria.

It’s reasonable to assume that H&M planned to be in the UK for just a short period (i.e days) of time following their <ahem> holiday in Canada.

Meghan has not returned to Canada on a whim or on the run. I assume that she will have planned & booked her flight (commercial flight of course) to get back to Archie.

Anniebach Fri 10-Jan-20 09:57:08

They want to take a step back ? She didn’t take a step back
she did a runner

GrannySquare Fri 10-Jan-20 09:57:28

Soz, Doria.

Callistemon Fri 10-Jan-20 09:58:19

Whilst 37 isn't old these days for first time mums, I think it was wise to not waste any time.
They both look besotted with baby Archie.

tickingbird Fri 10-Jan-20 10:01:09

lucywinter you might be MM for all I know or one of her pals. Maybe the one that tweeted “that’s what power looks like”. You do seem invested in defence of M’s honour - repeatedly calling out other GN’s as low. People call it as they see it and if their opinion differs from yours get over it.
