morethan, your poor son must be well past the end of his tether. How can his in-laws not understand that? I don't envy you, in the midst of all this sadness, having to clear up after your kitchen reconstruction.
Maw, chin up! Scotland can spring surprises. Look how they resurrected themselves after half time last year to force a draw when it had looked hopeless.OK, call me a 'cock-eyed optimist'. One good thing yesterday: I got to the dentist at 8.45 and he found that I hadn't broken the tooth but a huge filling he had put in not so long ago had come out and he would replace it free of charge - a phrase that rarely passes a dentist's lips!
It feels as if 'waiting' is what today is all about for so many of you. Waiting for results, waiting for treatment, waiting for surgery...TOYA, especially if you are waiting....

Thank you N&G You have, on many occasions, supported me through tough times. I appreciate the time and trouble you've made to create special greetings cards. I would, much earlier on in my Gransnet days, have been dismayed by uncomplimentary comments regarding the essence of the kitchen. Those days are long gone. Our kitchen will remain open for as long as it's needed.

Our Baggs had a nasty tumble recently. In spite of her discomfort, she had made us nutty flapjacks. Kindness personified. Please form a disorderly queue.

Baggs, a broken shoulder is a right buggeration, as I know to my cost. I hope it will be quick to heal and I'm certain that marmaladed flapjack will enhance the healing process.

Feeling on top of the world today so after going out for coffee with friends will go for a walk with other friends this afternoon and indulge in some Cava tonight with my fish and chips.

I have just moved the garden furniture closer to the fencing- my contribution towards the storm which is apparently on its way.

Apart from being "fluffy", I read ages ago we are also "cliquey." Some of us have contributed here for years so over time we have learned a lot about each other. Also, most of us have been to meetups and I have met some really nice helpful people.

This is the kindest and most helpful thread imaginable; just because some people have been on it for ages and others of us are fairly new doesn’t pose any problems.

My especial sympathies to Maw. My oldest friend (70 years and counting), DD’s marvellous godmother, is dying very slowly from a horrible neurological disease. Can’t really talk, but values e-mails, so I keep firing short gossipy ones into the ether. It is cruel beyond belief and I miss her so much even though she is still alive.

Have had I-pad problems the last few days and find posting on the phone altogether too much, but have kept up with the news. Now solved by a visit to the Apple shop and the attentions of a twelve year old. Delighted to hear that Baker is home and that Dragonfly is seizing the day in her usual brave way.

GrannySomerset Aren't children marvellous with technology? I am pretty much hopeless. I was given an I-phone (without instructions) - it has not seen the light of day. I also have an I-pad and have never sworn so much in my long life. Hence, it too is "grounded". I would like to be anything other than "last century" but fear that it's too late. As long as my elderly cell phone (nothing remotely fancy) and this equally aged computer work, I am perfectly happy. After all, I have you lot to keep me entertained.

morethan, your post made me feel so embarrassed for moaning to all and sundry about my current situation but how on earth you cope, I can't imagine. The stress must be so great for all of you especially your poor son. And, no doubt, you will be worried about him and the children as well as your daughter in law. And, then a new kitchen to sort out.

Maw, I'm sorry to hear about your friend. It doesnt matter whether we see them or not just knowing people are 'there' is enough and you've lost that.

I've actually come for a huge moan but feel ashamed after reading about morethan.

We have DH brother here - he came from Thailand for his grandson's wedding and stayed with us for 2 days. BIL's daughter ended up in hospital with suspected broken ribs having been punched by her husband so we mounted a rescue mission!! We had to virtually force BiL to not leave at the intended time so he could be here for her. He wanted to get back to his latest lady love!!!! And, now he's got a really, really bad cold.

kitty I'm flabbergasted and speechless. What a horror story.

The thing is, while DN is happy to be here after years of abuse, BiL is moaning about feeling ill and missing his love!!! It was quite telling that when she went to see a solicitor yesterday she asked me to go with her - not her dad!! And, he's flipping 82 (for crying out loud) but cant wait to abandon his poor abused daughter and get back to his lady love.

Sorry, I'm on a roll now and likely to chunter for a week!!

AND, while we were out, he went round the house turning every flipping light off including the ones in the hall that we keep on all day.

How can anyone say that the kitchen is fluffy when all life is here, funny, heartbreaking ,gritty and real, and as for cliquey---well, as a newbie I have been welcomed in with such kindness and caring. Long may the kitchen stand with open doors, cake on the worktop and soopwithin, Queen of hearts!

Baker is enjoying a luxurious sleep on the bed at present. He's obviously starting to feel a bit better, although still snotty and snuffling. Ordinary catfood won't tempt him to eat but luckily there are some packs of the Christmas turkey in the freezer and he's tucked into little saucers of that.
