Can’t sleep - too busy this weekend, which does not make sense. Surely I should be more tired? Anyway another very busy day tomorrow, helping with painting and decorating. Thank goodness for sugar soap, which has saved some sanding. Having read about all the bacon, egg and fried bread, I have decided to have bacon egg and potato scones for dinner tomorrow.
dragonfly hope you don’t feel too awful this week. Prayers for those of you who are suffering with health issues and challenging supporting roles. Hope you all see some signs of spring this week once the storm has passed.

Synonymous Mon 10-Feb-20 08:55:02

Feelingmyage sometimes it is your mind which just won't stop. If I had realised you were posting we could have messaged each other as the last time I looked at the clock it was 2.15, so frustrating!

Hope nobody has blown away, still very windy and wet here. Smokie still being kept indoors so we had the winter Olympics in the sitting room again last night. No feathers left on the waggler as he was far too quick for me and I had to remove some of them from his teeth, he just loves the attention!

Synonymous Mon 10-Feb-20 09:14:14

Maw back then during the Great Storm one of our friends was in his patrol car and following a vehicle without any lights down the road so he decided to stop and warn the driver until he caught up with it to find it was a garden shed! shock
DS was telling me that yesterday the trampoline which takes four people to lift was lifted by the storm and deposited over 10 feet away and must have lifted it over the 6 1/2 feet tall pergola and fence, nothing damaged though. Now they just have to work out how to put it back! confused

soop had to laugh about having virtual washing up! Eminently ignorable! As for going gup ladders to do anything tell MacS that there are ASBOs for things like that! Himself has been banned with warnings of dire consequences by everyone you can think of - doesn't seem to stop the longing and twitching to do all that though! sad

MawB Mon 10-Feb-20 09:54:51

That made me, as they say, “LOL” synonymous !
This has also brought a smile to my face - DGS loving the snow in Minneapolis.
I have never seen such rosy cheeks on him! What a change from wet London (not that I would thank anybody for snow like that here!)

Charleygirl5 Mon 10-Feb-20 10:04:34

Maw Flynn is having the time of his life but I agree, I hope the snow stays there! At that age, they do not feel the cold.

Moaning Minnie persuaded me to crawl out of bed after 8 am-she went outside but was back indoors before I had switched on the kettle. She did not stay, she ran out mumping and moaning so that will be her until 7 pm.

soop I really think you must have a word with your dentist because I am well aware of that agony and it is the same tooth.

There should be a few sets of ladders up for sale soon!!!

I remember another storm, must have been about 15 years ago when I came home to find my heavy side gate on my back doorstep and several fence panels down. That day, our CAB receptionist was blown over crossing the park on her way home and not far away, a woman died when a wall collapsed on her.
soop, dare I say that the fear of the dentist is often worse than the experience itself? Gird up your loins and get yourself to your dentist!
The mighty Flynn looks like a little Arctic explorer, Maw. He's having a lot of fun, but I'm too old to feel envious. When DS2 was in hospital aged 2, he was given a Dr Seuss book called 'Snow' which he (and I) knew off by heart by the time he was discharged.
callgirl, when I read about your disappointment, I felt like crying for you. I know how much and for how long you had been looking forward to it. I hope Lynne's arm is OK and not broken, but obviously you couldn't take the chance of leaving it un-investigated. sad

soop Mon 10-Feb-20 11:22:18

About an hour ago my heart sank because the internet was out of action. I wandered in hopefully and it's back. I dare not say for how long. The weather is chaotic. Anything can happen.

I just wanted to forewarn you that I may not be able to keep in touch as often as I'd like today. Just in case...

Synonymous ASBOs noted. At the mo' he cannot walk upright as the wind is beyond fierce.

I could cry for you, callgirl1

chicken Pats for Baker

Maw thank you for sharing a delightful photo of rosy-cheeked Flynn doing what children love in the deep, deep snow.

anno The part tooth should be extracted. Dentist cannot do so for fear of that awful bone disease that may well result due to the cancer meds I'm taking.

Feelingmyage It's possible that you are over tired. You are running on a near empty battery. Bless you. Take an hour for yourself. You need to switch off - albeit briefly.

Charleyg Purrrrrrrrrrrr

soop Mon 10-Feb-20 11:31:53

corner If I had chocolate, which I haven't, I would share with you.

Daisyboots Painful anythings are a buggeration. I shall provide you with a supportive pillow and a hot water bottle and my best tartan blanket. that's you sorted. wink

venall I love the word "scunnered". I must use it more often.

Nannytopsy If I could remain upright in this wind (which I can't) I would risk going on to the beach to take a photo of the mighty sea. The last time I ventured on to the beach to take photos I fell face down and ruined my good looks. I may be able to find the photo.

Doodle Himself has had to go to the local surgery to have a nasty wound dressed. Long drawn out sigh...

soop Mon 10-Feb-20 11:44:51

Here is the pic. Not a pretty sight.

soop Mon 10-Feb-20 11:45:51

I sent a text to Baggs and she his not feeling too well at present. Get well soon, Baggs flowers

Charleygirl5 Mon 10-Feb-20 11:50:26

OMG soop some folk should stay indoors and you are one of them!

Callgirl so sorry- I know how much you were looking forward to seeing the show. The only good thing is that at least the tickets were not wasted.

There is not a breath of air here- long may it continue.

Bellanonna Mon 10-Feb-20 11:54:11

Oh I got a shock there soop. I’m glad it’s not something that's just happened.

Synonymous Mon 10-Feb-20 12:26:41

Well, soop we don't want any repeat performances of that kind of look so please stay indoors! shock

So sorry you missed out on your treat Callgirl you really needed that to give you a'lift'. You will have to put your thinking cap on and find another treat. Hope your daughter is ok.

Maw the snow across the pond is 'proper stuff' and doesn't seem so wet somehow and you don't get as cold as quickly as we do here. Lovely family memories being made. smile

Synonymous Mon 10-Feb-20 12:41:04

Baggs thinking of you and hoping for a quick recovery for you! flowers

charleygirl where is all this wind coming from if you haven't even got a breath of air? Not insinuating anything at all you understand but we still have a real blow going on here and it is clearly coming from somewhere!

My home help has been here today and done all my ironing and helped me change my bed. Her husband popped in on his break and filled up my porch log box from the woodshed and also heaved some stuff out of the loft for me. Such a blessing! I am trying to get everything whittled down now that Himself can't get up the loft ladder.
I have banned the phrase "It might come in useful"! hmm

Charleygirl5 Mon 10-Feb-20 12:51:59

Synonymous I vowed when I moved here I would empty my loft because when I moved from the last two houses I just moved stuff from loft to loft. This loft is totally empty and I intend it stays that way. My days of going up the proper loft ladder are over and also it would be a matter of time before the ladder crashed down on my head because it is difficult to control (for me).

We had enough wind yesterday to last us for many a year- I thought everybody was the same but obviously not.

grannyqueenie Mon 10-Feb-20 14:17:26

You’ve scared the life out of me for a moment there soop. I always, who knows why, start reading at the end of a magazine or in this case a kitchen chat, so of course I thought the photo was of an injury you’d just sustained think Storm Ciara ....phew I’m glad I was wrong, it looks very sore. That’ll teach me to go back to front!

Will nip back later x

soop Mon 10-Feb-20 14:58:43

Synonymous Please pass your message on to MacSporran. He maintains that everything may be useful some day. Our loft and shed are testament to this. I do love him. I accept that it's just one of his little foibles.

granniequeenie If I hadn't been clutching MacSporran's precious camera close to my chest as I tripped...who knows, I may have saved myself a whole lot damage. As it was, his last words to me as I left the house were...take care of the camera. wink

dragonfly46 Mon 10-Feb-20 15:43:34

So sorry you missed Strictly callgirl. What a disappointment!

I hope you feel better soon Baggs is your shoulder causing pain?

That picture gave me a shock soop stay away from the shore!

My DH used to go regularly to Minneapolis with his work and would bring home the most delightful snow suits for the DC.

I went for a quick nap and woke up to thick snow. Most of it has melted now though.

dragonfly46 Mon 10-Feb-20 15:57:48

Sorry meant to address my Minneapolis comment to you Maw - just woken up!

Charleygirl5 Mon 10-Feb-20 15:57:53

Syn the wind here was obviously only having a rest because it is back with a vengeance. There was very heavy rain a while ago, naturally when I was driving and could not find a parking space.

Bargain Annie saw a wall mirror in a charity shop window for £3 and I could not leave it there- not a mark on it.

I do hope that Tara appears fairly soon or the wind may be such she will not be able to come home.

Lins1066 Mon 10-Feb-20 16:03:09

Hello everyone
I haven't been in the kitchen much for the last few months due to illness and family problems. I had 2 spinal fractures which I now know were caused by osteoporosis. Also MrLins has been laid low for the last few weeks with cellulitis in his leg. He has been treated at home with antibiotics, previously when he had it, he was hospitalised. He is getting better, though his leg is still painful. As Soop would say, buggerations.

Our son and dil are getting divorced. It has been an unhappy few months. We no longer see or have any word about the lovely Cavalier King Charles spaniel that we loved so much. We are heartbroken. Soop painted two beautiful pictures of her, which we treasure.
I have almost posted a number of times, but found it hard. It is what it is.
I promise I will catch up with everyone, in the meantime, I will leave a Victoria sponge on the worktop.

dragonfly46 Mon 10-Feb-20 16:26:42

So sorry to hear about your buggerations.
I hope your back is healing and Mr Lins leg is improving.

It is always sad when a marriage ends and so worrying for you. I hope things get better soon and life settles down for you. flowers

chicken Mon 10-Feb-20 17:04:46

Lins, sorry to hear of your troubles, both family and physical. I hope things improve soon.

Charleygirl, tell Tara from me that she's not to be a worry and must come in on time. (Dream on!)

The vet rang today to say that Baker's cat flu is down to the Herpes virus, FVR, and he's a carrier so will be liable to flare-ups if stressed or has a lowered immune system. It's likely to go on for another week or so, although he is getting a bit better --really tired though.

I've just made banana bread, so am leaving some on the kitchen worktop. Help yourselves. It's got plenty of glace cherries in it.

soop Mon 10-Feb-20 17:08:30

Lins1066 You have indeed had more than your fair share of down-stuff to contend with. Remember that, if you feel like off-loading some of pent-up stress with us lot we are here to listen and give you unlimited virtual (hugs). The kitchen is a refuge. Your cosy chair awaits. We have an unlimited supply of tartan blankets. You shall have the MacIntyre tartan. flowers

What a bloody awful day! And yet, we are the fortuneate ones. We do have power and we have shelter. No cause for complaint.

As the care home remains infected with the flu virus we shall almost certainly not go visiting tomorrow. It would be unwise to expose MacSporran to any infection. So far, he's done remarkably well. Bless!

Log off time. I would love a bacon sandwich. No bacon on the premises. Pie in the sky and all that. Come to think of it, I would love a plate of apple pie and custard. My appetite knows no bounds.

Stay warm and safe. smile moon

soop Mon 10-Feb-20 17:12:26

Our posts crossed, chicken. Baker has been through a tough time. He is showing signs of progress. That is what counts. He must remain stree free... so...lots of pampering and TLC is prescribed.
I almost forgot - I also have a passion for banana bread with glace cherries. Just a modest wedge for me please. grin
