Am getting storm ready grin candles and matches....
Plenty of food in.... moving pots of emerging Spring bulbs to shelter.....
Hope you all have no problems, but perhaps tomorrow could
Say how things are in your neck of the woods.
My DH is always worried about fencing being blown down as we seem unlucky on that score.

We've had lovely blue skies in the North Pennines today but it's blowing up rough now. We're surrounded by trees, so always concerned about them, or at least some big branches, coming down.

The owls are still hooting outside. Maybe they're trying to tell us that they're seasick!

It's been a lovely day here in Cheshire, got loads of washing dry, but started to get blustery at about 4.00pm, and now it's much windier and raining on and off. Mommawolf lovely to hear that all your animals are safely tucked up inside, you are obviously animal lovers, they are very lucky. I don't really mind the wind, I like listening to it and the rain when I am all tucked up in bed. Apparently, tomorrow morning 8.00/9.00am is going to be the worst time for the NW, so hopefully tonight won't be too bad. Hope you all keep safe.

grannybiker what about that! A parachute jump. I wouldn't do it when there was no storm.
Bluebelle I feel your fear. I don't like this weather . It's scary.
Mommawolf your animals and family sound so cosy!

My men (DH and French student) are cooking up something in the kitchen, so I have nothing to do.

Mr P has just checked the news feed on his phone, something like "UK to be plunged into Arctic hell!"

For heavens sake! Ok, it might be rough in some areas, but surely "Arctic hell" is rather ott?

Callistemon Sat 08-Feb-20 19:30:19

Arctic hell oh!

I read that thundersnow will reach us next week

Does that mean a snowstorm with thunder and lightning?

BBbevan Sat 08-Feb-20 19:34:38

Never heard of ‘thunder snow’. Thunder thighs yes !,!!

MawB Sat 08-Feb-20 19:40:49

? ? ? or polar ? polar ??

Callistemon Sat 08-Feb-20 19:42:23

I have been out in a thunderstorm then heavy snow started falling.
I presume that was thundersnow

paddyanne Sat 08-Feb-20 19:44:21

trees down,a greenhouse in bits the usual trampolines bouncing up the road, its wild in the west of Scotland. My son is out driving back from work in this and I 'm stressed ,he had a bump a couple of weeks ago ,car written off and it just prays on your mind .Keep safe all

Callistemon Sat 08-Feb-20 19:44:58

I've remembered now - it was in New Zealand not the UK.

Hetty58 Sat 08-Feb-20 20:05:02

It was a brilliant sunny afternoon here. I checked the fences and moved the pots to shelter. It's hard to believe that a storm is coming but we're all stocked up with essentials just in case we have to stay in.

phoenix Sat 08-Feb-20 20:13:18

Just thought, if we do get strong winds here in North Devon, and if it was to actually blow down the rather tired and decrepit garden fence...........

grannypiper Sat 08-Feb-20 20:42:09

grannybiker Well done you, wish i was that brave

BlueBelle Sat 08-Feb-20 20:45:26

I ve definitely been in a a thunderstorm in the snow in UK a few years back never experienced it before
Still calm here maybe it’s tomorrow

Grandad1943 Sat 08-Feb-20 20:55:03

Judging by the way the Red Top newspapers constantly print headlines in regard to bad weather about to encompass Britain which Rarely comes to pass, there must be money in such print.

However, having just flown in and arrived home from Belgium, the turbulence as we crossed over the channel coast was far worse than anything I have ever experienced previously on an aircraft.

So, those Red Tops could just be right this time, but it is still dry and just getting somewhat breezy here in North Somerset at the minute.

MiniMoon Sat 08-Feb-20 22:19:01

The wind is whistling down the chimney. I can't hear any rain at present, but it was raining earlier. My DH is worrying about his greenhouse and poly tunnel. Let's hope they don't blow away!
The electricity has been off in a village about 6 miles from here, but it is higher than we are.

Callistemon Sat 08-Feb-20 22:25:11

The wind is whistling down the chimney, nothing worse than high wind yet.

That must have been a bit hairy, Grandad.
I remember when my relatives were flying home in the 1987 hurricane from Portugal and it put them off flying for quite a long time.

I feel sorry for anyone who has to get to work.

Yennifer Sat 08-Feb-20 23:02:02

Kent live said as bad as 1987. I can't imagine that could be true given the way reporters exaggerate these days x

MissAdventure Sat 08-Feb-20 23:10:10

During the 1987 winds, I had no idea what was happening, so we set off to walk to school, as usual.

First we got pinned to a fence panel, and when we managed to fight free, we were chased down the road by a garden shed!

Callistemon Sat 08-Feb-20 23:20:49

Hurricane? What hurricane.

The thing about the October 1987 hurricane was that many of the tree still had their leaves, the ground was very wet and consequently the trees blew down.

After a lovely walk on the beach and sitting outside a sea front cafe in the warm sunshine with just a gentle breeze blowing we came back and wondered about storm preparations. Mr C said he’d deal with the garden, nothing for me to do. When I wandered out to see I noticed he had beheaded the metal wind spinner. I commented on the thoughtfulness, some wind directions unwind it from the pole, it could just fly over the fence and behead a passing person . Nope, not the reason ‘I’ve just got the flipping thing perfectly upright, not having the wind spoil it’. He still can’t understand why I laughed grin.

It’s about averagely windy here, we’re close to the coast, if the forecast is right tomorrow will be noisy and no, I’m not going out, well I might if we get a power cut in search of family with electricity. Stay safe everyone.

BBbevan Sun 09-Feb-20 03:34:41

Well I'm awake. I can hear the sea crashing and the trees creaking. A bit concerning as the house is creaking a bit too. Will make some tea to take my mind off it all.

dragonfly46 Sun 09-Feb-20 05:14:33

Wind just beginning to get up here in in Leicestershire. It has been eerily quiet until now!

dizzyblonde Sun 09-Feb-20 05:19:45

I've got to leave for work in five minutes. Not looking forward to driving down the M3.

HurdyGurdy Sun 09-Feb-20 05:42:21

It was a beautiful day in Bedfordshire yesterday. We did nothing to prepare for any storm.

The wind started getting up at about 11pm and has been blowing all night. It's strong, but I've heard worse.

Hopefully when daylight arrives, little damage will be revealed.

Fingers crossed that other GNs are safe and well
