A lot of cases its a lack of good psychiatry not a lack of listening/caring friends and family.
And sometimes the psychiatry IS there and its still not enough

Its just too much to expect lay friends and family to be able to treat a medical condition, even if they wish with all their hearts they could

I recently read an article saying that in fact suicide is mostly a spontaneous event and that the person usually only makes the decision ten or fifteen minutes before they take action. It’s very hard for anyone else to be able to prevent that, given the short timescale. One of dd’s friends died through suicide last year. She had been out walking one evening, swapping normal messages on her phone with someone from work. The next day, she didn’t turn up at work - she’d killed herself shortly after her final message. To this day, no one knows why, she left no clue at all. Her mother says it was a moment of madness.

Also, despite the tragic cases we hear about, people are mostly not very successful. Dd has worked in A&E for a time as part of her medic training and many people are admitted, having attempted suicide. Most of them required no treatment (though everyone is offered an immediate appointment with a psychiatrist) while others need monitoring or some treatment. Not one of them was successful, thank goodness, and their families must be so grateful for that.

I didn’t mean this to be about me, so much is being said in
the media about the poor woman, blame being tossed to
the production company, the CPS etc. I hadn’t heard of her
untill her death.

When my darling daughter died I blamed the medical team,
the hospital where she had been treated several times, the police, the housing officer for refusing to allocate me a two
bedroom bungalow so she could live with me, I asked myself
what more could I have done.

We don’t know how this poor woman died, we don’t know if
she left a letter, she may not have wanted to die , she may
have had a history of mental health problems.

I seemed to have silenced this thread with my post, I speak
out about mental illness because it has always been in the
shadows, it brings shame, critcism, judgement.

It needs to be spoken about, it can affect anyone, any family.

annie by personalising the issue ( bravely) I think you’ve actually shed light on how uninformed the reaction is to CF’s death. Every suicide is different, a tragedy to those who cared for the person and people want to be able to cope with their feelings. The only suicide I’ve been close to was a friend not in my small close circle. I won’t go through the details but I knew he was in a dark sad place, he was in my kitchen the day before, I tried to reach out. When he died I was so angry with his dd ( who had put him in an impossible situation) but I know some of my anger was anger at myself because I felt I’d failed him. I know of course that’s not true but at the time I felt so guilty and questioned what more I should have done. Obviously I’m not comparing yours and mine experience but just offering a further ( limited) insight.
I just wish the present coverage would stop being so hypocritical and hyper.

The DM much loved by many a GNer has published photographs of the interior of CF’s flat with a headline along the lines of ‘Inside the £3000 a month flat where CF killed herself’

How did they get the photographs? Did a friend ! give them

It doesn’t actually matter how - publishing them is the ‘journalism’ of the sewer.

I am actually worried about the boyfriend now. Although it seems like he was completely justified in calling the police when he did, he must be feeling terribly conflicted over whether he did the right thing, especially as he continued to love her. And he may be wondering if he had just risked the bail conditions to see her on Valentines day it might have saved her life. He did nothing wrong, but he must be wondering if he did. I hope he is also getting plenty of support.

It does matter how the photographs were in the Mail, if passed
on by a friend the responsibility lies with the friend

If you go onto market history on right move you can often pull up pics from last time it sold
(You can do this when buying, look at the details and pics of the previous sale!
They arent always still on there but often are

Yes I thought the photos looked like letting agents - in which case they are copyright and the DM must have paid for them. annie what a very odd moral position. Are you really saying the DM is let off the moral hook because someone else provided the photos? God give me strength.

Then it’s the Mail which deserves criticism

Rentals with high turn over often just stay up on the letting agents site

And the DM headline is known as ‘click bait’. It was deliberately worded to encourage a click ( clicks mean money)

Lets be honest, theyre there because theres an appetite for it.
People will look.

Of course it’s the DM which is responsible - they published the bloody photos. It doesn’t matter where they came from. ?

Exactly not but you missed out ‘and by looking at them they increase the DM’s revenue’ . It’s all about ££££££
