I have just read this online and I’m very shocked. I can’t say I know much about her but watched Love Island last year. I know she’s been charged with assaulting her boyfriend but he was standing by her.

I just think it’s very sad.

ReadyMeals Mon 17-Feb-20 10:22:03

I had always assumed that celebrities had their agents manning their social media accounts. I had no idea they sit there posting all by themselves. I thought they might have incognito accounts to chat to their friends.

It may be that more information was about to come out via the bodycam footage and past relationships which caused more anxiety.

Laura Whitmore, her friend, said in her speech that CF did have support but said that seemingly it wasn't enough .... and for some people, however much support they have, they are a bottomless pit. Perhaps that is why someone said she was "draining". She had a friend staying with her who was supporting her.

I feel "enough now", she is still front page headlines today when there are horrible things happening in the UK with the floods and Corona. Time to let her friends and family have some peace. I don't know why Phillip Schofield had to tearfully jump on the bandwagon last night in Dancing on Ice. I've come to the conclusion he is an attention-seeker.

ReadyMeals Mon 17-Feb-20 10:53:25

Lol Sparkle, I think Philip Schofield is with the rent-an-emotion agency :D

OMG, I don't watch Dancing on Ice but I caught the first few minutes with the blubbering Schofield. What a silly carry on. The poor lady who died ,so sad. Once again, we know nothing. Was addiction part of the picture? People coupleing on an island and having sex for other people to watch???

The world has gone mad.

Delila Mon 17-Feb-20 12:04:57

What a thoughtful and compassionate post Urmstongran.

Millie22 Mon 17-Feb-20 12:10:18

All the lovies are out in force this morning on tv saying they couldn't eat their roast dinner yesterday as they were so upset. I'm finding this all so strange and sad but a lot of people seem to have forgotten that there was a domestic violence incidence that happened. Many men are afraid to speak out when in a violent relationship as they are not believed.

tickingbird Mon 17-Feb-20 12:53:10

Whatever went on with the DA incident, I still think she was hounded. If the bodycam footage was humiliating for her, maybe she had been drinking. The fact is the papers would have got hold of it and it would have been broadcast to the world. Either way, she has taken her own life and the fact that she chose to present a show like LI has absolutely nothing to do with it. It’s a job and it pays well. Presenting LI doesn’t make her less deserving of our sympathy. Such condescending comments. Beyond belief and from the usual quarter. I suppose she’d be more worthy if she presented Newsnight?

Urmstongran Mon 17-Feb-20 13:11:43

SparkleFizz I think Philip Schofield and Holly Willoghby take turns in crying over something ...
?

Urmstongran Mon 17-Feb-20 13:13:20

Thank you Delila that was kind of you to say so.

The question is Ready what are the issues facing the CJS in general ? What support structures are in place for all participants - victims, witnesses, accused in general?

I guess if she hadnt been able to afford bail there are medical staff in jail although theyre over stretched and understaffed and people still commit suocide awaiting trail.

Those people arent public figures so maybe it hadnt as much to do with being public as people are claiming. It cant have helped but domestic abusers dont cope well mentally when caught and the street angel veil slips. Thats why a condition of bail is staying away. Its not umcommon for shame to cause a downturn im mental health causing suicide or escalation of violence/murder. They've lost their control. Without media.

Now, the celebs etc "blaming" the CPS and the bail conditions could do some good here and look at the suicide rates in jail with those awaiting trial and lack of nursing and support staff there.. but they wont thats not a fashionable cause

suziewoozie Mon 17-Feb-20 13:22:41

not I wonder how many of the media lovies piling in with their uninformed comments give one ds MN about the appalling conditions of our prison estate or tie mental health services therein

gangy5 Mon 17-Feb-20 13:27:20

I am an old curmudgeon-- - accepted !! and I have to admit that I haven't read read any of this post. At this point, I am extremely fed up with hearing about this unfortunate incident. The worst thing is that TV news programs have thought it so important that it has been at the head of many programs. There are so many more devastating and newsworthy subjects that should be deemed much more important than this.

tickingbird Mon 17-Feb-20 13:28:07

I have done work with prisons and there are many in prison that should be in a mental health facility. They are appalling places and bullying is rife. However, that isn’t the point of this thread.

tickingbird Mon 17-Feb-20 13:31:13

Also CF wasn’t on bail because she could afford it. Our system doesn’t work like that. She wasn’t a risk to anyone, apart from herself, and our prisons are full! There are some truly dreadful criminals out on bail these days I can assure you.

notanan2 Mon 17-Feb-20 13:32:26

TV news programs have thought it so important that it has been at the head of many programs.

I agree. Someone awaiting trial committed suicide. Suicide is always tragic. But the story hasnt expended to look at the overall rates of suicide in those awaiting trial which might actually be a public interest "news" story

notanan2 Mon 17-Feb-20 13:34:43

Amd some minor ones in prison because they cant pay fines and charges.

She was deemed a risk to her ex. It was a bail condition that she made no contact. She breached her bail but still managed to stay out.

suziewoozie Mon 17-Feb-20 14:03:54

Of course she was a risk to others and particularly her partner.

ReadyMeals Mon 17-Feb-20 14:56:45

tickingbird, that could be related to this thread, if fear of prison was one of the things troubling her. I am sure the thought of having to deal with other prisoners must bother people who might face it just as much as simply having to spend time locked away.

Susie42 Mon 17-Feb-20 15:06:02

I find it sad that CF seems to have had no one to turn to for help.

notanan2 Mon 17-Feb-20 15:31:22

This is always said in suicide cases and its so often not true.
Very often people who commit suicide HAVE reached out, HAVE reached for help and HAVE loved ones trying to support them.
All this "just reach out" stuff on social media is guff. Whats needed is investment in psychiatry. Its medicine.

If someone died waiting for cancer treatment nobody would assume that they hadnt saught help and that they had no friend/family support.

I hate those "just reach out" memes/campaigns because my first thought is always "then what?"
If I need psychiatric help its nice that friends/family care but they cannot give me the help I actually need

I feel bed for the grieving family/friends when people assume the deceased had noone to reach out to. Often their loved ones were banging their head against brick walls trying to get them access to psychiatry!

Greymar Mon 17-Feb-20 16:47:44

gangy, I guess that is the trouble with wall to wall news. The media seize on something and it is inescapable for a few days.

ReadyMeals Mon 17-Feb-20 16:58:17

Notanan2, and that is so right. Well it is true that some people kill themselves completely clear-headedly in order to achieve an aim such as ensuring their family get the insurance or to avoid a painful disease. But mostly self-harm and suicide is the outcome of a psychiatric disease. Like with most diseases, the love and support of a family and friends can bring comfort and make it a bit easier, but sometimes with all that AND a skilled psychiatrist, the illness remains intractable and the person dies. Or is kept alive but suffering.

Anniebach Mon 17-Feb-20 17:31:25

This is difficult , but if it helps anyone

My beloved daughter attempted suicide several times and self
harmed, took overdoses, cut wrists .

I listened to her, held her, she loved having me stroke her head even when a little one. I was stroking her head and we
talked of the suicide attempt, she had just come out of hospital again, she said ‘Mum I don’t want to die, I want help’.

The times she was admitted to hospital and I begged them to
help her I was told ‘ we only treat physical illnesses’.

When she did take her life she did want to die, no pills, no
.knife, she went to the river at 5.00am and jumped from the
bridge.

So suicide attempts can be a cry for help but no one who could really help did. I begged for help , was told ‘you know
your daughter has bipolar, we can’t discuss it with you,
patient confidentiality ‘

Annie
That's truly heartbreaking.
You sound like a really lovely mother.
