Got to thinking just now - can we be kind about posters❓

With all this about meanness nowadays on social media how about a little experiment.

I’ve posted.

Can the next person up look at the post above them (about me, to start with) and try to say something nice about the one before? We do ALL have good qualities I’m certain......

It might make for an uplifting thread?

If you can’t (or don’t ‘know’ the poster above to you) leave it and wait. Come back later when you recognise a poster’s style.

Off we go. I’m waiting (in trepidation ha!)

For all those posters, who seem to think I'm a pearl clutching, sensitive soul and over-reacting, there are a number of reasons for my response, which as I have already said, I am not willing to discuss on this forum. It is not my way, to bad mouth a poster.
I have held my tongue up until now, but enough is enough.
Some are so quick to jump in, only knowing one part of a story.
Suffice to say, recently I blocked a poster, who was causing me anxiety.

Those of you who know me, know I always try to be kind and non-controversial, so I will leave you to make up your own mind about the reasons for my perceived sensitivity.
Just in case some of Rufus' fan club think I was the one who sent the nasty PM to him, it certainly wasn't me. I wouldn't waste my time.

So there you have it. Now let's get back to the nice comments on this thread, without the digs or trying to stir things.

Urmonstongran, I'm so sorry that your lovely thread has been derailed.

Jane10 Mon 24-Feb-20 20:56:10

As a member of the Rufus fan club I have no idea what you're on about. Obviously, something has been said somewhere that has upset you Marydoll. Rufus is a cheeky so and so but I don't think he's malicious.

BradfordLass73 Mon 24-Feb-20 20:58:41

Back to the rails !!

Marydoll I haven't read any previous posts yet but I'm sorry there were 'digs'. It seem to be an inherent part of GN, hence the very reason Urmstongran began this thread!

I like Urmstongran - she has a head start because she's from the North, albeit that she now lives elsewhere.
So do I but you can't take The North out of the Lass, thank goodness.

Always sound advice and concilliatory words when appropriate and this thread has been lovely.
Even 'nice' grin

BladeAnnie Mon 24-Feb-20 21:01:32

Marydoll I don't know you very well but you were so kind to me last week when I was having a bit of a moment. Your time and words were so much appreciated x

rafichagran Mon 24-Feb-20 21:31:47

I am not a member of anyones fan club and certainly on here, however I agree with jane10 I dont think *Rufus? is malicious, some of his posts are a bit ribold, but that does not bother me.

Urmstongran Mon 24-Feb-20 22:17:06

Ah Marydoll no need to apologise lovely lady. Not a derailment at all. Just a hiccup - no matter at all.

Dear BradfordLass what a lovely compliment - thank you, really. I’d blush prettily .... except I never have in my life ha!

Callistemon Mon 24-Feb-20 23:10:24

Oh dear MaryDoll I have never known you be anything but kind.

My post about Poms was just trying to explain that taking offence in Australia, particularly in the outback, at being called 'a Pom' would do you no favours. It can be a term of endearment!

Sorry if I offended you.

Marydoll Mon 24-Feb-20 23:59:56

Callistemon, you haven't caused any offence at all.

Callistemon Tue 25-Feb-20 00:01:33

Oh, good.

Rufus2 Tue 25-Feb-20 08:09:32

Pom·mies Australian & New Zealand Offensive Slang. Used as a disparaging term for a British person
Mary Rubbish! smile See Aussie slang post! A term of endearment for English 'persons"!
I've lived here for nearly 50 years so I might know a bit about it! grin

Well, I did pm Rufus, Maw, to see if he was ok
but he never replied
Calli; How many Callis have we got? confused One of you had kindly welcomed me home from hosp. before your post, and now you say I ignored you. sad You know I'm too much of a gentleman to do such a thing! How many sisters have you got?

I always enjoy urmonstons posts and marydoll you cheer my day.

Jane10 Tue 25-Feb-20 08:45:36

Maybe we need an alternative thread to say what we really think about posters. We could have a real slagathon! Could be very therapeutic - but dangerous grin

GrannyLaine Tue 25-Feb-20 09:10:29

Off you go then Jane10 but count me out. I much prefer the spirit of what this thread was supposed to be about.

Jane10 Tue 25-Feb-20 09:20:36

Well you stay on this thread of loveliness. Think I'll roll my sleeves up and head over to the politics ones!! More fun.

Rufus2 Tue 25-Feb-20 13:05:20

something has been said somewhere that has upset you Marydoll. Rufus is a cheeky so and so but I don't think he's malicious
Jane Thank you! You're very discerning; somethings were said, way way back! Silly really!
I'd said something about it being the season of goodwill to all men,, not meant provocatively at all, more like tongue in cheek and Mary D posted a cartoon of a large woman with rolling-pin chasing a diminutive gent; , caption was "but not all men"! I wrongly assumed we were still in tongue-in-cheek mode and remarked that wasn't her DH because he was in long'uns not a kilt which DH would probably be wearing all day around the house Then it dawned that I was the one being chased., but by then she had hit the roof like being on a trampoline and the rest, as they say, is history My PM was blocked, she said, not that it mattered because I"d never dream of using it, but it showed me just how long some people can carry grudges; pops up on any silly occasion! grin
OK Mary! Your version! OoRoo

Megs36 Tue 25-Feb-20 13:22:44

Jane..slagathon! love it, wish I’d thought of it, Maybe thereshould be a post of new words to add to the OED. ????

Marydoll Tue 25-Feb-20 13:35:47

Slightly different version to yours Rufus, but I'm not prepared to discuss it here and play to those posters who are revelling in this.
You know exactly why I (and others) blocked you and also the reasonS why I contacted GNHQ,
Pleae stop playing Mr Innocent and spoiling a gentle thread.
Enough is enough.

Urmstongran Tue 25-Feb-20 13:54:17

Continuing with the objectives of this thread, shall I try to get it back on track?

I nominate some names that might not have come up yet for kind comments ....

Would anyone like to say something positive about:

Pantglas2
MissAdventure
sooziewoozie
jura2
or
Beechnut

Anyone care to move this forward? I think all of us would be delighted to read some more nice comments.
?

Curlywhirly Tue 25-Feb-20 14:01:50

Well the comment by Jane10 - slagathon - really tickled me up?? I do love those posters with a sense of humour (and there are many) and those that don't take themselves too seriously!

MawB Tue 25-Feb-20 14:14:58

“Got to thinking just now - can we be kind about posters❓“

Just that really.

Callistemon Tue 25-Feb-20 14:29:23

I'll start with Pantglas - always very sensible and kind posts

and thanks for seconding what I was saying the other day on another thread Pantglas - no-one else was listening grin
Diolch yn fawr iawn

Jane10 Tue 25-Feb-20 14:52:45

The proposed slagathon thread would be for those we simply can't be kind about!! grin

Urmstongran Tue 25-Feb-20 14:57:17

But we CAN if we try harder Jane10. Everyone has good points!

Pantglas2 Tue 25-Feb-20 15:04:34

Beechnut manages to beat me onto the Good Morning thread most mornings- I reckon it’s because we have darker mornings here in north Wales than she does down Severnside! Always upbeat postings too with kind thoughts for all going through tough times!
