Clype is a fine Scottish word for a grass or telltale.
Elegran is the voice of reason on Gransnet.

If you are interested in words, Rufus, you might also like "clipshear" the Scottish for earwig ( insect order Dermaptera) which are reputed to creep into your ears. It and "clype" are connected linguistically.

I remember a small girl in my class buttonholing the headmaster and earnestly telling him about the misdeeds of a classmate. He thanked her gravely, and waited until she was gone before commenting "Wee clipshear!"

I enjoy your novellas on Mick’s GM thread and we will need those even more now that we have lost the Norfolk tales from Mommawolf after her tragic death last weekend.
