Got to thinking just now - can we be kind about posters❓

With all this about meanness nowadays on social media how about a little experiment.

I’ve posted.

Can the next person up look at the post above them (about me, to start with) and try to say something nice about the one before? We do ALL have good qualities I’m certain......

It might make for an uplifting thread?

If you can’t (or don’t ‘know’ the poster above to you) leave it and wait. Come back later when you recognise a poster’s style.

Off we go. I’m waiting (in trepidation ha!)

Rufus2 this is obviously a very serious thread and I suspect that you and I are the culprits for subverting it. Clearly the forum police will be knocking on our doors soon.
Clype is a fine Scottish word for a grass or telltale.
Elegran is the voice of reason on Gransnet.

Elegran Mon 02-Mar-20 13:12:37

If you are interested in words, Rufus, you might also like "clipshear" the Scottish for earwig ( insect order Dermaptera) which are reputed to creep into your ears. It and "clype" are connected linguistically.

I remember a small girl in my class buttonholing the headmaster and earnestly telling him about the misdeeds of a classmate. He thanked her gravely, and waited until she was gone before commenting "Wee clipshear!"

lemongrove Mon 02-Mar-20 14:09:14

Haha, a clip round the ear needed.
I find Jane10’s posts amusing and never in a sarcastic way, but lightly amusing, the best kind.?
Elegran is a sort of elder statesperson of GN ( in the nicest way) who always posts well balanced and fair comments.

lemongrove Mon 02-Mar-20 14:13:29

Rufus is the joker in the pack......who is obviously a lot younger in his ways than in years. A breath of salty Aussie air
Breezing through our refined GN forum.Fair Dinkum!?

lemongrove Mon 02-Mar-20 14:20:29

BradfordLass always posts the most interesting things about NZ and takes time to really answer others with long well thought out comments.Always kind to others on here and generous in outlook, am very glad that she joined the forum.?

NanKate Mon 02-Mar-20 14:39:05

Thank you Elegran for your wise words. ?

Those who do the sabotaging know who they are. They don’t need to be named.

So back to the real purpose of this thread. Although I rarely post on Soop’s thread that is the place to go when things get tough. Soop and her fellow contributors are genuine kind people who look out for each other.

lemongrove Mon 02-Mar-20 14:53:44

....and a big shout out for NanKate a lovely poster who I have met and is just as nice in person as on the threads.?

Callistemon Mon 02-Mar-20 15:44:06

And let's hear it for Billybob

Whose name always makes me think of The Waltons although there wasn't a Billybob
And now I have an earwig - the Waltons theme tune

Witzend is so creative and finishes what she starts, not like me with so many UFOs

Callistemon Mon 02-Mar-20 15:45:57

It's the naughty step for Rufus and Jane10 - sit still, no giggling or shouting please.

NanKate Mon 02-Mar-20 16:11:26

Lemongrove and billybob ??

Lemongrove in her previous floral persona was great to meet. We could have come across Morse or Endeavour at our meeting place ?

Billybob4491 Mon 02-Mar-20 16:25:08

Thank you Call, felt very uplifted on reading your comment. Had a tough day, husband in hospital very unwell, your kind words gave me a lift.

Urmstongran Mon 02-Mar-20 18:54:01

Ah Billybob all the more reason for this thread! Sorry to hear your husband is poorly and you are having a tough day.

It’s always lovely to hear something kind about ourselves isn’t it? As I said at the beginning we ALL have good points.

Charleygirl5 Mon 02-Mar-20 19:02:24

Billybob so sorry to hear that your DH is very unwell. I hope he is being well cared for and you can sleep at night with all that added stress.

Billybob4491 Tue 03-Mar-20 08:03:24

Thank you very much for kindness shown, he is receiving excellent treatment all down to NHS.

Rufus2 Tue 03-Mar-20 08:12:37

Oh come on Nan, don't be coy. I'm dying to meet these "same old faces". I feel we may have something in common and I'd welcome the chance to extend the hand of friendship, as you did for me soon after I enlisted in GN. smile
Remember when I was the apple of your eye and you acted as DJ at my 91st. virtual birthday bash!? I still have fond memories of that and that is what this thread is all about, isn't it? Ah! memories; I could join in with Barbra if only she would let me! Never mind; I now have all you lovely ladies. well probably not quite all, to console me ! grin
OoRoo

Back to the thread, (after yet another derailment)

Billybob, glad to hear that your DH is improving.

I would like to nominate, Kalu, whom I recently discovered lives very near me.
Her posts are always reasoned and measured and she has been kind and very supportive of me, when I have been struggling. ??

Urmstongran Tue 03-Mar-20 08:41:14

I’d like to say a few words about you dear Marydoll. I love your SOH and I know you struggle daily with poor health and loss of stamina. And yet you are upbeat and your posts are always interesting and amusing when appropriate. I enjoy your novellas on Mick’s GM thread and we will need those even more now that we have lost the Norfolk tales from Mommawolf after her tragic death last weekend.

Your kindness and caring shine through Marydoll ensuring you are one of my favourite posters on these forums!

Urmstongran Tue 03-Mar-20 08:42:28

Anyone care to nominate Charleygirl5?

Grandad1943 Tue 03-Mar-20 09:12:02

I thought I was your favourite poster Urmstongran. I am now very deeply upset. ??

I shall NEVER speak to you again, so there........stamp........stamp. ?

Jane10 Tue 03-Mar-20 09:16:45

Watch it Grandad1943- you'll be in trouble for subverting the loveliness of this thread. Me and Rufus2 will shuffle up and make room for you on the naughty step.

Marydoll Tue 03-Mar-20 09:18:34

Grandad, you are her favourite poster, her favourite male poster! grin and probably mine.
Your posts are always very informative, although I don't always agree with you. wink

Oh dear, I suppose I will be villified for being sexist. blush

Urmstongran Tue 03-Mar-20 09:28:03

Ah Grandad1943 you will notice I said Marydoll was one of my favourite posters. I have a few!
?

Chewbacca Tue 03-Mar-20 09:28:47

I like Urmstongran's posts, I agree with much of what she says and her points of views on many subjects but she articulates them better than me! I think she lives near my neck of the woods too.

Rufus2 Tue 03-Mar-20 09:28:55

Anyone care to nominate Charleygirl5?
Urmston Not me! She might be Charleygirl15 in disguise! grin
I thought you were going to Spain again!? confused Or maybe you're posting from there?
A word of warning! if you ever get to fraternizing with Real Madrid players don't mention you come from Manchester! grin OoRoo

Grandad1943 Tue 03-Mar-20 09:29:35

You are now my favourite posters Marydoll and Jane10. ?

I have now removed Urmstongran from my Christmas card list....so there....?
