We have gas hob, electric oven. Don’t think would ever want to go back to all electric

I have an electric hob and oven. Whenever I use a gas one (at my mum's, or on holidays) I ALWAYS come home with a burn or two and have also been known to catch my sleeve on the lighted gas hob or even my hair! ( I was bending over to put something in the oven with the hob on). I am the Frank Spenser of gas hobs! I also find it easier to adjust the electric hob as it has numbers to adjust it, rather than guess work to the gas going to far up or too far down. It's easier to clean to without the gas burners etc, just a flat top to wipe over. With my electric oven it turns itself off once the timer finishes....perfect if you have had to pop out.

Induction hob, electric oven every time ! I’m so thrilled with my induction hob I’m replacing a gas hob in other abode! Cooking on an induction hob gives you the flexibility of gas, it is much much safer, and you don’t get the grimy resin to clean off the walls! My elderly mother got one first and I’m so relieved, I’d hate her cooking on gas at her age.

PS I am particularly hopeless with traditional electric hobs, I get bored waiting for them to get going then suddenly everything boils over ! I have absolute admiration for anyone who cooks on them !

I love my induction hob. I have also a halogen oven, a micowave and an InstantPot. Love them all - induction is as controllable as gas, cheaper, and very easy to keep clean. Having the halogen oven means that I rarely use the cooker oven and I use the InstantPot most frequently of all. The microwave isn't used to cook meals but is useful in other ways. E.g. my porridge every morning.

I have a gas hob, self cleaning electric oven. I know if I want to change my kitchen I will have to go with an electric hob as gas hobs are being phased out in the next 5 years. Sure I will cope.

Im used to a gas hob and electric oven but we're about to do a kitchen refurb and are considering an induction hob.
The only wobble has been the warnings of possible power cuts during the recent storms - they didnt happen, but it made me think that if we do ever have a powercut we cant even make a cuppa if we go "all electric".

No choice here in the depths of the rural Welsh Marches - all electric freestanding cooker. Our electricity supply would not stretch to a split hob and oven. I remember having a gas hob in the dim & distant past when I was a student and it was brilliant and past electric hobs were pretty pathetic in comparison but we now have an induction hob & it's fantastic, I wouldn't swap.

Riggie I'm all electric with an induction hob and I have a two burner camping stove in caase of a power cut. Can't risk being without a cup of tea. Which reminds me....

My Gas Oven died and whilst waiting for repairs (which never happened so had to get a New one) I bought a little Electric Mini Oven with Hob, I now find I love it and using it more than my New Gas Oven

I love my induction hob because it is as responsive as gas but safer and easier to wipe clean. Electric oven also as it cooks so evenly.

Gas defo, i can see the flame and adjust accordingly. Also very useful in a power cut. I have a whistling kettle for those times, plus you can put the oven on and get some heat in the kitchen if it's cold and your heating doesn't work due to power cut.

I wonder if gas cookers will be phased out eventually, for environmental reasons, as they plan to do for gas boilers.

I was thinking this. But while I have gas heating still the gas hob can stay.

I too like my eye level electric oven. Will never go back to the all in one style with the oven down low

Power cuts are a good point, and an argument against all electric heating

I have an electric fan oven with a ceramic hob - they came with the house. However, I will always hanker after my old gas oven with eye level grill which I felt was more practical.

Induction all the way. Such a treat to cook on, easy to clean and heats stuff up in super quick time. I love mine along with my electric ovens.

I thought I had died and gone to heaven when I bought my induction hob 10 years ago! grin

melp1 Sat 22-Feb-20 16:39:10

Always had gas but changed to electric oven and induction hob 14 years ago, love it, so easy to use and keep clean and the only downside, I had to buy a new set of pans for the hob as my old ones were copper bottomed. Agree with SueDonim better, faster and cleaner.

I have used all electric for over 30 years. I don't like using gas hobs at all now. I always feel anxious I have left the gas on when I use my daughters hob!

Gas Hob and Gas Oven for me - EVERYTIME!

I DO have a Halogen Oven which does the most amazing Roast Chicken - comes out as if it's been done on a Rotisserie.

WOODMOUSE49 Sat 22-Feb-20 21:28:51

Had gas hob and electric fan wall oven. Loved them.

Moved. Now have LPG range - OK but miss the electric fan oven. No mains gas where we are in Cornwall.

Had a range cooker for years with gas hob and electric oven.Never thought I would want anything else but the kitchen company when we moved and had a new one suggested an induction hob.I was very resistant.DH keener.I was persuaded. It's so easy to clean. So much safer.Still thrilled with it after a few years.Still got an electric oven. When DMIL got older she nearly had a bad fire when she left a tea towel near the gas hob.Her dog -a failed guide dog she'd revoked alerted her thankfully.

Washerwoman Sat 22-Feb-20 21:38:42

Meant rehomed. Not revoked !

Love my induction job,it’s so easy to keep clean & I never have to worry about leaving it switched on because it turns its self off if there is no saucepan on it.

Deffo gas hob as well as oven - I've burnt my hand on a recently-switched-off electric plate once too often!

Maggiemaybe Sun 23-Feb-20 09:38:35

I vividly remember my mother getting the palm of her hand stuck on a hot plate - we'd just moved and she hadn't got used to the electric oven. It's been a gas hob for me ever since.
