Please may I join the kitchen crew? I’ve been a lurker for at least a year but thought that I couldn’t be part of the gang as I’m not a granny, grown up kids show no signs of even being bothered about a relationship let alone procreating! They are very happy and content though so I must be thankful.
Little bit about me, I’m mid 50s, still working as a paramedic, married 30 years this year and have 2 adorable dogs, Finn who is a border collie and Milo who is a lab/springer cross.
I may not post a huge amount as the dreaded lurgy is keeping me busy but I love the gentleness and kindness of the kitchen. It always lifts my spirits when I read it.

Pittcity Sat 14-Mar-20 09:05:11

Welcome dizzyblonde
I usually sit in the corner, scoffing cake and observing the goings on quietly. Seem to have a bit more time on my hands atm. So pull up a chair and make yourself at home.

dizzyblonde Sat 14-Mar-20 09:14:11

Did someone mention cake?? I’m supposed to be eating a mostly Mediterranean diet for my tendinitis but I can resist anything but temptation. I’m partial to a nice ginger or fruit cake. Virtually a health food.?

Happy birthday Lins!

Belated happy birthday Maw for yesterday's X

Welcome dizzy.

Going to the Atlantic coast this afternoon with a picnic. Strangely misty here this morning in Brittany. Take care all kitcheners, sending love and TOYA. Xxxx

Bellanonna Sat 14-Mar-20 09:27:05

Welcome, dizzyblonde, I enjoyed reading your first post. I can imagine how the lurgy might be keeping you busy in your occupation. You do a very worthy job, too, I would add.
Like you I tend to read more than I post but I love seeing everyone’s pictures, and reading the encouraging and supportive posts that people give one another.

dizzyblonde Sat 14-Mar-20 09:39:44

Couple of photos of my babies, shy retiring Finn and Milo in his smoking jacket after a very muddy walk. Getting him to sit still is a major task.

Bellanonna Sat 14-Mar-20 09:41:33

Lovely dogs, dizzy. I like the names, too!

annsixty Sat 14-Mar-20 09:45:35

May I introduce a rather risqué topic this morning.
Look away if sensitive.
I received lots of information booklets on Thursday from the physio and got them out to read through with my lunchtime cuppa yesterday.
I find it far more restrictive than when I had my TKR as anything with bending is a Nono.
One page was a timetable of when normal activities may be resumed such as length of time on crutches to swimming, gardening, golf etc.
No 20 on the list and very last was sex, the directive was to “Ask your consultant”.
As an 82 year old “live alone” as my friends and I prefer to call ourselves, what do you suggest I ask him?

GrannyGravy13 Sat 14-Mar-20 09:49:35

Welcome dizzyblonde this is a wonderful kitchen full of empathy, kindness and "gentle naughtiness"grin

I am feeling sorry for myself, we were meant to go to my younger sister and brother -in-laws this morning and stay till tomorrow night. Unfortunately I have woken up with the beginnings of a chest infection, I am asthmatic so know all the signs but...................if GrandpaGravy asks what my symptoms are one more time I will need to borrow the frozen leg of lamb not sure who in the kitchen has at the momentgrin

Will pop back later to let you know how himself has got on with the shopping (he had a list)

Welcome dizzy I love dogs and yours look adorable.

Ann maybe if he could provide or suggest a partner for you?

Moaning Minnie flew out of the door today. I will have another go later at picking up her food.

It is has been raining here- otherwise a normal day.

Greyduster Sat 14-Mar-20 09:54:35

Hello the kitchen! Welcome dizzyblonde - you will find us a gentle, most accommodating crew!

My iron has given up the ghost just as I am allowed to do the ironing (tee hee!) so more work in the garden was the order of the day yesterday. The grass has had its first cut following mower repair, and it looks like a bad haircut, there is so much moss in it! It will have to do for now though. When the neighbours start staring at it, we’ll see if we can improve on it!

We were supposed to be minding GS yesterday evening as his parents were going out, but they cancelled, so I had to make do with Face Time. It looks like this is going to be the shape of things to come. Hugs are already off the menu☹️! He had some extremely good exam results this week so Grandad will have to put his hand in his pocket, I think!

With the mention of Wright’s Coal Tar soap, I have to say that DH uses it daily; it has been his go to for some years. I saw a lovely Royal Doulton soap dish at an auction, commissioned by Wright’s in around 1920, and I got involved in the bidding for it, but it went for well over my budget. I’m still on the look out for one though!

Izabella it is very good to see you back; I hope your equilibrium has been restored after the verbal attack you suffered. I had a wry smile when you mentioned Chinese opera. During our time in Singapore we lived in a block of apartments that overlooked a Chinese village and the annual visit of the Xiqu would send us diving for the ear plugs when they set up their stage and sound system. I suppose they would have felt the same way about our opera as we felt about theirs, but it did go on well into the night for about a week and we always breathed a big sigh of relief when it stopped! Acrobatic, spectacular and colourful if only you could have turned the volume down!

N&G I hope that Grampy is still standing and the Leg of Lamb is safely back in the freezer?. Much as I adore DH he can engender murderous intentions in me at times, especially when he steadfastly refuses to address the issues around his hearing or severe lack of, but fortunately, I wouldn’t have the strength to dig a hole big enough now!

Well I suppose I had better get on and seize the day. I will look in later. TOYA!

Greyduster Sat 14-Mar-20 09:57:14

I should get your diary out, Ann, and casually ask him what he is doing any night next week!!?

Is he good looking? I think it was Carillion who said her DH’s surgeon was a dead ringer for Justin Trudeau.
Go girl! gringrin

Greyduster Sat 14-Mar-20 10:00:26

Ooh, and Happy Birthday Lins! Enjoy your day!??

Oh, tell me about it, as they say!

NanaandGrampy Sat 14-Mar-20 10:26:56

Morning all!

I have recovered my good spirits and Grampy lives to fight another day ?

Happy Birthday Lins ???? have a great day !

Welcome Dizzyblonde , lovely dogs ! And Pittcity step away from the cake !!

You made me laugh ann - I suggest you give your consultant a saucy wink and say ‘ how about it big boy’? ??

Grey we are in the same boat as you, still debating whether to risk carrying on as normal and having the small boys up next weekend. If this is to be as long drawn out affair as I suspect maybe better to bite the bullet now before travel is restricted.

GG , the leg of lamb is on hand if you need it ! Hope you feel better quickly .

I am off to the West Wing this morning as I feel Grampy has a better chance of making it through this if we are not in each other’s pockets 24/7 ?

Happy day all x

annsixty Sat 14-Mar-20 10:28:21

Actually he is quite handsome, Asian as most of them are.
Very charming and beautifully mannered.
I did google him and his bedside manner was commented on by most posters.
Sadly he could be my S, actually younger than my S.

kittylester Sat 14-Mar-20 10:32:18

I posted first thing this morning - should you see it sailing past in the wther please try to catch it- it was particularly amusing - not!!

I'm sorry I somehow missed your birthday maw. I hope you enjoyed your day and have a great day on Sunday!

It was also DSil's 39th birthday and DGS3's 13th. He and 10 friends are going to the pictures and then coming home for Pizza. They were allowed to choose which film. It cause much hilarity on our family thread when DD1 said they had opted for Military Wives. grin DD keeps checking that the really do know what it's about

corner, a very sad day for you yesterday. Take it easy today.flowers

We are finding it weird since our next door neighbour died about 3 weeks ago. We share a drive and often used to bump into him on our way out or in (not literally!!) And, his car is sitting on the drive. sad

N&G, I too have a clone of your husband! He is like a small boy taking things apart to see how they work. Luckily, he can usually put them back together. There was the once with my niece's very expensive stair gate but we'll gloss over that! grin

Ann, grin

DD3 found out yesterday that her planned Las Vegas wedding will have to cancelled. She is relieved but her partner isnt too chuffed. I am relieved too as we were having the Wondrous Wolfie while they were away and what if they couldnt get back!! shock

Many happy returns lins. Have a lovely day.

Welcome dizzyblond, dud you bring cake?

TOYA .

Galen Sat 14-Mar-20 10:55:40

I’ve just been in tears!
Why?
I listened to a recording of Beethoven’s ode to joy performed by a flash mob.
They were all so joyous and all I could do was cry for all we have lost.

annsixty Sat 14-Mar-20 11:15:21

kitty so sad for your D.
Alas we will be hearing the same thing over and over.
Plans made for months destroyed in minutes and so much money lost.
The financial implications of all this is mind boggling.

Greyduster Sat 14-Mar-20 12:35:02

Bellanonna, this morning - DH: “What are you having for breakfast?” Me: “Special K”. DH: “what cake do you mean?”?‍♀️

soop Sat 14-Mar-20 12:50:06

A warm welcome dizzyblond I have chosen a comfortable chair for you next to Pittcity . She is a kndly lady who will happily share cake with you. The rest of this lot can be a bit pushy whenever cake is mentioned. We are happy to have your company. We all love pet photos and Fynn and *Milo will be hanging in our hall of fame.

Happy belated birthday Maw.

Happy 65th birthday Lins We hope that you have a lovely celebration. flowers wine

Galen I shared that wonderful 'Ode to Joy' posted on Facebook. In fact, I've listened to it many times at full volume and it is perfect in every sense. The expressions on the faces of the spectators made me smile. Fabulous!

soop Sat 14-Mar-20 12:56:27

Thank you for your post, ann. It made me and MacSporran grin. It appears that Justin T is flavour of the month. So...now you know what this lot have in mind.

kitty To have to postpone a wedding certainly is a buggeration. This virus will, in time, have run it's costly course. In the meantime we have little option other than to do our bit to protect ourselves and others. I've a feeling that normal service won't be resumed any time soon.
