What’s the first single you ever bought?

Confession - I can’t actually remember mine - though I do remember the first single I ever owned...Puppy Love by Donny Osmond (and I was most peeved because my brother got Long Haired Lover from Liverpool by Jimmy Osmond and I’d have much rather had that grin)

I have never bought a single, but I think the first (of very few) albums that I bought was Bobbie Gentry and Glen Campbell's, 'Gentle on my Mind'.

My first single was Let's Dance by Chris Montez. Whenever I hear it, which is rarely, it conjures up a picture of the red and cream Dansette record player, a Christmas present that my brother and I had to share.

Also puppy love by Donnie Osmond! There’s definitely a few of us on here.

David Essex - Rock on.

Livin' Doll--Cliff Richard. Lonnie Donegan's records after that.

Speedy Gonzales sang by Pat Boone ????
My children and grandchildren continue to think my choice of music is hilarious

My brother bought Perfidia and one by Long John Baldry.

Satisfaction by The Rolling Stones. I still love that song today!

stoolballgirl Mon 09-Mar-20 15:55:01

it was actually an album - David Cassidy Live - I was mad about him, David Essex, and to a lesser degree Donny Osmond!

I cant remember the first one I bought myself, but the first one I owned was Ginny Come Lately by Brian Hyland that my Dad bought for me when I was 9. I still have it and it was the first record I played on the new turntable my son bought me last Christmas.

Like Bbarb, Rock Around the Clock. One of my daughters broke it about 40 years ago, so I went out and bought a Bill Haley and the Comets LP.

I think my first was Jackson Five - Ben. Made me cry.

My first single was bought for me by my then boyfriend. It was True by Spandau Ballet. My love of them lasted longer than he did! grin

Hello lurkers, how lovely to hear from you.

Just to answer the question, my first record was Cathy’s Clown, saved up from my paper round money

Please feel free to join in, this place is full of lovely Grans, and a few Gramps too

Think it was the New Seekers, I’d Like to Teach the World To Sing. They were the first live group I ever saw and the tickets were 50p each, what a bargain smile

Silence is golden ,I still listen to it now and again. Brings back happy memories , first boyfriend,my own bedroom after having to share with my parents untill I was 15 as the house was so small and 2 older brothers. I thought I was in Heaven .

My first was the Springfields' Bambino, still a Christmas favourite of my local Over 50s choir - before I inroduced it to them, none of them knew it.

Love Me Do by the Beatles. I still have it along with my whole Beatles collection of originals. Brilliant times.

annsixty Mon 09-Mar-20 17:34:38

I have never been overly interested in music so haven’t bought many but I do remember the first single,
It was Freddie and the Dreamers, I think it was You were made for me.
It was a present for the little boy who lived next door to us, he loved them.
