What’s the first single you ever bought?

Confession - I can’t actually remember mine - though I do remember the first single I ever owned...Puppy Love by Donny Osmond (and I was most peeved because my brother got Long Haired Lover from Liverpool by Jimmy Osmond and I’d have much rather had that grin)

Itchycoo park by the Small Faces when it was re-released in 1975. I loved the song, didn't understand what it was about shock!

Itchycoo park was a park in Dagenham/Barking where you could buy drugs. Which is why none of us understand what it's about grin

Saturday night at the movies by the Drifters

It was Uptight Outasight by Stevie Wonder. It was the start of a life long love affair with soul music and it’s still one of my favourite songs.

I think it was "I was made to love her" by the then Little Stevie Wonder. I still like his music.

I was given a record player for my 11th birthday, combined with a present for passing the 11 plus. This was 1958 and I bought 3 singles:

Apple Blossom Time by Rosemary June
The Little Drummer Boy
Slow Boat to China by Emile Ford and the Checkmates.

Next was Baby Face by Little Richard and then Are You Lonesome Tonight by Elvis

Another long time lurker raising her head above the parapet!!!! I was about 7 or 8 and my lovely Nan bought me Mott the Hoople's Roll Away The Stone. First proper LP was Meatloaf and Bat out of Hell. I'm loving this thread as I love music.

The first single I bought was one by The Sweet. I can't remember what it was called but I bought it about 1972 ish.

Smileless2012 Mon 09-Mar-20 19:54:23

I can’t remember the first one I bought, but the first single I remember playing was Penny Lane by the beetles. I think my Mum bought it when we first got a stereogram, I was about 10, can’t remember if we had a record player before that!

Fran3669 Mon 09-Mar-20 20:09:29

Substitute by Clout

First album was Standing on a Beach by The Cure

I still have both although I don’t have anything to play them on; I’ve since downloaded both the single and the album and still listen to them.

Smileless2012 Mon 09-Mar-20 20:11:24

We bought a record player/CD and tape player 3 years ago Fran when we moved. We were going to dump our extensive vinyl collection but are really pleased we kept them all.

WoodLane7 Mon 09-Mar-20 20:22:04

I used to love to go to the record stall at the market on a saturday to choose my next record

Hi, I'm a lurker ... have posted once before but always seem to leave it too late! Here goes -

First record I bought was an EP of Cliff Richard's Summer Holiday. My Gran thought he was a bad influence and shouldn't be allowed on the tv! I thought he was wonderful (I was very young).
