What’s the first single you ever bought?

Confession - I can’t actually remember mine - though I do remember the first single I ever owned...Puppy Love by Donny Osmond (and I was most peeved because my brother got Long Haired Lover from Liverpool by Jimmy Osmond and I’d have much rather had that grin)

Heartbreak Hotel by Elvis. All Elvis’s early singles were amazing but I couldn’t afford to buy them all.

The first single I bought was a Woolworths cover version of Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini, I still have it, I think the singer was called Paul Rich. I didn`t even have a record player at the time, I was 16, played it at my friend`s house, got my first record player for my 19th birthday, the first single I bought after that was Cliff Richard singing When the Girl in Your Arms is the Girl in Your Heart.

I can tell that a lot of you are my age by the singles you’ve mentioned that I know all the words to.

Since we are mentioning LP’s, my first LP, cost me £2/10, was the Carpenters Greatest Hits. Her voice was amazing..

Still like his voice now. Also like you a great fan of Adam Faith and The Everley Brothers. We obviously have great taste!

Poetry In Motion by Johnny Tillotson, bought with the remains of my first weeks wages after giving mum 3/4 of it for my keep.
I can see the shop in my mind's eye, just opposite the local cinema.
I received a new Dansette record player ( cream blue and grey leatherette) for Christmas so that record was the first to be played.
There was coffee bar about 1/4 mile from my home - Bobby's, it was called and it was painted yellow with high stools at the counter, banquette seating and a juke box.
Happy days grin ?? ☕?

I used to sing in a mixed band and when I auditioned (at Crane's music store in Liverpool) I was asked to sing harmony to a song of my choice which was Cathy's Clown by the Everly bros. ??

Many years ago they were top of the bill at The Cliffs Pavillion here in Southend. The support act was Jimmy Hendricks. It was very embarrassing for Dave De etc as Jimmy was on first and 99% of the audience were there to see him so when they finished their set the audience clearly didn't want them to stop playing and certainly didn't want to see Dave Dee.

I think it was “Groovy Kind of Love”
(& it was well-played, lol).
