Oh and I agreed some years ago that the amount of money we spent on food shopping was outrageous and the subsequent waste was not acceptable. So we overhauled our shopping habits. Making a list, checking the cupboards before we left to shop, using leftovers, planning meals, all the good stuff. The amount of money and waste saved was amazing. Great, we were both on board.

Fast forward a number of years to retirement.

Today we have a food shop coming mid-afternoon. Cue OH scanning the fridge for something for lunch. He decides that he just must have a particular lettuce. He just cant have lunch today without his lettuce. So into the car he gets and drive the mile and a half to the local shop and comes back with a pack of lettuce plus a number of other items(all of which will turn up in the shopping this afternoon).

So now we have double salad in the fridge by tea time, most of which he just wont fancy and will end up wasted.

Would divorce be in order here??

Miss Adventure shouldn’t that be, ‘kos you love him...’ ?

Yeah I’d divorce him if he can’t get a grip over a bit of lettuce really !

I usually do our weekly shop on a Friday n way home from work only to find that OH has also shopped and brought home doughnuts, cakes, crisps, choc etc. All of the stuff that I probably wouldn't buy. Do you think he's trying to tell me something?? grin

MissAdventure Thu 12-Mar-20 23:46:34

"Why", you may ask.
Cos you love him. smile

Leaf him alone and let that be the endive the matter.

MissAdventure Thu 12-Mar-20 23:30:22

Only you can decide if it's a crime worthy of divorce.

Don't lettuce influence you.

glammagran grin

Is he a slug?!?!!

glammagran Thu 12-Mar-20 20:13:34

Do you think you’ll romaine with him petunia? Cos I think I’d certainly be giving him the iceberg treatment.

Why do men do this I carefully check cupboards, fridge and make a list of what we need (would love to go shopping alone).
Since retirement he insists on coming with me, it now takes twice as long and he constantly argues about what we need ie although I know we have the items at home he insists we haven't and buys them. My pantrys heaving with tinned/dry goods. At least we'll OK if we have to isolate.[grin}

A few random executions would buck up wasteful people.

She said she was, Mini in the thread title.

MiniDriver56 Thu 12-Mar-20 16:47:52

Petunia, you are obviously joking! Surely?

POGS Thu 12-Mar-20 15:54:27

Divorce him he's a rubbish shopper.

My hubby always gets given a ' FREE ' bottle of whickey for every loaf of bread he buys. Hmm hmm

Phloembundle Thu 12-Mar-20 15:36:22

Greciangirl -- They had a food order being delivered later that day, but hubby couldn't wait. He wanted lettuce NOW.

Camelotclub Thu 12-Mar-20 15:30:51

I've got some withered brown parsnips you can have. Mmmm, parsnip and lettuce soup. Not even Heston could do anything with that.

Camelotclub Thu 12-Mar-20 15:29:29

Bradford
Your lawyer loves spring onions?

Greciangirl Thu 12-Mar-20 15:25:25

If he had previously bought lettuce, then why did either of you buy it again later on that day.

I don’t get it. Silly!

paddyanne Thu 12-Mar-20 14:18:43

use the leaves as wraps for shredded meats and veg with chilli sauce or soy ,its healthy and cheaper than bread

pamdixon Thu 12-Mar-20 13:46:48

lettuce sandwiches (without the bread) till he's eaten it all up then go to Plan B.......

LJP1 Thu 12-Mar-20 13:34:31

Make lettuce soup. It is a very pretty colour.

Good luck.

Phloembundle Thu 12-Mar-20 13:20:13

Nannan2 Thu 12-Mar-20 11:34:33

Yes definitely,i must admit though,i too buy 'healthy/salad items' with good intentions then they lurk in fridge till out of date as they look not very tasty? it'l save u stock piling.

Quizzer Thu 12-Mar-20 11:21:53

Just feed him salad, three meals a day until it is used up!
