Lots of people are cleaning like they never have before.

The shops are peaceful.

People are not spluttering in public.

People smile and nod as a greeting (not the grubby grab).

Welcome back GabriellaG54 !

You have been missed by many on here.

Urmstongran well done

However, it is easy to hit the wrong one and I always have to think which way the accent goes, is it aigu or grave?

As an RAF daughter - in the early sixties I was taught what to do in the event of a nuclear attack. I’ve spent decades being quietly anxious about that attack especially as more and more countries have a nuclear capability. Never would I have imagined it would be a pandemic from China that would be the bigger worry! All those wasted years of the wrong worry. And ...... doesn’t this put all the other petty things we are bombarded with on a daily basis - into some sort of perspective??? So yes - hooray to any positive thoughts please.

Call me a nutcase if you want (I will happily take it), but however dire a situation is, I am convinced there are silver linings to be found.

And I am definitely not ignoring the terrible situations some people are in.
I also feel everything happens for a reason.

There is a message for us as humankind...ignore it at our peril.

I agree with travelsafar, my husband has COPD and is an insulin dependent diabetic. I need to hear of people with these
complaints surviving this virus.

And at least it’s stopped everyone arguing about blooming Brexit! That has to be a plus. This is uniting us as we are all in it together

GabriellaG54 Fri 13-Mar-20 13:20:19

Many thanks for the welcome, JenniferEccles ???

Grammaretto Fri 13-Mar-20 13:22:30

Surely life is only worth living if we can laugh occasionally or at least smile!
Nice to see you back posting GabriellaG
I can't do accents on my laptop , only on my phone.
I think there is a character button but I don't know where to find it.

GabriellaG54 Fri 13-Mar-20 13:23:55

Alexa my Oneplus 7 pro does it all by itself. It recognises the language you type in without you having to alter the keyboard. shockgrin

GabriellaG54 Fri 13-Mar-20 13:26:46

Haven't used my laptop in years. It's now officially a dinosaur.
I use my phone for absolutely everything, banking included.

GabriellaG54 Fri 13-Mar-20 13:28:12

Forgot...thanks Grammaretto ???

Callistemon Fri 13-Mar-20 13:28:24

Grammaretto Fri 13-Mar-20 13:33:55

I can't do banking on my phone. So where is this character list?

Lucca Fri 13-Mar-20 13:37:32

In case anyone thinks I am a total misery, wet blanket or whatever here is something that made me cry laughing :
(Spoiler alert you need to be familiar with Aldi to appreciate it)

In light of recent panic buying UK supermarkets are imposing limits on Certain purchases :
Dunnes: 2 hand sanitisers, 24 toilet rolls max.

Tesco: 1 Hand sanitiser, 18 toilet rolls & 2kg rice.

Super Valu: 12 rolls toilet paper, 1Kg rice.

Aldi: 2 Trumpets, 1 diving suit & a MIG welder.

Callistemon Fri 13-Mar-20 13:37:52

I have a tablet
If I hold my finger on the required vowel a box appears with a selection of vowels with accents

You are welcome GabriellaG54

Not really lighthearted, but this is the one and only time that I'm ^pleased ^that I can't afford to go on holiday.

Millie22 Fri 13-Mar-20 13:42:13

Lucca
You're so right only in Aldi!

sandwichgeneration Fri 13-Mar-20 13:44:26

Shops are not empty in South London. Quite the reverse. It is worse than the queues at Christmas and there is less stock available on the shelves as selfish people stockpile.

Plenty of spluttering to be heard as well.

4allweknow Fri 13-Mar-20 13:44:36

I have no fear of actually being in a plane but do have concerns about mixing with all and sundry at an airport. People are still flying from round the world into the UK for a stopover. Plans for 3 weeks time on hold and I'm only flying within the UK - hopefully.

Dec46 Fri 13-Mar-20 14:01:41

I love Aldi and especially the staff in my local store.I'm off to buy a Diving Suit whilst I can.

Silver Lining for me is it's making me get more organised in my life and home.

grannyactivist Fri 13-Mar-20 14:05:21

Lucca ???? wanders off to check I have a sufficiency of trumpets.

Alexa Fri 13-Mar-20 14:21:03

A brand new trumpet will always be useful sometime so store one in your loft why not.

Oopsminty Fri 13-Mar-20 14:25:20

Gabriella!

Lovely to see you.
