Just made a hasty retreat from lidl as the manager there was trying to limit the amount of toilet tissue some one wanted to buy!
The customer looked in their 20's. And seemed very upset.

Maybe he was shopping for him self and an oap?

SirChenjin Sun 15-Mar-20 14:26:47

How many rolls were they attempting to buy?!

EllanVannin Sun 15-Mar-20 14:44:56

Coles in Australia are handing out 12 roll packs to each customer rather than them piling them in their trolleys and leaving others without.

Shelves will be filled again as there are still deliveries. Corner shops have plenty.

I don't know about " herd immunity " there's plenty of herd mentality.

Ellan....very true!

High time supermarkets restricted toilet rolls, pasta and rice and soaps to so much per customer.

lemongrove Sun 15-Mar-20 14:48:08

Panic buying would then come to an end, meant to add.

The herd getting tied up in toilet roll and how much rice and pasta can you eat anyway!

Dottynan Sun 15-Mar-20 14:55:30

The shops won't be selling very much when this is over and everybody is still using the toilet rolls etc they have piled up in their spare rooms

Some sort of rationing by the supermarkets urgently needed.

I’ve just been to our local (relatively small) Asda . I always do a batch ( mince based) meal on a Sunday afternoon ( it keeps me busy) and fill little cartons for DH and I for during the week , DS and his family, my father and DD and her little one.

No mince to get , no tinned tomatoes , no tomato purée or Passata . My family will be very disappointed .

Any ideas for a cheap batch meal gratefully received . smile

gillybob Sun 15-Mar-20 15:04:34

I totally agree BlueSky .

SirChenjin Sun 15-Mar-20 15:09:16

I could (and did) buy plenty of mince, tomato purée and passata in my locals Sainsbury’s today gillybob but no chicken or ready made pasta sauce. I’d happily send you some! The situation across the country is so inconsistent it seems.

gillybob Sun 15-Mar-20 15:11:59

I could send you a chicken SirChenjin there were a few of those left . confused

gillybob Sun 15-Mar-20 15:14:54

I’m laughing thinking about my DGS (10) last week robbing my pantry of “stuff for his (famous) homemade pizzas“ . He took the last of my Tom purée , tinned tomatoes and sweet corn . grin

Many people at Sainsburys were obviously shopping for others, I had quite a wait for the person in front of me who had split the conveyor belt into two separate shops.

I've just phoned my 82 year old aunt and asked if there was anything I could do for her long distance. I suggested she write out her shopping list in readiness, if the lock down is enforced. She was very reluctant, she does like to go to the shop and choose especially if there are offers, then they deliver as she is only over the road.

I wonder if the permit system will be introduced here.

gillybob, I often make batches of sweet potato and red pepper curry, serve with rice/natural yoghurt/nan bread. Also thai green curry, as I'm veg I use Quorn pieces, it is delicious, Quorn mince is great if you can get it, but don't allow the sauce to soak in for long before you cook.

last night I bought up 50% of local Aldi toilet roll stock ! I did leave the other pack on their shelf though.

Manmar2 Sun 15-Mar-20 15:21:56

Dec46 why?

Dec46 Sun 15-Mar-20 15:29:48

Manmar2 do you mean why did I leave 1 pack on the shelf?

Or have you misunderstood what I meant?
They had 2 packs of toilet rolls and I bought one of them ie 50% of the stock they had in the store at the time.I left 1 pack behind which was 50% of their stock.
When the next person bought the remaining pack they would then have decimated Aldi's stock by 100%

SirChenjin Sun 15-Mar-20 15:36:52

There’s a market for a food swap I’m sure gilly!

I think Dec meant there were 2 packets left on the shelf - she bought one, which left one packet for another customer smile

Manmar2 Sun 15-Mar-20 15:40:03

Oh god stupid me! Sorry! My Sainsbury’s has been stripped bare of loo roll and other food and it’s totally selfish.
SirC - thanks!smile
