Just that really - please share one thing that you’re planning for the day to cheer yourself up in these trying times.

Could be anything from a bar of chocolate, glass of something lovely, arranging some freshly cut flowers from your garden or baking a cake to a freshly made bed, or even painting your toenails!

Doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks (DH has just informed me I’m daft) as long as it puts a smile on your face!

So to start this off - yesterday I changed our bed and had the best night’s sleep! Today I’m going to make some banana bread as they’re really mottled in the fruit bowl - can’t tell you how many brownie points that gets in this house!

Potting shed for me as it's mild but damp and I want to get my cosmos seeds started. Also have a lovely washing nearly complete. Plan to visit the supermarket early evening when it's 'usually' quiet.

It was my husband's birthday on Sunday and we went to my daughter's for Sunday dinner. I have been weight watching and doing really well so I treated myself to some jam roly poly and custard and it was gorgeous!

I've just finished reading the last 4 chapters of a book I started on my holiday last September! Never seemed to find the time until now! Very satisfying.

Hello everyone. It’s my first day on this site so reading everyone’s comments might be my treat. However this morning he and I went for a lovely lonely walk across fields, streams and muddy patches, past sheep blissfully unaware and swathes of daffodils. It seemed totally surreal to return to the World at One.....

How lovely!

It's lovely to read how everybody is spending their day, I live in Spain, we are in lockdown, so cannot leave the house unless vital, to go food shopping, doctor, hospital, farmacia. Only 1 person per car all shops apart from food, pharmacy closed, bars restaurants closed. No meeting friends etc.
Ive been keeping busy, made samosas yesterday, today made a wholemeal loaf.
Catching up with household chores, keeping in touch with friends on facebook and whatsapp.
This is going to last at least 15 days, likely longer.
You have to have proof of where you are going or have been to show the police if you are stopped.
I totally agree with this, but will bet boring after a week

Lupatria Tue 17-Mar-20 16:45:13

my treat was to meet a friend at our local community cafe - we do this every week - a coffee and a toasted teacake and lovely chatting.
several other over-70s there as well.
the virus isn't around much where we live so we are continuing with our normal lives until we're forced to stay in.
more afraid for our mental health if we can't go out than of catching the virus.
read today that jeremy corbin will not be staying indoors (he's 70) but will continue doing his duty. it's not often that i agree with him - but i do on this point.

Mmmm lovebeigecardigans1955, what biscuits can you make with condensed milk. I’d love to have the recipe! X

gillyknits Tue 17-Mar-20 17:06:12

Chocolate! ?

Flakesdayout Tue 17-Mar-20 17:18:57

Grannyshark - I think I would like to be a blissfully unaware sheep xx

I enjoyed a walk around the village. I think it is important to keep as fit as possible and I wasn't close to anyone. (I only saw three people walking dogs and a neighbour in her car who put the window down and shouted, "Are you OK?", me ,"yes, are you?" That's the extent of social interaction at the moment. I left a bag of dvds on the door knob of a friend who has an elderly husband. He has been unwell since Christmas so they have more or less been isolated since then.

Welcome to 7wistful and Grannyshark!

How nice to hear everyone's joyful moments. I envy the garden photos and muscari pottery! My muscari are just starting to pop up; we live quite far north and still it is quite cold.

I have heard some spring birdsong this morning, so that was my joyful moment. Making a point to stop to look and listen to nature around us.

I got DH to clear and put away all his tools that were on the kitchen worktop.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 17-Mar-20 17:52:59

This is how DH and dog are spending the late afternoon in our holiday cottage. Both of them gently snoring

Truddles Tue 17-Mar-20 18:04:28

I cleaned my garden shed, rearranged it and cleaned everything in it. Tidied my little back yard. Came in for a coffee and a cuddle with my cats; received an email saying I’ve been laid off. Spoke to husband; chances are I won’t be able to go to Canada to spend summer with him as flights are being cancelled. Going to shop for bottle of wine and some chocolate (plenty on the shelves). Stuff the diet and stuff being good; I am going to get pissed and watch a comedy or a horror film And eat chocolate.

SusieFlo It is a bit far for you to go to have a walk on the beach, when i used to live in the centre of the country i used to "walk" on the beach by using Google street view smile

grannypiper Tue 17-Mar-20 18:09:16

truddles I’m with you. I have a nice bottle of Medoc waiting

Ninarosa Tue 17-Mar-20 18:21:31

Good to read people are using their mottled bananas because as we all know,
Time flies like an arrow and fruit flies like a banana!

craftyone Tue 17-Mar-20 18:21:49

my treat was walking around my small potager garden and every one of my many fruit bushes, trees and plants is showing signs of life. I was so chuffed esp with the rhubarb because I hacked a piece off the one on my allotment and bunged it in here when I took over my new house

lovebeigecardigans1955 Tue 17-Mar-20 18:22:51

@BluebellGran - this is the recipe I found. It was metric so I transferred most of the measurements into Imperial which this old fogey prefers.

FUDGE COOKIES
4oz butter
2oz granulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla essence
200g condensed milk (not all the tin I found)
6oz all purpose flour - not sure if this meant SR so I added a biggish pinch of baking powder
pinch of salt if butter not salted
PREHEAT THE OVEN - 160 fan
Beat butter and sugar together in electric mixer. Add flour and salt, beat until smooth. Add flour and salt.
Put on baking parchment in big blobs about 2" apart - they will spread quite big. Bake at 160 fan for around 12-15 minutes. Cool on the paper and transfer to rack after about 5 mins.
I found mine took a bit longer and were a bit soggy in the middle but edible. I've been naughty and eaten at least 4 of them. Bang goes the waistline. Still alive.

Oopsadaisy3 Tue 17-Mar-20 18:26:33

When do we put the condensed milk in , after the flour?

grannymary Tue 17-Mar-20 18:37:07

A lovely slice of rose water and vanilla sponge from a local cafe at lunchtime

Bluecat Tue 17-Mar-20 18:56:07

As I won't be seeing anyone but my husband for months, I am thinking of growing a beard.... smile
