Slipping into slobbishness

I’m very sleepy and tempted to go to bed without a bath. Nobody’s going to get closer than 6’ to me anytime soon so why not wear the same clothes three days running, leave my hair unbrushed and leave my bed unmade?
Will I turn into a stinking slob and eventually stop brushing my teeth, changing my pants and cleaning the bathroom? Is slobbishness something we could all slide into if not vigilant?
I’ve now frightened myself and off to run my bath!

water meadow. I am also feeling the temptation to sink into slobbishness too. Especially as husband has been trying it for some time now. I have told myself to compromise and shower/wash hair every other day instead of every day. I’m hoping changing clothes will also fall into that routine too as I can always smell whatever I have cooked the day before, when I put them on next morning.

I haven’t changed my routine with washing etc and still paint my nails. My biggest problem is eating things in between meals. Need to stop it!

We had a Zoom session from four different countries for Mothers' day. Brilliant! A letter in the paper today said: "Now we will learn the real colour of everyone's hair". Mine will look like a Brillo pad.

I think we're all going to end up with boobs down to our knees after this! .....

And that's just the men!

Washed my hair. Fancy! Still no bra tho

grannybuy Mon 23-Mar-20 16:27:49

I did do the ironing still in PJ's this morning. I do usually have bath/shower/wash then dress after breakfast, so will try to stick to it. Wearing my old ' house ' clothes of course. It's the house that's gone to the dogs! I assume no one will be coming, and if they do won't need to be invited in, so having a manyana attitude.

Merryweather Mon 23-Mar-20 16:39:08

I’m still in my pjs. I have home schooled the girls this morning and thought why bother getting dressed. I will have a bath later and put on clean pjs, wash my hair etc. Vest top and pj shorts is so comfy. My boobs will be down to my ankles I’m so pregnant. Comfort is key in these last few days surely? As are leisurely baths and naps.

Im still bathing every day but no make up and bra and im not styling my hair its a blessed relief especially the bra
My hair is due to be coloured on Friday, but have decided that in the 12 weeks my colour will be more or less grown out, so will embrace my grey

Not an easy thing for some, but getting into some semblance of a routine is what's keeping me sane. Things like pretending there's somewhere to go every morning...... bed to be made first thing, then shower and dress comfortably, (yet well enough to be surprised on 'skype' by anyone). After breakfast, housework and laundry come next but nothing crazy. I prefer to tackle things that haven't been done in a long time (washing slipcovers, or reorganizing the broom/cleaning supply closet). DH and I both have our hobbies. Mine are crocheting and painting in oils or pastels, so I toggle that with all of the above (never said routine couldn't be broken).

The mundane housework is where we've become most lax, especially when it comes to tidying up or keeping up with the dishes in the sink or emptying the dishwasher. These days, we mitigate our fear and uncertainty with the occasional squabble. Last night was such an occasion...... our sitting room looked like a bomb hit it. I was unhappy and DH couldn't care less. I went to bed late sorting out the mess.

The rest of the time we listen to music, do crossword and sudoku puzzles, read, play chess or cards with each other (if DH's in the mood) or by myself on line. In the evening, we watch the news (must stay informed), talk with our children and other family members by phone and watch movies and re-runs on TV. At any time during the day, I can also connect right here with all my Gransnet friends.

In Northeastern US where I live, people are being told it's OK to venture outdoors for fresh air, walk the dog, go for a jog etc., provided they stay six feet away from others at all times. DH and I go for walks in our own neighborhood and on Sunday afternoons we get in the car, drive around for awhile, and come back again grin

So, have patience, try not to get on each other's nerves, keep yourselves busy (make a routine) and take good care, my virtual friends. This too shall pass, safe in the knowledge that we will always find needed support from each other!

I don't like being in nightwear during the day so I always get dressed, even if the clothes look and smell rank. I've been doing a lot of gardening and plan to sort out and tidy the mess in the house where I can. I miss going on outings but we did venture into Deepest Kent last Saturday for a walk on Ide Hill. It was glorious. There were a few other people around but we gave each other a wide berth and ate bread and stinky cheese at the deserted nature reserve later.
We come out of self-isolation on Wednesday and will try and shop for food we need but I'm dreading that. I might slob about at home instead, especially as DH is pretty good at shopping anyway.
It's tricky trying to find a new normal and takes some adjusting to. We need to be kind to ourselves as well as each other and try not to look too far ahead.

Merryweather. Are you a Gran, as well as a Mum, or are you a spy infiltrating from Mumsnet? smile
In either case, best wishes for the new baby's arrival. I was supposed to go to Australia for my latest GCs birth in May, but heaven knows when I will get there now.
I have never been one for staying in my pjs in the morning, or changing into them early in the evening. I usually wear comfortable clothes and no make up though, and have a shower first thing, unless I am going to the gym (and there's no chance of THAT for some time to come! I'm amazed that so many of you are casting your boobs adrift. If your bras are that uncomfortable you need to get down to M & S, as soon as you can, and get measured for some new ones. In the meantime those stretchy ones are very comfortable.
Whether slobby or stylish, take care of yourselves and stay safe.

Lizbethann55 Mon 23-Mar-20 18:11:54

Re bras and boobs. I usually wear underwired, but I am fed up of the wire poking out. I fancy trying one of those bralette. Has anyone done so and are they suitable for us older ladies?

watermeadow Mon 23-Mar-20 20:17:29

Wow, lots of you are even slobbier than I am!
I do get dressed and wear a bra every day because I go out every day, walking the dog twice. I was out for an hour and a half this morning with five others, all spread out 2 metres apart.
I shed my bra after dinner and haven’t worn makeup for 50 years. My mother would be shocked.

Fran3669 Mon 23-Mar-20 20:30:28

I’m still getting up at 5.15am each day to do a workout then get ready for work as if I’m going into the office.

Even when I used to work from home, before getting office premises, I found I had to be ‘properly’ dressed. I haven’t got a clue why as no-one else I know feels the same way!

MamaCaz Mon 23-Mar-20 20:30:37

One day last week, I hadn't even got as far as putting on my scruffy but comfy clothes when I got a video call on WhatsApp from DS.
I ended up sitting on the bathroom floor doing a twenty minute video call while stark naked! I held the phone so high that DS could barely see the top of my head, but I was terrified that it would suddenly slip and reveal all!

Musicgirl Mon 23-Mar-20 21:08:49

As a private music teacher I have been grappling with the intricacies of Zoom online lessons so l cannot be slobby as l can be seen on screen. In fact it is worse than being seen in person as it seems to hone in on every blemish. I have to be careful with the camera angle too otherwise the unfortunate pupil can see every filling or have a wonderful view of the inside of my nose.

My son FaceTimed me on Mothering Sunday and I was still in pj’s and no make up. He kept deeply staring at me from time to time. Afterwards I couldn’t decide if he was looking at me realising I could be vulnerable at 68 - or thinking - God she’s ageing! So I am getting showered and dressed and some light make up in celebration that I am well enough to keep up my standards ???

annodomini Mon 23-Mar-20 22:48:00

I had a whatsap video chat with DS2 this evening. Head and shoulders, so it probably wasn't obvious that I'd ditched the bra. Anyway, he has always been scruffy and tonight he seemed to be bursting out of his shirt buttons.

That's hilarious ?

Tanjamaltija Tue 24-Mar-20 07:35:06

It's that if you make a routine, and stick to it as much as possible, you will be healthier mentally, not just physically. If you rely on sandwiches for lunch, eventually you will lose the yen to cook. So, please, don't allow yourself to lapse. Also - a good old soap and water kills germs much better than an alcohol wipe.

Your posts on 22/03 @22:43 and 22:45 had me laughing out loud ?
It's typical of the way things work...?

Daddima Tue 24-Mar-20 09:28:20

My number two son and I used to enjoy ‘slobbing’ many years ago, when we were both at home. It involved me on one sofa, him on another, large fried breakfast, and trashy telly ( duvet optional depending on weather)
Strangely enough, he suggested we do it now, but I’m being strict with the self isolating. I could still do it, mind you.

Whitewavemark2 Tue 24-Mar-20 09:29:08

Let this be a warning to everyone. I had my first slob day yesterday. So showered and hair washed but left my hair as was looking weird.

Ended up in A&E last night by ambulance, wishing I’d done something to my hair!! (Huge pain - almost certainly gall bladder according to doctor)

So ladies rather like wearing good knickers, be warned??

DoraMarr Tue 24-Mar-20 09:36:29

I’m doing what I always do, shower and wash hair every morning, put serum, bb cream, blusher, eyeliner and lipstick on, dress in something I like. Then, at bedtime, clean face, moisturise hands and face. I like to look my best, it’s keeping my spirits up.

GabriellaG54 Tue 24-Mar-20 09:36:31

The only make-up I ever wear is a lick of mascara and possibly, just possibly, some eyeshadow if it's a really dressed up do.
Otherwise it's wash face with soap n water, hyaluronic toner, serum then SPF day cream (all Lacura) and that's it until bedtime.
I wear leggings and cami all day unless going out, before and since C-19.
I can't understand the need to wear a mask of make up. Men don't, so why do women need to do it. My face is good enough to be seen naked. Whether answering the door in pjs sans make-up or neatly arranged hair or meeting friends for a meal, I take a laissez-faire approach nowadays.
No jewellery save studs and no perfume.
It has been said that I 'always smell 'clean', like a baby after a bath'.
Suits me ?
