.........to be broadcasting the announcements about coronavirus measures.

We know him as someone with scant regard for the truth and his manner of delivery is bumbling. He lacks gravitas. I wonder if some of the idiots who have ignored all the rules just dismiss what he is saying because it is him saying it. There are strong feelings about him.

Might be better if the CMO were to deliver these rules.

Oh yes I was asked and gave a donation to my hospital today.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 26-Mar-20 20:07:55

We are talking about the U.K. changing the subject won’t cut it.

And you think the decision to go with a big donator to the Tory party to provide ventilators when they could have been obtained more cheaply and quicker from EU procurement Isn’t a political reason?

Labaik Thu 26-Mar-20 20:35:16

'Have chickens come home to roost in Italy? Or Spain?'
….I don't understand what that means confused

Summerlove Thu 26-Mar-20 21:13:12

This pandemic isn’t something that could ever have been prepared for, not by any country in the world.

A pandemic has been the highest on the threat assessment list in most countries for the last few years. They all failed to prepare. Things couldn’t have been prepared to exactly this pandemic, but things could have been better prepared.

To say otherwise is ignoring many, many facts.

Never mind the fact that we actually had three months notice. I still can’t figure out for the life of me what most countries did during that time.

Did anyone see C4 News? The difference between the numbers in Italy and South Korea is amazing.

They started off the same and SK was rising quicker earlier on but then they plateaued and Italy continued up as we have seen. The difference was, apparently, that SK already had the test kits available, having learned from earlier escapee viruses from China. Why, in that case, couldn't we get the numbers up quicker I wonder?

Labaik Thu 26-Mar-20 21:40:00

Summerlove; did you watch the BBC4 Pandemic programme, too? I want to know what was in all the warehouses they showed containing medical supplies etc for a pandemic. And yes; as you pointed out, it was no 1 in the list of bad things that might happen although, as they pointed out it wasn't a case of 'if' but 'when'.

Labaik Thu 26-Mar-20 21:40:51

A friend in America has just told me they have complete freedom to do whatever they like, still.

Summerlove Fri 27-Mar-20 01:25:30

Labaik, I didn’t watch the program, but it’s been reported more than a few times over the that few years that it would be “when”.

America is a different case. Some states have instituted shelter in place orders, and others have almost complete freedom of movement. It’s like their own EU. 50 countries rubbing along together. California is fully locked down, but others are not.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 27-Mar-20 06:41:50

Another e-mail that didn’t get “lost” but certainly hit home. It was leaked from a Yorkshire trust. York Teaching Hospital Foundation Trust.

It reveals that

* the government instructed the trust not to test staff for cv even where there is inadequate protection.

*there is a national inadequacy of testing capacity

* Johnson lied when he claimed that testing was set to rise to 25000.

This particular Trust had NO testing capacity whatsoever. It was hoping it would be able to soon

*its outsourcing testing to Leeds is experiencing considerable delays

* when testing comes on line the trust only expects to have limited capacity to test front line staff as exception.

* they will only be able to test staff who have been ill in order for them to return to work, not to test “well” staff in order to,prevent the virus spreading.

After listening to Jenny Harries very clear and sensible answers regarding testing at yesterday's press briefing the 'leaked revelations' from YTHFT are a bit of a wet lettuce surely?

Pikachu Fri 27-Mar-20 07:42:19

His bumbling manner reflects his bumbled thinking. This situation has not been handled well. Lack of PPE supplies, inadequate testing and lack of clarity on restrictions.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 27-Mar-20 07:49:11

With regards to testing, I was unlucky enough to end up in A&E this week and asked the ambulance staff and A&E staff about testing and protective wear.

Their reaction?

They laughed.

I prefer to believe those at the work face rather than those who whilst undoubtedly are doing everything they can are only, when stood up at the No10 podiums, aware that they must protect the government line, for various reasons.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 27-Mar-20 07:54:28

Every day now I am reading from various pundits that Boris will soon be gone.

I’m a bit surprised, but it will be interesting to see what happens.

lemongrove Fri 27-Mar-20 08:40:31

I do wonder sometimes where you get your ‘reading’ from
WW ?
Do you remember how very surprised you were just before the GE that the Conservatives were polling well, when all you were ‘reading’ said exactly the opposite and that Labour would win.
You need to read widely to get a better view of the true picture.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 27-Mar-20 08:59:05

Now is not the time for political point scoring or Covid-19 bingo!!!!

We have to listen to the advice from the science and medical officers and adhere to it.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 27-Mar-20 09:01:15

I am gg13 assiduously.

Just refusing to believe the duplicitous PM.

Greymar Fri 27-Mar-20 09:06:15

Agreed GG, it doesn't help our mindset one bit.

I have to hope that there are decent, honourable people in charge.

GrannyLaine Fri 27-Mar-20 09:11:11

I imagine that Boris fervently wishes he could be "gone" from this nightmare. Personally, I'm surprised at how many across all political persuasions recognise that he is doing a good job in unprecedented times. Apart from those who are offended by haircuts or style of presentation or a fluid and pragmatic response to a rapidly evolving situation.

franceisfun Fri 27-Mar-20 09:14:08

Really Whitewavemark? He certainly seems to be less in evidence at the moment.

In my opinion, the answer to this crisis would be a wartime type of coalition government with everyone working together in the country's best interests.

We have excellent people in all parties. How you choose exactly which people to include I wouldn't know however.

vegansrock Fri 27-Mar-20 09:21:41

Dishy Rishi should take over. BJ is unable to do his wifflewaffle, lies and obfuscations, not as bad as Trump, but that’s not saying much.

GracesGranMK3 Fri 27-Mar-20 09:25:41

Now is not the time for political point scoring or Covid-19 bingo!!!!

I presume that was in reply to LemonGroves post.

Whitewavemark2 Fri 27-Mar-20 09:32:43

vegan I read this morning that he is 18 but looks younger than his age?????

timetogo2016 Fri 27-Mar-20 09:33:26

Regardless if you like BJ or not he has a job to do and is doing it as best as he can.
If he didn`t deliver the important message over this Pandemic killer most of you would be up in arms.
I for one applaud him as he could have passed the job on to someone else with ease.
Seems to me he can`t do right for doing wrong.

Firecracker123 Fri 27-Mar-20 09:41:29

Yes Lemongrove I remember before the last election a poster laughed at me when I said Labour would be wiped out in the North West and Midlands and she said she was saving my post to prove me wrong, she disappeared without a trace lol strange that. I think some who support Labour, the Lib Dems and Greens live on a different planet so out of touch are they with the real world and normal people.
