.........to be broadcasting the announcements about coronavirus measures.

We know him as someone with scant regard for the truth and his manner of delivery is bumbling. He lacks gravitas. I wonder if some of the idiots who have ignored all the rules just dismiss what he is saying because it is him saying it. There are strong feelings about him.

Might be better if the CMO were to deliver these rules.

As for all the Corbyn critics, I am not a huge fan and hoping we will have Keir Starmer leading the Labour Party soon, however he did say something quite profound in PMQs the other day.

He pointed out that this pandemic has:

made it clear how deeply we depend on each other in our daily lives. ... “At times like this, we have to recognise the value of each other and the strength of a society that cares for each other and cares for all

This was in particular reference to people like cleaners, supermarket staff and delivery drivers who are not highly regarded by some in more privileged positions, but whom we are now depending on to keep us all safe and fed. As well as the fantastic NHS workers and other emergency services of course.

I hope once we are on the other side of this crisis we can all respect one another's contribution to society a bit more.

Jane10 I agree with you all the way, (and if not aggrieved left wingers, what on earth are they?)Aggrieved Lib Dems or aggrieved Greens maybe.
They can’t say who they would like to be in charge but moan constantly about what Johnson and the Cabinet are doing.
It’s to be expected though.

May7 Thu 26-Mar-20 19:02:56

You are absolutely right IMO francisfun

janipat Thu 26-Mar-20 19:04:13

lemongrove as someone who criticises anyone who isn't in thrall to this government would you care to comment on my post about the huge discrepancies in the figures being touted around? It's not unreasonable to expect at least accuracy from our government.

Labaik Thu 26-Mar-20 19:10:08

They're now saying that didn't agree to EU help with getting ventilators etc because they 'didn't see the email'.

lemongrove Thu 26-Mar-20 19:15:05

It’s not about being in thrall, it’s about seeing that everything that can be done ( reasonably!) is being done, and as far as I can see, having being tuned in to all announcements since this crisis began, it is being.
Arguing about figures from various sources is a fruitless exercise. It’s a national emergency not a debating society.
Instead of nit picking about ‘discrepancies’ in the figures being touted around, look at what is actually being done.
There will always be discrepancies, because these figures come from different sources.
If you were not such a Labour supporter janipat who supported Corbyn at every turn, you would not be trying to
Constantly politically point score at every opportunity.

lemongrove Thu 26-Mar-20 19:18:17

I know that you say upthread you are not a left winger janipat...
But I did read your posts on politics for quite a while!

janipat Thu 26-Mar-20 19:23:59

Haha lemongrove I absolutely loathe Corbyn, no supporter of his and if you can find one post of mine where I ever have supported him I'll donate £100 to a charity of your choice. There's a challenge for you, prove your lie! You on the other hand would support Johnson not matter what, and are happy to ignore any proof of his incompetence.

The figures about the testing came from Johnson's own mouth, you can find the recording on youtube. The testing figures are actually official ones! I am not constantly trying to point score and I resent your unfounded accusation. So you're perfectly happy for Boris to tout enormous totally artificial numbers, not out just by a tiny bit but nowhere near. I despair, if the government are not held to account to do what they are claiming then we'll never get through this.

janipat Thu 26-Mar-20 19:26:21

And for the record lemongrove I voted LibDem, not Labour!

endlessstrife Thu 26-Mar-20 19:35:12

I believe in, and trust, the medical/ science advisors Boris is taking advice from. To not believe in what our government is trying to do, is also not taking the experts advice. I for one, have become anxious as so many others have, and gransnet is making me worse. So I’m unsubscribing...... for now, until it’s all over. I wish all of you the best and pray you stay healthy.

lemongrove Thu 26-Mar-20 19:37:16

Ah! In that case I do apologise, you are not the ‘former member’ that I always thought you were.
I support what Johnson has done ‘so far’....and as he hasn’t been PM or even Conservative Leader for all that long, it isn’t saying much!
There are many posts by me at the time of the Leadership campaign saying that he would not be my choice ( not that I had a vote anyway) so if you can find one of my posts saying that I thought he would be wonderful, then I will also donate
£100 to the charity of your choice.?
However I do think he is doing well on the corona virus front, not that it’s just him it’s a whole team of people working flat out, and I can’t think that anyone else and their team could do any better.True, he isn’t a details man or a great orator, but seems to surround himself with good people
And of course, the medical experts.

Labaik Thu 26-Mar-20 19:38:01

So lemongrove; what is your response to the fact that the EU offered to help with the acquisition of ventilators and medical equipment but the government 'didn't see the email'. And why our nurses and doctors are not being provided with the protection they need.

lemongrove Thu 26-Mar-20 19:40:14

The above was to janipat

endless.....I get exactly what you say, GN isn’t always the best thing to calm any anxieties!
Come back soon.?

Whitewavemark2 Thu 26-Mar-20 19:45:17

This

www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/26/no-10-boris-johnson-accused-of-putting-brexit-over-breathing-in-covid-19-ventilator-row

Johnson’s slogan

“Brexit do or die”

he really meant it didn’t he?

lemongrove Thu 26-Mar-20 19:46:54

My response Labaik is to say, where do you get your so called facts from? (EU email.)
On protective clothing it’s only some who are not getting enough, and of course, it’s those we hear from.My DIL’s hospital have got what they need, but there is such a need for so very much ( in terms of masks etc) that it’s a supply problem, and no doubt will be sorted out as quickly as possible. This pandemic isn’t something that could ever have been prepared for, not by any country in the world.

Labaik Thu 26-Mar-20 19:47:04

But Whitewave; he didn't see the email....so how can we blame him....

Whitewavemark2 Thu 26-Mar-20 19:49:12

Here the BBC are reporting it

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-52052694

As someone asked

“Did the brexit dog eat the e-mail?”

janipat Thu 26-Mar-20 19:53:47

apology accepted lemongrove . I don't recall saying that you wanted Boris as leader of the Conservative party, or that you thought he would be wonderful, please direct me to where I have? I said you would support Johnson no matter what and I stand by that to date. You have supported everything he has done so far. Your £100 is safe.
I don't care that he's not a great orator, I care that we are being given truthful facts. It's no good telling the public we are going to be doing 10,000, 25,000 and then 250,000 tests a day when our average is still in the high 4,000s Other countries are doing far more tests, and it is the WHO opinion, accepted by every other country affected that this is the way to go. If we are told we have 12000 ventilators with loads more on the way, but we only have 8000 then that is wrong. We are being reassured falsely. You may not care about accurate figures, but if figures count for nothing then why are they being touted at all? For the families of those that will die for our lack of ventilators these are important questions. And I wish my NHS staff family members actually had a fraction of the protective equipment government claims they have.
This is what they're saying now www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-52052694 On Monday they were saying they chose to go a different route. Hmmmmm

Greymar Thu 26-Mar-20 19:54:41

What is this " aggrieved" thing? Nobody is an aggrieved left winger. We are individuals looking to the Prime Minister of the UK at a time of an absolute major crisis.

We look and what do we find?

janipat Thu 26-Mar-20 19:55:08

On Thursday Downing Street said "we are no longer members of the EU" as their excuse. WW2 you got the link in first, apologies, I'm a slow typer smile

Greymar Thu 26-Mar-20 19:56:40

Oh and by the way I have a post from my local hospital appealing for anything, even a box of rubber gloves. We knew it was coming and we are an island. 2 things which should have worked in our favour.

Whitewavemark2 Thu 26-Mar-20 19:57:18

The U.K. has long prepared for events such as this. It would have been a terrible derogation of any governments duty if it hadn’t.

The truth is that even if we had sufficient protective clothing we do not have sufficient staff to wear them.

Chickens have come home to roost after 10 years of warning, begging and worrying over what the Tories have done to the NHS..

When this crises is over there will be enquiries, nd what has happened during the past 10 years will have a significsnt impact on the final analyses.

Labaik Thu 26-Mar-20 19:58:54

So, having read the link to the BBC lemongrove, what is your response?

Labaik Thu 26-Mar-20 20:01:45

You know; sometimes when people call for links/proof [as happened when I first mentioned this last week] they could just google it for themselves....

lemongrove Thu 26-Mar-20 20:02:45

Have chickens come home to roost in Italy? Or Spain?

I do believe the UK ( government)is doing all it can to alleviate problems for the people in every way it can, but of course if you prefer to think it isn’t ( mainly because of political reasons) that’s up to you.
