Our first lab (not the one who pinched the chicken I told you about earlier) when a puppy ate a full half pound of butter and my husband's sandwiches, which were in a plastic bag, ready for him to take to work. Thing is, he ate the plastic bag as well! I came home to a kitchen floor covered in yellow foam, he'd been literally sick as a dog?

I don't think I will worry too much in future if our dog eats a chocolate or raisin; the number of dogs mentioned in this thread who have consumed huge quantities of both and still lived is rather reassuring!

We had an Airedale. I had to leave my job as we were moving from the area they gave me a big cake with beautiful decorations on it. He ate the lot!

I forgave him though as all night he came upstairs to wake me up so I would let him out to be sick in the garden. I was just grateful I didn't have to clear up the kitchen in the morning!

Our late and dearly missed Lab/Retriever, Monty, got hold of a complete box of Thorntons chocolates and ate the whole contents. We still can't understand how he got the wrappers off !! He got a good ticking off and I said I hoped he would be sick - he wasn't !!

My daughters black lab one Sunday morning decided to visit neighbour a couple of doors away ,pinched a raw leg of lamb of the kitchen table and took it into the garage of their house to eat .They had lunch at my daughters Beef !!

A good 30 yrs back my friend used to have chickens. It was the job of her children to look after them and put them away at night. Those checking were well loved.
Suddenly one day the chickens were pooing blue and red poo. Scary for all.
After much research, chatting to vet and neighbours, it turned out that the kids had fed the chickens homemade coloured play dough. Eggs were ok fortunately!

A few years ago I we were having a barbecue to celebrate my DS's birthday. I had made his favourite cake with strawberries and fresh cream as a surprise. They arrived earlier than expected and I quickly lifted the cake down onto a kitchen chair as he walked through to the garden. In that few seconds the dog ate most of the strawberries off the top and licked the cream. My DD who was in the kitchen merely rescued it and put more fruit and cream on saying no one would come to any harm - she was right

Many years ago we were having guests round for a buffet meal on Christmas night. The centrepiece of the spread was a turkey. Just before the food was served my mother went in to the dining room to check that everything looked ok but must’ve left the door open.
Shortly afterwards she called everyone in to eat and there was our cat sitting astride the turkey having eaten quite a considerable amount of meat.

( The same cat managed to “ruin” another Christmas by mistaking the Monopoly set my sister and I had been given - for a litter tray) ?

...obviously I meant the two dogs (not doors)!!

My brother made 3 Christmas cakes, one for them and for each daughter, the cakes were left cooling on the kitchen table and somebody left the kitchen door open, the two doors got in and ate all the cakes between and then not only did my brother not have any cakes he had a hefty vets bill because apparently all the rich fruit in the cake is "poison" to dogs. He was not a happy man and nobody got a Christmas cake that year!

We had a black and white cat when I was a child, Perry, named after my Mum’s favourite singer Perry Como. He was definitely a food thief.....he returned home on one memorable occasion with a huge piece of liver, ready floured!!! Poor soul who’d turned their back must have doubted their own sanity!

This reminds me so much when a neighbour looked after our labrador. I advised her that in no way should he be left on his own or anywhere near the kitchen as he would devour anything (and I mean anything). On returning she was very annoyed that he had eaten ALL of her 3lb Christmas cake that she has made 3 months before and carefully iced and nurtured (and booze fed). She then gave him his dinner and was surprised that he wasn't hungry! Needless to say she didn't offer to dog-sit ever again!

I grew up in a village in the 1950s, no shops open on Christmas Day... anywhere. Late on Christmas Eve, our lovely Staffie, Steve, came home with a large turkey ... It was obviously his Christmas gift for us because he deposited it, undamaged (except where he'd dragged it along) at my mother's feet, and looked up wagging his tail frantically. We never discovered who had gone without Christmas dinner.

We had a border collie. One day,when he was a pup,we came home to find him and the kitchen covered in red goo - looked like he had murdered someone! It turned out that he had got hold of a tube of tomato paste and thoroughly chewed it.

My daughters lab helped herself to 12 muffins that I left to cool on the kitchen counter, paper bun cases and all.

Just looking at funny post I have one when on holiday few years ago I put case outside my room clad only in a bath towel well you can guess the door closed shut had to go in search of other suitcases outside door to knock on for help the couple laughed but did call staff to help but worst thing that everyone in my group found out and when I went into breakfast everybody fell about laughing good job I have sense of humour!!

My dog once ate a whole box of chocolates - wrappers, box and all, and was then sick. We did know that chocolate was bad for dogs and we were relieved that she was ok, but grapes - no idea that they were dangerous, and she loved them. She ate them regularly wtih no ill effects, for all of her long life.

My daughter’s Rottweiler cross ate a whole delivery of 12 raw chicken carcasses. She was supposed to have one a day! No repercussions either, though her mum didn’t feed her for two days afterwards.
During the war my mum left a link of sausages on the kitchen table, only to see the neighbour’s huge fluffy cat running along the backyard wall with them. They weren’t recovered, and I can’t remember if we ate much, that night, after the cat stole the family’s meat ration.
We used to have a collie-cross who was very trustworthy (we thought). We could go out and leave biscuits on the coffee table, and they would be untouched when we returned. One day I had just gone out when I realised that I had forgotten something. Hastily opening the door, what should I see but the dog in the kitchen, tucking into the cat’s dinner!
The expression of guilt as she hastily slunk away was a sight to see!

Our daughter’s dog has never taken food from the table. However on the occasion of a birthday I had made a Malteser cake and it was on dining room table. Sudden moment of wondering where the dog was - he was looking at this cake with mouth open ready to take a bite. He would have been very poorly had he succeeded due to the high level of chocolate - a lucky escape all round.

I once made a salmon mousse when 2 couples were coming for dinner. It was a major faff to make, and I’d decorated it with slices of lemon and cucumber.

I put it on the table and went to call everyone to come. Just before they did, our dog had got up on a chair and very delicately slurped a tongue-ful out of the side!

Thank goodness friends just found it hilarious - I cut that bit out and we ate the rest.

Must have been horrid for even a Labrador to not want it! Maybe in hundreds of years time somebody will dig it up and write a study on what we ate in 2020!

I once owned a Lurcher (renowned thieves) who ate a very large amount of Quality Street. We didn’t know until my young daughter said ‘Toby has done shiny poos”.

My cat came home one day with a pork chop!

One Sunday afternoon our cat was struggling up the garden with something heavy. On closer inspection we found it to be half a roast beef joint. One of my unfortunate neighbours had obviously left it on a windowsill to cool after their dinner!

Oh you put a big smile on my face..!! Great story!!!

Long ago, a new couple arrived on our school compound in Kenya and I invited them for afternoon tea. My sleek grey cat arrived to make their acquaintance and the young man did a double take: 'Oh that's your cat! He's the one I saw disappearing through the window with my fish!' He had laid out a whole fish to thaw. Well, he wouldn't do that again, not with my Stevenson around. And no, that mean cat hadn't shared it with me, though his partner in crime, Orlando, might have had a paw in the matter.
