Hello my lovelies. At last I can open up and prepare for a wee buffet to celebrate our new refuge. cupcake brew cafe wine smile flowers
Welcome!

soop. I think that's the most wonderful sunset I've seen. Means a lot just now.

I hope you are not in too much pain after your afternoon in the garden.

Susan56 Thu 23-Apr-20 21:43:05

ann?

Nannytopsy Thu 23-Apr-20 21:38:59

I do agree! I do the kitchen and good morning and little else - I would be on GN all day!!
We went out and clapped and chatted - nice to see people. The village barn owl put on a display for us too!
Sleep well everyone x

cornergran Thu 23-Apr-20 21:15:32

ann flowers and a hug for you.

dragonfly46 Thu 23-Apr-20 19:45:49

Well said ann x

annsixty Thu 23-Apr-20 18:24:48

Oh how I agree Susan.
I was finding some threads utterly puerile and others so nasty that they don’t deserve to be read whilst the world is in turmoil right now.
With the serious illnesses affecting GNers on this thread and such sadness in our number I really feel deeply affected by everything.
I just pray for better times for us all.

Susan56 Thu 23-Apr-20 18:13:29

Thank you for the advice about the poodle cross Smileless?
Like others I am finding some of the threads pretty awful.A young mum had asked advice on one thread and there was lots of kind, compassionate advice but then the nastiness started. There’s just no need for it☹️I tend not to stray very far from the kitchen and good morning threads these days. The support I have had these last few weeks while Henry has been ill has been such a comfort and I feel blessed to have my virtual friends.
Thank you and thinking of you all.x

soop Thu 23-Apr-20 17:31:56

You lot are a great bunch of Granspals.

I've been doing stuff in the garden. I imagined that the area on which I had "designs" would make for a leisurely afternoon. WRONG! I am beyond knackerooned. In fact, I could not get upright for a good ten minutes. Finished up rolling around until I found something sturdy to grab hold of. Not MacS - was up a ladder. The kneeling thingy would be ideal if only the ground was not undulating. I've used it once. The bloody thing rocked that much I was almost seasick. wink

I'm leaving you with last eve's spectacular sunset. Once again, taken through the window. The sky appeared to be on fire...as in the song - 'Mull of Kintyre'.

Until tomorrow. My very best wishes to all of you. Thank you for visiting our kitchen. smile moon

Good afternoon everyone! Well I have done b....r all today I’m afraid! I am still sitting on the patio with my book ( a Jo Nesbo) and it’s 28C here under my umbrella. I can hear the pheasants squawking and smell the slurry being spread. I knew there was a reason we moved to the country! DH wanted to hear pheasants and I want to hear a cuckoo. They should arrive soon and I do hope our village has some.
I am glad things are looking up Panache.

dragonfly46 Thu 23-Apr-20 16:43:28

Panache pleased you are getting the food package. I have been lucky with Ocado and Sainsbury so far so have not needed it as yet. I was also to.d by Tesco and Asda I was a priority customer but so far no deliveries available.
Have you worn your boaters yet?

dragonfly46 Thu 23-Apr-20 16:39:39

So sorry to hear about your DH dizzy I hope he feels better soon.

ann I agree with you about certain posters, I do know who you mean.

Lovely granddog Maw. Our is still suffering. Fortunately he allows my DH to put drops in his eyes, my DH is much calmer than me. I just make sure he takes his tablets which is also a trial. I do hope he won’t hurt us after all this.

Daisy I too had a zolendronic injection. It was the same time as chemo so suffered greatly from bone and muscle pain. In May I transfer to daily tablets to save me going to the hospital.

Grandmafrench Thu 23-Apr-20 14:47:24

Coucou/Cooee folks. Am actually working outside in the garden. Yaaaay. Well, we poor S of France types don't get your wonderful weather, do we. So, when we do, we have to go mad.

Nanny&G Wow, look at those colours and cotton yarn. Possibly too beautiful to use. Lovely much happier post, Panache - everything seems to be a struggle but sometimes it just gives you results. May your delicious hot lunches soon return - on decent china, and your about time too food parcels keep on coming. Remember, you all deserve it. Keep well.
Oh, that almost edible little spaniel pup. How lovely, all those cuddles to look forward to. May your little dog's ears get better soon, Smileless. You don't want visits to the Vet at this time and probably neither does the dog.
Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine and pacing themselves. It's wonderful to look up at blue skies and feel shoulders drop from around the ears and tension fade away, isn't it. I too am teak oiling some chairs, Soop - assisted by 3 delinquent cats who keep rolling in things and waving at me for attention. Grass has been cut and a wheelbarrow, filled to the brim with rainwater, has been emptied after our recent little weather problem. Take care all, am sending virtual hugs and sunny smiles to everyone unwell, recovering, fragile or sad. Keep safe and enjoy these warm rock cakes just out of the oven with your tea. x

Smileless2012 Thu 23-Apr-20 14:44:40

Good afternoon kitcheners.

Found some lovely strawberries at our little local shop and couldn't resist so have knocked up a pavlova we can all enjoy with an afternoonbrew.

Our cockapoo is doing much better thanks Doodle, Cornergran and Charleygirl. Still a little subdued to the extent that Dylan rubbed noses with her earlier and she let himshock.

We thought about grass seeds N&G as they can be a problem but I'm not sure I'd have been able to see any if they were there. "Mad as a box of frogs" describes the breed perfectly. She's 2 but still as mad as ever and an absolute delight so your family are really going to enjoy their new arrival Nannytopsysmile.

I'll have to be careful when we get to see a picture of the puppy, that I'm not tempted to get another one.

Luna looks adorable MawB and what better way to ease the boredom of lock down.

I'm beginning to wonder if this ear problem may be an ongoing issue soop. We got the drops in this morning and then she hid under the table. No doubt she'll know what's coming later and it wont be quite so easy.

Hope you're not working too hard in the garden and looking after your hip soop.

It would be lovely if you were able to get a puppy Susan and with Henry, it might be an idea to get a poodle/poodle cross because they don't shed and it's often the shedding of fur that's the source of allergies.

Hope you all enjoy the pavlova.

Take care TOYA

Susan56 Thu 23-Apr-20 14:11:17

Good afternoon all.
Glad things are improving panache.
Maw,love the new puppy.Feeling slightly envious I have to say.We hoped to have a new puppy by now but will hang fire for a little while until we are sure Henry won’t be allergic.Love a ruby spaniel?
Glad you are having your treatment in a hospital closer to home Soop, much better.
Sending good wishes to all and dizzy hope your husband is feeling better and Cherry hope you are feeeling better.x

Dreamkeeper friends of mine received a box of food yesterday paid for by the Government. I do not think you will need Tesco's help because it contained 2 litres of fresh semi-skimmed milk, a large loaf of bread, 5 carrots, I think 5 oranges and apples, tins of fruit cocktail, small tins of tuna and also ham. He could not remember what else was in it but this would be arriving weekly until further notice.
Delighted to see you have popped your head round the door corner- you were missed.

It sounds to me as though one would require a hearty appetite to eat one's way through this. You may not need lunch to be delivered for the foreseeable future.

Tara came home mid-morning- obviously not 100% but nothing evident. Maybe she is just having an "off" day. I know she would love me to go to bed but it is rather early for me. Anyway, I am washing for NW London so I do not have the time.

It is 20+C here and just perfect.

Doodle Thu 23-Apr-20 13:53:20

panache how lifting to hear your good news. We don’t realise how much we take our food supplies for granted until they’re not there any more.

Oh ok galen it was worth asking ?

MawB Thu 23-Apr-20 13:31:00

It is the most beautiful day - if it weren’t for The World at One in the background you could believe all is well in the world hmmhmm
I’m not too enchanted with the idea of an over-70’s lockdown until Christmas, are you?
But TBH I will put up with whatever it takes especially once I feel we are making progress, bu we are not the only age group at risk and having shut us away - what happens when we are let loose again?
Panache/Dreamkeeper I am glad to hear that your care home catering arrangements are under review- I wonder if they were short staffed or if they had problems with their supply chain. I suppose the disposable plates might also have been an attempt to reduce the risk of cross-infection?
Anyway I have realised from your posts that at least it sounds as if you are actually “enjoying” real food and the days of the Ensure are behind you smile
I wonder how Morethan and her family are faring? I do often think of you, honestly what you are coping with is hard enough without complications. And Dizzyblonde every good wish to your DH, it is a reminder of how vulnerable all those who work in the community and on whom we rely, are.

soop Thu 23-Apr-20 12:26:09

Galen Tyke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

soop Thu 23-Apr-20 12:25:43

N&G You truly are a creative lady. The cards that you have made for me during times of stress, are safely stored in my personal treasure box. smile

Galen Thu 23-Apr-20 12:24:17

Soop no! I wear diamonds when baking, they’re easier to clean

soop Thu 23-Apr-20 12:22:08

Dreamkeeper Bravo! At last someone has taken note and you will be getting the TLC you deserve. I'm chuffed on your behalf. flowers

Galen wre you perchance wearing your pearls when you baked the fabulous cake?

Smileless Dear Cockapooh! As a child, we had a spaniel called Bruce. He was forever having awful problems with his ears. It's so unfair.

Daisyboots Do you have aches and pains in your joints (for a few days) after the infusions? My appointment if for nest Thursday. Keep me posted please.

soop Thu 23-Apr-20 12:12:40

Charleyg I'm surprised that our Tara doesn't "see off" the intruders. Ah! I was forgetting that she's a feline. Felines please themselves. Silly me!

Maw Awwwwws galore. Luna is luscious.

corner Your reserved chair in our kitchen is a safe haven. Relax as long and as often as you wish. We like having your company.

Purplepixie Cheese and pinapple on a stick. We were sophisticated in them there days. How about the Babycham with a cherry on a stick? Dead classy. wink

Galen Thu 23-Apr-20 11:24:17

Doodle thanks for your kind offer of food taster, but Gary is very obliging in that respect
?

NanaandGrampy Thu 23-Apr-20 10:51:40

Morning all!

It’s a sunshine day and it’s all go here! Sam got his walk before breakfast but is sadly now filthy ! I see a bath in his immediate future! Beds stripped and laundry on ... it’s all a bit too hectic lol

Awww I do love a ruby Maw , they usually have such beautiful eyes. Mind you cockers are as mad as a box of frogs for a while so good luck ?

We were just talking about dog ears Smileless , I took grass seeds out of Sams ear yesterday . We like you would hate to be at the vets and not be able to be with him. So hope the medication works and your lovely dog is back to normal quickly .

Sorry to hear about your DH Diszy , hope it’s a mild case and over quickly .

PurplePixie , I am a big jelly fan ! So pass me a bowl please. Our grandkids only get it at our house so it’s known as Nana's Wibbly Wobbly !?

Well I am off to hang out the last load of washing , then I have some labels to make for the mask extenders I made for a lady from my Knit and Natter group who is a rental nurse ! I’ve added a pic, they are super easy to make but I had to order cotton yarn to do them , so I need to reorder now.

Happy day all!

Dreamkeeper Thu 23-Apr-20 10:45:41

One can never feeling low for long once inside the warm caring atmosphere that is evident in abundance here in our Soop`s kitchen.
How did we ever manage without it?!
Soop you are a star.A special one too.

I certainly thought very much about you all when I was on the recovery stage in Hospital,it brought a few smiles when things were pretty grim.Sadly I could not keep in touch and that is my own stupid fault.I still cannot come to terms with my tablet yet give me a lap top and I am sort of a whizz kid!!

There are a lot of hurting hearts and indeed dear Morethan yours must be foremost on our minds at this time. With you very much in thought and prayer.

Having had the whole set of "wobbles" a few things have improved and has lifted those spirits. One was getting a Tesco slot which is like winning the lottery!the other is after making a heartfelt complaint to our caterers whom delivered our main "Hot meal" of the day on paper plates giving us far less portions and the meals were decidedly of poor quality
.This is now under review as it seems the Catering company had had many other complaints too.
Then pure amazement having this phone call from the Welsh Office inquiring if we had recieved the special letter. On saying yes, we were then informed a food box would be delivered in days and this would continue until this "lockdown" was over.Hearing of the items included truly had me lost for words.Certainly having a Tesco slot for the forseeable will not matter, whilst they will see we have a weekly call to arrange for bread and fresh fruit to be delivered since I mentioned these items were problematic.
A great spirit lifter for sure.
No longer the forgotten few!
I am sure many of you will have recieved similar and so will understand.Out of the miserable depths came a lovely ray of sunshine,of uplift, and as if that was not enough, the sun is also shining and its rays are warm!!

Dear Kitchen friends so good to share the good news as well as those odd wobbles.Trusting life, although unusual with many odd problems still, find you all coping and finding your spirits lifted on each new day.
A special hug for those whom are caring for dear ones with virus symptoms.Trying times for sure.

Every blessing.Stay safe.
