I do hope Grandad isn’t lurking to leap onto this thread but I really have to let off steam somehow. I’m in the vulnerable group and my husband is looking after me wonderfully but he’s driving me mad literally!
I made a shopping list and he’s been shopping but decided what he would get, not necessarily what I wanted! He’s now returned and obsessively taking everything out of their packets and rewrapping them in cling film! Biscuits! They’ll all go soft immediately! He insisted on going to Booths which is very expensive compared to Aldi and doesn’t have everything I wanted. I know, I know this is terrible of me moaning about it but he is driving me mad. Please tell me I’m not on my own and I won’t get told off?

I agree - the shopping gene appears to be missing from my DH and my sons, although funnily enough they’re more than happy to spend hours in the Apple store
When OH goes to the supermarket with me, I am the one 'speed shopping'. I don't take a list with me, because I tend to buy much the same things every time and know exactly where to find them. OH, on the other hand, lags behind, picking up anything that catches his attention and studying it in detail. If I do need him (to ask if he wants or needs a particular product), he is nowhere to be seen
It is particularly amusing when he starts looking for me. I might be walking along the top of the aisles looking for him, while he is walking along the bottom of the same aisles looking for me. I see him look towards me, I wave like an idiot, but he doesn't see me, so moves on to the next aisle where the same happens again - I end up having to race about three aisles ahead and run down one to meet him face to face, otherwise we would never meet again!
On one occasion, I did actually get Customer Services to put put out a call for him, telling him exactly where to go ?
Most men definitely don’t have the shopping gene, years ago I did go shopping with my wife once - I was never asked again!
A few weeks ago I accompanied my new OH shopping she described it as speed shopping. I had a list and picked up nothing more, not her idea of a shopping adventure.
LOL
DH used to ask me to buy shoes for him in the early days of our marriage. I used to ask if I could take his feet with me, then I would.
But let him loose in B&Q or a bookshop and he wouldn't notice if I'd got fed up and caught the bus home.
I would hope that grandad would acknowledge the largest group of essential workers, laying their lives on the line, are nurses and care workers, who are in the most part women. I have a family member nursing virus patients, that truly is laying your life on the line, along with the cleaners who are coming into contact with contaminated surfaces. Don't suppose the lorry drivers have quite the same level of risk, although I obviously recognise the importance of the essential job they're doing.
Well my husband would be the first to admit he hasn't got the shopping gene (he hates it so much that he asks me to buy his clothes for him!). He came with me once when I was looking for a wedding outfit a I wanted his opinion. I tried about 4 outfits on in the first shop. None was right, so I thanked the assistant and left empty handed. Well, he was genuinely shocked! He thought it was very bad manners to take up the assistant's time and then not buy anything! You can definitely tell where shopping is concerned, he has lead a very sheltered life.
I think men are born without the shopping gene, I am now laid back if Mr Barmey does the shopping. We just eat different for a day or so and as I don't really have much of an appetite it doesn't bother me.
Urmstongran, Mrs Grandad (not her real site name) joined this forum a couple of weeks ago and was looking to make her first post in response one of of the regular poster on the political threads.
However, you have not been in circulation, lemongrove has not been about much and POGS has not been on the forum for some weeks now. So my other half has gone back to her WhatsApp group with all that is going on.
I am hoping POGS is ok, but as a man on this forum, I do not like to PM her as she may not think it appropriate.
Anyway I would certainly wish for the "Terrible Trio of the political threads" to all remain sound and in upright condition for the coming debates. However, it will soon be Brexit and the Labour Party leadership here we go again.
As for all the goings on this and another thread in the last couple of days, it is nothing for me as compared to the "political Terrible Trio" ganging up on me. I genuinely do feel as if I have been hit with a salvo of "right wing hooks" then. ??
Anyway, see you Urmstongran and keep letting us know how it is going out there.
Thank you Grandad. Lovely to chat.
I for one am VERY GRATEFUL to you & all who are key workers for ‘doing their bit’ in these uncertain times. Hitting below the belt is unkind and unnecessary.
Look after yourselves - you & MrsGrandad - and your co-workers of course. Good man.
??
Urmstongran, it is great to hear you are ok and sitting this "slight problem" out in the sun.
I am looking forward to our respectful jousts on the political threads and when that time comes I will again personally demand that Nigel Farage return your money to you once again.
How the above seems like a lifetime ago after all that has come about. It all seemed so important just those few weeks ago, but now???
However, In the meantime, you and your great other half ensure you keep safe out there.
Excellent
Yes, SirChenjin it affected me and should have affected all as it was directed at the key group of workers that are keeping all that is required as essential in this country mobile in this time of unprecedented crisis.
Your comment demonstrated that you have no regard or respect for those key workers and in that little respect for yourself in the context, it was made.
I have comprehensively made the case in regard to your action in my posts to be found above.
I will end it here if there is no further comment you wish to make as all can see what in reality you carried out in this thread SirChenjin.
Thanks, Sodapop. Yep all sorted. The whole experience felt like a larger example of those times when one is trying to cover a wound with a bandage using one hand and all the edges keep getting stuck together. Just hope I wiped up all of the nasty viral buggers! We've had two people lose the battle to it in my town.
Oh bless Him,
I must admit I've been wondering about packaging?
Ok we wash our hands when shopping or post arrives and afterwards, but
Can't the virus live say on a biscuit pack or something upto 72 hours?
I'm now imagining these little viruses all lined up waiting in the food cupboards etc
Oh my - that BUM comment has really affected you hasn’t it
.Try not to take it to heart
I've eaten a thick vegetable soup which must have contained sprouts, Maggiemaybe, at an eatery near us and it was delicious.
Hi Grandad! ?
We’ve chosen to sit ‘this’ out in Spain. I’m on Mick’s GM thread - be nice to have you join us!
Yes, it’ll be good to be sparring partners again.
At present you seem to have your hands full on here! Good luck mate.
?

Urmstongran, it is good to see you on the forum as some of us were wondering if you were ok as you seem to have been missing of late.
Are you in the UK or Spain and if the latter can you get back if you wish?
In regards to the Toxicity of this thread, well, when this nations key workers in this crisis are addressed as BUMS any thread is likely to become as such.
However, I have no doubts that with your presence now in the thread the setting will very quickly lighten. ?
When this crisis is over we will have to get back on the political threads again and cross swords once in some respectful but strong debates.
Did Nigel Farage ever give you your money back after I demanded he must? ?
So, you and your other half keep safe Urmstongran.
There are some geranium and petunia plug plants in with our Van Meuwen order as well as the tomatoes and brassica though.
My DH is digging for victory right now. All the leeks are coming up today so I’ve got the soup maker out ready. He has suggested swede and/or sprouts soup, but things aren’t quite that desperate yet.
I suspect that’s exactly what’s happening Callistemon - people are starting to think about growing for food in case we have a second wave of the virus later in the year, rather than planting the ornamental things. I really hope these nurseries find a way round this - it’s awful to think of the plants being destroyed along with their livelihoods.
I did have a look online at our local Garden Centre and yes, they will deliver and leave the plants etc outside; however, they are out of stock of many strips of vegetable plants.
Perhaps everyone has the same idea, grow your own, and perhaps the nurseries can't keep up with the deliveries to the garden centres.
Probably people will be wanting veg rather than lovely plants, shrubs and trees this year
No, Urmstongran, you are not the only one.
