Another moan about husbands - sorry!

I do hope Grandad isn’t lurking to leap onto this thread but I really have to let off steam somehow. I’m in the vulnerable group and my husband is looking after me wonderfully but he’s driving me mad literally!

I made a shopping list and he’s been shopping but decided what he would get, not necessarily what I wanted! He’s now returned and obsessively taking everything out of their packets and rewrapping them in cling film! Biscuits! They’ll all go soft immediately! He insisted on going to Booths which is very expensive compared to Aldi and doesn’t have everything I wanted. I know, I know this is terrible of me moaning about it but he is driving me mad. Please tell me I’m not on my own and I won’t get told off?

SirChenjin Mon 30-Mar-20 23:25:14

Yes, the various Papys do provide endless entertainment and give us much to laugh at. Goodnight to you all smile

GabriellaG54 Mon 30-Mar-20 23:41:34

If he's touching the packets/wrapping when removing them then, without washing his hands before touching the cling-film to re-wrap items, then that is ridiculous.
On the other hand, if he removes wrapping without touching the contents then washes his hands thoroughly before re-wrapping goods in cling-film, that would be fine, if not really sensible. Mind you, the before and after actions would have to be on separate parts of a table or counter top and would need wiping down afterwards.

SirChenjin Quote [ He seems quite settled on the other thread. Do you think he can be lured over here with a sausage and a tummy rub?] End Quote.

SirChenjin I am not sure who "he" is but, I feel that any sausage being involved with yourself would soon become a very floppy sausage. ???

Wow just wow Grandad1943!!!!

You have certainly come out of your shell.

You are showing a sense of humor smile

Davidhs Tue 31-Mar-20 07:58:04

I’m wondering just what you ladies were drinking late last night, or were you sober, which is very worrying

Grandad1943 Tue 31-Mar-20 08:02:27

fatgran57 many thanks for your above post, and towards that, anyone who gets to knows me personally I believe soon comes to realise that i have always had a great sense of humour. ?

Grandad1943 Tue 31-Mar-20 08:16:46

Davidhs, in regard to your post @07:58 today, what I did find most disturbing in what has been stated in this thread in the last twelve hours, was that one forum member even took it upon herself to mock key workers in this time of unprecedented crisis.

Those are people who we are totally reliant on for all we require at this time, and those persons carry out those duties through very long hours of work and at great health risk to themselves.

It was without doubt totally disgusting.

GrannyLaine Tue 31-Mar-20 08:36:11

Grandad I think you are going to have to help us understand your perception of 'mocking' key workers as I can't find any such reference.

Visions of Donald Trump are coming to mind......... he can dish it out but not take it, and also is full of self praise.........hmmm

The thing is, common sense is often deemed to be in short supply when shopping lists are not adhered to/misinterpreted and so on. If we take the definition of common sense to be sound judgement in practical matters, then this appears to be the crux of the matter. You could say this is a skill like any other and has to be learned.

If individuals are not taught from an early age to housekeep, shop and generally contribute then how are they in fact able to learn this skill? What I am trying to say in my alzheimered fuddled way, is that a lifetime of demarkation of roles is probably the problem here. Instead of the grumbles, embrace the diversity of the shopping bag, adopt innovative menus, and be thankful there is someone to do the shopping. Embrace the life you have. We never know what is around the corner.

Luckylegs, it sounds like he is just worried about you but I feel the same way when someone is doing something I'm accustomed to doing, especially if it involves messing up my biscuits! On the other hand, I'm replying to this because I had a good laugh at myself today as I tried to get groceries put away. I live alone and am self-isolating as I have lung issues so I ordered some groceries to be delivered. When they arrived, I TRIED to follow the health guidelines.

I'd just showered so my long hair was hanging down, drying. I put on my mask as I have allergies, pushed my glasses up to hold my hair back, donned gloves and readied myself to handle all the bags and supplies. I'd decided to take the boxed goods up to my spare room to sit for a few days. The refrigerated stuff I would bring to the kitchen and process.

What actually happened, however, was that I got quite sweaty, winded and wheezy lugging heavy bags and litter boxes up the stairs. My glasses kept falling down onto my face, trapping my hair in the perspiration so I couldn't see. I would then try to push both the glasses and hair off my face with the gloves rendering them useless.

In the kitchen, I yanked off the gloves in frustration and accidentally knocked a huge stack of frozen Amy's dinners on the floor. I was touching the plastic with bare hands, then grabbing the frig handles and bowls to load produce in. It was a mess of an attempt. If there WERE any virus particles on the packages or bags, they were all over the place by the time I got done! blush AND my hands are like sandpaper from all of the washing!!

If DH mentions running out of milk once more he will be crying over it spilt all over his head!

I am on the verge of phoning Jolene.

GrannyLaine in regard to your post @08:36 today you request me to point out where mocking key workers has taken place in this thread. In that, I will point you towards the post made by SirChenjin @21:51 on the 30/03/20.

In that post, which is little short of a rant against me, she associates workers in the Road Haulage Industry as contributing towards my posts on this forum. She then later in her rant refers to those key workers as, and I Quote, [WhatsApp BigUpMen (BUM for short) group, each getting a shot of the keyboard.]

Road haulage is an absolutely essential industry in this unprecedented crisis and all working within it, as the BBC Panorama program so well demonstrated last night, are working up to sixteen hours per shift under the crisis emergency regulations. They are also working in conditions where social distancing is often impossible, and as with the case of truck drivers, they are finding the service areas where they take their rest do not even have facilities for them to wash their hands at this time.

Therefore to witness those key workers referred to as BUMs, any self respecting person would I feel condemn outright as totally unacceptable, for that is without doubt what it is.

I would hope that the forum member who made the above post would make an open apology on this thread, but I am not knowing her charter on this forum holding my breath.

Now as a person working from home I had better get on with that work.

Grandad, going back to your earlier question, we’ve put in an order with Van Meuwen online for some tomato and brassica plants. We’ve used them before, in more normal times. The order’s been confirmed, but whether it ever actually turns up, well, who knows?

Your story of the cooked lettuce reminds me of when we had our first dinner party and I carefully followed a recipe for delicious watercress soup. Which probably would have been if I hadn’t used mustard and cress (I didn’t know there was any other sort). We all sat in polite silence ploughing our way through what might as well have been big bowls of hot water.

There was the time I pickled raw beetroot as well, but we won’t go there....

GrannyLaine Tue 31-Mar-20 10:12:06

I see Grandad, thank you for clarifying.
Its interesting isn't it when people read exactly the same post and extrapolate different meanings? I would read the post in question and see it as an observation, giving examples of inconsistent posting style and offering possible explanations. Others including myself have noticed the same inconsistencies. We all have to be wary on such a forum that people may not be what they seem - its part of Internet safety. Frankly I have no knowledge of the WhatsApp group referred to but I'm sure SirChenjin can detail that.

Callistemon Tue 31-Mar-20 10:15:19

I've ordered cucumber seeds although DH thought we shouldn't because he thought we may have a glut of them.
His face dropped when I said brightly that I could make chilled cucumber soup if we have a glut (I've made it before!).

Of course, the seeds may never arrive
But ?

Luckylegs Tue 31-Mar-20 11:40:55

Wow! I was ‘chilling’ last night and didn’t want to get my blood pressure up again so kept off GN. I return to find THREE men all wanting to get their two penn’orth in and what’s more, the dreaded H and S expert giving us his valuable advice! Best of all, you lovely ladies have cheered me up immensely with your kind and understanding responses, women (mostly) seem to know how to talk to each other.

Terribull you have given me the best laugh I’ve had for weeks! You are so good at summing things up in a humorous and very witty way! I wish I’d read it last night as I desperately needed it after finding all the weird and wonderful items purchased which were definitely not on my list. Two grapefruit, how lovely, I love grapefruit but cannot have it due to my medications. We use loads of tinned tomatoes but he’s got the best organic ones available, must have cost a fortune but of course, I’m not allowed to see the receipt.

Oh well, the dreaded shopping trip is over for another week. I’m very interested in hearing other people’s tales about anything but not especially interested in the health and safety aspects of the trucking industry (written very carefully there!).

SirChenjin Tue 31-Mar-20 11:50:37

The Papys really are grappling in the dark for spurious examples of how they’ve been insulted, demeaned, outraged by my posts - such faux righteous indignation grin

Granny you’re absolutely right, it was an observation of the multiple posting styles referencing his own joint WhatsApp group that he mentioned in a previous post. I’m sure it’s not really called BUM.

sodapop Tue 31-Mar-20 12:30:01

Sorry gmarie but your post made me chuckle, hope you are settled now. smile

Luckylegs Tue 31-Mar-20 12:36:23

I’m sorry but I can’t find the place that you say he’s referencing his own joint WhatsApp group, SirChengin. I think I may need chapter and verse explaining to me in quotes/unquotes the exact time and date perhaps. I know I’m being pedantic but somehow I’ve taken on another person’s idiosyncrasies!

GrannyLaine Tue 31-Mar-20 12:54:00

Thank you for clarification SirChenjin
I think that clears up that little misunderstanding.

Grandad1943 Tue 31-Mar-20 13:16:35

SirChenjin, in regard to your post @11:50 today, you really do demonstrate that you have no respect for the key workers that in this unprecedented crisis are working incredibly long hours in conditions that place their health at great risk so as to supply all you require while you sit on your backside placing unintelligible rants on this forum.

Is support of the above I will place once again on this thread the post in which you called those key workers BUMs @21:51 - on the 30/03/20.

SirChenjin repost begins here:-
There definitely seems to be a couple of people behind Papy’s posts - the long winded one, pompous one who provides fascinating glimpses into the glamorous world of the haulage trade and H&S legislation (I think you’ll find it’s page 389, subclause 2, paragraph 54 SirChenjin, and not paragraph 53 as you claimed in your post of 21:34 Quo Unquote - and I will leave it to other posters to judge you for your transportation error) and the one who can barely string a coherent sentence together. Are they part of the same WhatsApp BigUpMen (BUM for short) group, each getting a shot of the keyboard, I wonder?
Repost ends.

SirChenjin as someone who states they dislike intensely myself and my posts on this forum, you continually demonstrate that you avidly read each of those posts and remember well their content. In that, you illustrate above that you remember my reference to a WhatsApp group I am a member of in which I have stated that it entirely comprises of what are at present key workers and drivers in the Road Haulage and Distribution industry.

Therefore it is obvious that you knew well who you were referring too when you described those key workers as BUMs in your above referred to post.

Therefore I feel an open apology to those workers would be in order and perhaps a word of appreciation for their efforts in this crisis would not be amiss. However, I suspect that will not be forthcoming and we will be once again presented with yet another unintelligible rant such as reposted above.

Grandad1943 Tue 31-Mar-20 13:17:48

Now coffee break over, head down andback to work. ?

Callistemon Tue 31-Mar-20 13:19:35

So which one is Grandmum43?

Callistemon Tue 31-Mar-20 13:20:00

sorry, pedant alert!!
