I’d love to get some paint but I can’t think of anything else I need.
Seems that online shopping is booming. Am I missing out??‍♀️

dirgni do you have a local garden centre - some of them are selling more online and delivering.

We need another compost bin as the Council has announced it will not be picking up garden waste any more. I hope they refund what we have paid in advance, that will pay for a bin.

I bought some sheepskin slippers from Celtic last week (much needed) but then felt guilty. I'm not sure we should be expecting so much from delivery drivers who are surely putting themselves at risk every time they knock on a door. On the other hand we are helping businesses stay functioning. Hard to know what to do for the best.

Please STOP. Just STOP this needless buying. I want this awful situation over more than a ball of wool or a plant.

Total lock down in Italy and Spain, but still the dying continues.

Don’t you want to see your families again?

Sorry but a lot of people are still not on board.

Holland and Barrett very good for things like flax seeds and chia seeds, gluten free bread, dried fruits, nuts, vitamin D pills - none of which are ever going to be available in the village shop. Quick deliveries. Also good quality wet and dry food to prolong the life of my ageing cat. Most commonly available foods are rubbish. Apropos the Vitamin D - if you are very old like me and unable to walk far, you don't get out in the sunshine, when there is any, and don't wear revealing clothes. You really need the vitamin supplement as your body cannot make it's own supply unless exposed to sun. Islamic ladies in modest clothing have the same problem.

Liaise
I had same problem as you went on for months, I had bought a new phone as well, umpteen engineers later, and one came and went through the wiring coming into the house and found a tiny crack in wiring, repaired it and I haven't had any trouble since that was twelve months ago

Pond fish food. Box of screws. ( big construction coming up ) Books, jigsaw. Waiting for a bulk delivery from B&Q. Veg seeds . That is all so far

Was keen on ordering non-essentials, available online, until son gave me an almighty lecture about poor sods in warehouses plus delivery drivers, risking their lives to get the stuff to me. Lecture also thwacked it to me, that he and his friends are having enormous problems with elderly parents, who just don't get it. We should prioritise lives over our selfish needs and over business.

I get it now. Food and medicine should be the only deliveries.

I bought the next book in the Jack Aubrey series by Patrick O'brian. I was trying not to gobble them as he won't be writing any more - being dead - but then I thought, what's the point? Might as well read them all. Might be dead myself before this is over.

Yes, I am a little ray of sunshine.

suttonJ Thu 02-Apr-20 15:42:17

Rachand.... you are absolutely right.

Some Easter presents for DGC.
All birthday presents for April and May that are needed.
New duvet cover and pillow cases
Gardening tools

CBBL Thu 02-Apr-20 15:50:17

Things not in the supermarkets, and for which I would normally trawl to different stores to find - such as a new oven liner (the existing one now has a couple of holes in)!

lemongrove Thu 02-Apr-20 15:51:06

Life is hard enough without denying ourselves or others the things that we need, and it keeps businesses ticking over and jobs for the drivers.
Stop being holier-than-thou some posters!

bootie41 Thu 02-Apr-20 15:57:41

Rachand
I thought I was helping to keep small businesses from going under, the government has not told us not to buy on line from small shops, and also if the said shops didn't want us to buy from them they would have close the websites and drivers coming to me place items on doorstep don't want signatures

vegansrock Thu 02-Apr-20 16:05:26

Who is to say what is essential? Half the stuff in supermarkets isn’t “essential” is it? We don’t need tea, coffee, wine, beer, fruit juice, milk - we could just drink water. I would say keeping businesses afloat by buying garden items is as essential to some people as tea and coffee are to other people.

Cat worm treatment and cat food,
Eye drops
Face moisturiser ( had appointment in town after lockdown so unable to have got new jar and am currently having to ration myself. For those that think it's not necessary, I have dry sensitive skin that gets very sore if I don't use moisturiser every day !
Panty liners - son is doing the shopping for me- enough said!

Missiseff Thu 02-Apr-20 16:13:26

Gobsmacked! Easter gifts?? And the rest?? We should be listening to advice and only shopping for ESSENTIAL items, i.e food, medicines, not fluffy bunnies! Royal Mail, and others need to lessen their risk of contracting the virus by handling fewer parcels, not be given twice as much to contend with!!! The virus can stay on cardboard for up to 24 hours, and 2-3 days on plastic. I'm appalled that people are shopping needlessly angryangry

MamaCaz Thu 02-Apr-20 16:14:27

Just a few vegetable seeds - though I've been warned that the supplier is both busier than usual and slowed down by the staffing/safe-working problems thrown up by Covid19, meaning it will be a long time before I get my order.

I suspect that by the time the seeds arrive, it might be too late this year for me to sow some of them (the Brussels Sprouts), but at least they should still be ok to use next year, and probably the year after that too if I store them properly.

merlotgran Thu 02-Apr-20 16:17:35

I'm still waiting for some seeds from e-Bay which were ordered two weeks ago. Some seed firms like Kings are no longer taking orders.

GlammakAz59 Thu 02-Apr-20 16:18:12

Don't forget its a way for corona virus to enter the home on cardboard boxes and plastic bags hense no internet shopping for me .

NanaPlenty Thu 02-Apr-20 16:21:08

Thank you QuaintIrene x

MamaCaz Thu 02-Apr-20 16:24:42

I thought that the 'only shop for essential items' related to buying from land-based businesses, to prevent us being amongst other people for any longer than necessary, but that online shopping was actively encouraged. Have I got that wrong? blush

MiniMoon Thu 02-Apr-20 16:28:01

I must order a new shampoo bar. Mine is now just a sliver, it wont last much longer, I hope the company I bought it from is still trading.

NanaDH Thu 02-Apr-20 16:30:27

Just had delivered hearing aid batteries.? Because I did not want to bother the NHS.

rosenoir Thu 02-Apr-20 16:35:16

I have just spoken to a delivery driver whilst on my daily walk, she said it is busier than Christmas and really does not want to work as she is scared but will not get paid if she does not , some of her colleagues are saying they have symptoms when they do not just to stay at home.

Callistemon Thu 02-Apr-20 16:37:47

I depends what might be termed essential, Missiseff

People could order many of these items through their online food shop if they can get a slot.
Here, even even vulnerable elderly cannot get a slot.

People are allowed to go out for essential items but I understood that only sensible restrictions would apply to online shopping.
The more firms we can support in these difficult times the better.
I try not to use Amazon.

I had an email from my seed supplier, MamaCaz to say there would be a delay due to introducing stringent safe working practices which is what we need to know, but that orders are being processed.
