The fact that the U.K. spends the lowest amount on health care in the G7 is nothing to boast about.

Chewbacca Fri 10-Apr-20 10:25:59

Of course, you're quite right vegansrock, I just thought that the information from across Europe was an interesting comparison to the UK.

This vile excuse of a human being should be sacked .

gillybob Fri 10-Apr-20 10:46:30

But Germany has almost twice as many confirmed cases of CV than we have here in the U.K. with a population of only 20 million more .

Something like

U.K. population 67.80 million. CV cases around 65,000

Germany population 83.02 million. CV cases around 119,000

SirChenjin Fri 10-Apr-20 10:51:40

That’s because they’re testing!

SirChenjin Fri 10-Apr-20 10:52:05

Testing more people that is - as we should be

SirChenjin Fri 10-Apr-20 10:53:02

Sorry, just saw your post about the RMT boss - what a vile thing to say shock

tickingbird Fri 10-Apr-20 10:53:43

Different countries also collate data differently. There’s been discussion regarding Germany’s figures. I believe the UK class a person dying with CV as a death caused by the virus. From what I gather, Germany only do that if death is actually caused by the virus and not just because someone had it when they died.

The fact that the U.K. spends the lowest amount on health care in the G7 is nothing to boast about.

But Europe funds its health services in totally different ways to us

www.theguardian.com/healthcare-network/2011/may/11/european-healthcare-services-belgium-france-germany-sweden

We need to change how we fund ours. And how its run

But that's another thread

tickingbird Fri 10-Apr-20 10:54:45

Surely that man should be sacked from his £100,00 pa job?

Oldwoman70 Fri 10-Apr-20 11:01:46

There is also a Labour councillor in Leeds, Julie Heselwood, who said his stay in ICU was a publicity stunt! Don't these people engage their brains before opening their mouths?

gillybob Fri 10-Apr-20 11:01:53

You would think so tickingbird . He was even given the chance to apologise but said he stood by his every word. How anyone could wish this on another human being is beyond wicked.

gillybob Fri 10-Apr-20 11:03:23

Sorry off topic ..... but I have only just worked out your name SirChenjin and had a giggle that it took me so long. Very clever ! grin

gillybob Fri 10-Apr-20 11:04:26

I think these people are really just saying what they are thinking which just goes to show how vile some people can be.

Greymar Fri 10-Apr-20 11:52:34

Awful thing to say, he should be ashamed.

SirChenjin Fri 10-Apr-20 11:59:34

smile gilly - thanks!

Although it’s meant to be ‘search engine’ someone pointed out it’s also read as ‘searching gin’ - which in these strange and unusual times is probably a good suggestion grin

timetogo2016 Fri 10-Apr-20 12:02:15

It brings it home to you when you put a face to a victim.
I hope and pray he pulls through.

POGS Fri 10-Apr-20 13:11:09

Well my post hit a nerve with ' a few' didn't it.

Whitewave you said:-

"What nasty minds those other posters have?"
----

" I think that it simply reflects exactly how they would feel if Starmer got ill. They are are assuming that everyone else has the same lack of empathy.

Shame on them.
---
You are the gift that keeps on giving.

NO I do not think for one minute anybody would show lack of empathy toward Starmer if he was ill and in Intensive Care.

For you to put up such an excuse shows it is a thought but that thought would not occur to many.

POGS Fri 10-Apr-20 13:14:15

If your politics decides whether you hope someone lives or dies then you need to re-evaluate yourself.

There is a time for politics and there is a time to be human.

Callistemon Fri 10-Apr-20 13:21:26

POGS 13:14:15

Succinct and excellent post.

EllanVannin Fri 10-Apr-20 13:23:04

Shocking !

EllanVannin Fri 10-Apr-20 13:28:14

Those people should be careful what they wish for !

Greymar Fri 10-Apr-20 13:49:49

*If your politics decides whether you hope someone lives or dies then you need to re-evaluate yourself.

Is it human to expect somebody on muimum wage ( possibly up to their eyes in debt) to wear a shoddy uniform and run round to deliver an elderly person their 15 minutes of " care"?

Greymar Fri 10-Apr-20 13:53:04

And tell me, who are you exactly to be telling us to re evaluate ourselves?

Perhaps Mr Johnson could revalute his cavalier attitude.....why did he shake hand with Covid patients exactly?

trisher Fri 10-Apr-20 14:07:38

POGS If your politics decides whether you hope someone lives or dies then you need to re-evaluate yourself

Politics has always decided if people lived or died. The deaths were just not quite so public. My mother died in hospital waiting for a care package. If care services hadn't been cut to the very bone, if care workers were properly paid, if many hadn't left because of Brexit, in other words if people hadn't voted in a Tory government my mother might have gone back to her own flat. She might have lived longer and when she died it might have been in her own bed. So actually I understand why some might feel that an overprivileged man who has overseen such devastation might not be worthy of their sympathy. They don't need to reevaluate them selves. It is the people who voted in the Tories who need to do that.
