Hi everyone how are you getting on without going to the hairdresser.
Can you manage yourself or are you struggling? I'm an ex hairdresser so can colour my own hair and trim my fringe also cut DH's hair, although not done it for a long time! There are lots of tips on YouTube for cutting hair if your brave enough.

Missing her sooooo much. I was already well overdue for a cut and "colouring in" session before the lockdown, so it's out of hand now!

It's got to have been about 10 years since I coloured at home, so it'll be interesting to see how I get on. I have a couple of boxes of home dye that I think is near to my colour, so will be putting Davina McColl's claims to the test. I've also picked up a pack of root touch up in a similar colour, as we don't know when this incarceration will end.

I have it shoulder length anyway, so there's no style as such to worry about, thankfully, so it can just grow to whatever length it wants to. Side parting so no fringe to contend with either, and it can be caught up in a clip to keep it out of my way.

I always straighten my hair, but last night we had a virtual birthday party for a colleague who lives alone. I didn't have time to dry my hair and straighten it after washing, and everyone kept commenting how curly my hair is. By the end of the "party" I did indeed look like Crystal Tipps grin

I haven't actually seen my hairdresser since the week before Christmas. My Jan appointment was done by her friend as she was having to look after her partner who has cancer. I cancelled the Feb one as I was full of cold and didn't want to pass it on to her as he was still having treatment and then of course we had the lockdown. My hair is long so cutting it doesn't matter but as it's coloured the roots were showing quite badly. I'd managed to buy a hair dye before lockdown thinking it was approximately my colour so tried it out last week - it's about 3 shades darker! So far my husband doesn't seem to have noticed hmm

Looking at it as a time to grow it, need more length can't have a bad day and rush to get it cut but what I will do is take pictures so we will see best length .My hairdresser and I have family in shielded groups so we will probably be very slow returning to any form of normality .

My daughter cuts and colours my short hair every 4 weeks but naturally her salon is closed and as we don’t live in the same house she cannot do my hair.
I’ll probably look like Cruella De Ville in a few weeks grin

Not at all, I'm a mean old bookkeeper that won't part with large sums of cash to do anything to my hair. Leave and style or hack and slash.

I absolutely hate going to the hairdressers, for me it’s on a par with hospital appointments, dentist check ups etc. If I could leave my head and pop back later I would be happy. If I won a voucher for a spa weekend I would give it to my daughter. I just hate being fussed in any way.
However, I have found a busy down to earth hairdresser who takes no notice of me ? and love my hair with its highlights. I have always had long dark hair. For now, root spray, then I will colour the roots aaargh. I also put extensions in and have it over one shoulder, which looks nice.
Reading about a multi millionaire dating site, apparently men like long straight hair...
For me “All Passion Spent” lol

Thinking of you Dragonfly46 flowers
Your hair will soon grow and you may get the chemo curl like me so wont need styling for a while. My hair is actually thicker than before which I am pleased about.
I am not bothered about my hair but am missing having my nails done especially as having them gelled helps during chemo. 4 nails off so far which seems odd after over 20 years of having them done. Plus contrary to popular opinion my nails are fine and actually feel stronger than they used to be. I have painted the bare nails with a hard as nails top coat to protect them.

Need to cut my fringe as I can’t see unless I swish it to the side! Will do it as soon as I wash it again. I’ll be brave.

emilie Thu 09-Apr-20 12:43:47

Is it true that if you never wash your hair it will eventually clean itself?

Kartush Thu 09-Apr-20 11:55:27

I usually do my own fringe but am growing it out so can pin it back, hair is already long so no problems there

maryhoffman37 Thu 09-Apr-20 11:54:28

Not yet but I will be before the three months is up.

Foxyferret Thu 09-Apr-20 11:42:22

No, haven’t been to the hairdressers for 2 years. It’s long so only went for a trim anyway and don’t colour it at all.

GagaJo Thu 09-Apr-20 11:41:26

No. Most days ATM I'm not even brushing my hair!

No one other than daughter/GS can see me, so why worry? I'll get it sorted out when I need to start going out again.

yorkie20 Thu 09-Apr-20 11:39:26

I dont miss the hairdresser. My hair is quite long anyway and I embrace the grey which I find no problem with doing. Last time I went to hairdresser for a trim was errrr August last year. I've been trimming it myself since then, great not to have to find time to make appointments!

gillyknits Thu 09-Apr-20 11:29:15

My hair grows really, really quickly so I have it cut very short every five weeks. It was due to be cut last week and is already getting out of hand. It just gets thicker and thicker . Looks like I’ll have to cut it myself and if it’s a mess then wear a hat for a few weeks until it grows. Long hair is much easier to cut!

There will soon be a new slogan on Gransnet. “Every head has a silver lining!”
I have never dyed my hair, so that’s not a problem. It’s very grey at the front, and a mix of grey and brown at the back. I’m 80, and wish that it would go to the lovely silver that my mum had from in her sixties.
I have a very short style, and usually just ‘wash and go’ but it was due for a cut when the incarceration began, and is beginning to annoy me already. The idea of cutting it myself is rather scary. Heaven knows what it would look like afterwards.
I wonder how many ladies will find that their hair condition improves after not being regularly doused with chemicals. I sometimes wonder if the body absorbs hair treatments too, and whether they are harmful. People don’t like the idea of our food being sprayed with heaven-knows-what, but are quite happy to do it to themselves.

Elderlyfirsttimegran Thu 09-Apr-20 11:26:59

YES!

MawB Thu 09-Apr-20 11:26:21

I am trying hard to imagine where you must live joesoap not to be under isolation and movement restrictions?

Nannan2 Thu 09-Apr-20 11:25:20

Try get hair colour with shopping order,or try superdrug online maybe?hmm

EmilyHarburn Thu 09-Apr-20 11:23:28

I bought a wig off Amazon just in case this goes on for 3 months or more

Nannan2 Thu 09-Apr-20 11:21:56

Im gladly missing a haircut,if it means we can help get rid of it by not going out & about.

Nannan2 Thu 09-Apr-20 11:19:45

Not sure where you do live Joesoap but maybe if there WERE more restrictions there we wouldn't all have to do this as the bl**dy virus wouldn't be spreading like wildfire.???angry?

craftyone Thu 09-Apr-20 11:18:11

my hairdresser was just in process of updating her website, she is on her own and still has rent to pay. She sent me a lovely e mail and has taken a temporary morning job in a supermarket. So far so good re my hait, I did cut my fringe and side bits by following a youtube video. The rest is still short enough not to be bothersome

Nannan2 Thu 09-Apr-20 11:15:25

My sons stopped telling me my 'hairs getting grey' now as i just give him the 'hard stare'...or mention jedward..grin
