Hi everyone how are you getting on without going to the hairdresser.
Can you manage yourself or are you struggling? I'm an ex hairdresser so can colour my own hair and trim my fringe also cut DH's hair, although not done it for a long time! There are lots of tips on YouTube for cutting hair if your brave enough.

No. Most days ATM I'm not even brushing my hair!

No one other than daughter/GS can see me, so why worry? I'll get it sorted out when I need to start going out again.

No, haven’t been to the hairdressers for 2 years. It’s long so only went for a trim anyway and don’t colour it at all.

maryhoffman37 Thu 09-Apr-20 11:54:28

Not yet but I will be before the three months is up.

I usually do my own fringe but am growing it out so can pin it back, hair is already long so no problems there

Is it true that if you never wash your hair it will eventually clean itself?

Harris27 Thu 09-Apr-20 12:47:43

Need to cut my fringe as I can’t see unless I swish it to the side! Will do it as soon as I wash it again. I’ll be brave.

Thinking of you Dragonfly46 flowers
Your hair will soon grow and you may get the chemo curl like me so wont need styling for a while. My hair is actually thicker than before which I am pleased about.
I am not bothered about my hair but am missing having my nails done especially as having them gelled helps during chemo. 4 nails off so far which seems odd after over 20 years of having them done. Plus contrary to popular opinion my nails are fine and actually feel stronger than they used to be. I have painted the bare nails with a hard as nails top coat to protect them.

I absolutely hate going to the hairdressers, for me it’s on a par with hospital appointments, dentist check ups etc. If I could leave my head and pop back later I would be happy. If I won a voucher for a spa weekend I would give it to my daughter. I just hate being fussed in any way.
However, I have found a busy down to earth hairdresser who takes no notice of me ? and love my hair with its highlights. I have always had long dark hair. For now, root spray, then I will colour the roots aaargh. I also put extensions in and have it over one shoulder, which looks nice.
Reading about a multi millionaire dating site, apparently men like long straight hair...
For me “All Passion Spent” lol

Not at all, I'm a mean old bookkeeper that won't part with large sums of cash to do anything to my hair. Leave and style or hack and slash.

Caramac Thu 09-Apr-20 13:02:51

My daughter cuts and colours my short hair every 4 weeks but naturally her salon is closed and as we don’t live in the same house she cannot do my hair.
I’ll probably look like Cruella De Ville in a few weeks grin

Graygirl Thu 09-Apr-20 13:12:15

Looking at it as a time to grow it, need more length can't have a bad day and rush to get it cut but what I will do is take pictures so we will see best length .My hairdresser and I have family in shielded groups so we will probably be very slow returning to any form of normality .

Willow500 Thu 09-Apr-20 13:15:41

I haven't actually seen my hairdresser since the week before Christmas. My Jan appointment was done by her friend as she was having to look after her partner who has cancer. I cancelled the Feb one as I was full of cold and didn't want to pass it on to her as he was still having treatment and then of course we had the lockdown. My hair is long so cutting it doesn't matter but as it's coloured the roots were showing quite badly. I'd managed to buy a hair dye before lockdown thinking it was approximately my colour so tried it out last week - it's about 3 shades darker! So far my husband doesn't seem to have noticed hmm

HurdyGurdy Thu 09-Apr-20 13:45:11

Missing her sooooo much. I was already well overdue for a cut and "colouring in" session before the lockdown, so it's out of hand now!

It's got to have been about 10 years since I coloured at home, so it'll be interesting to see how I get on. I have a couple of boxes of home dye that I think is near to my colour, so will be putting Davina McColl's claims to the test. I've also picked up a pack of root touch up in a similar colour, as we don't know when this incarceration will end.

I have it shoulder length anyway, so there's no style as such to worry about, thankfully, so it can just grow to whatever length it wants to. Side parting so no fringe to contend with either, and it can be caught up in a clip to keep it out of my way.

I always straighten my hair, but last night we had a virtual birthday party for a colleague who lives alone. I didn't have time to dry my hair and straighten it after washing, and everyone kept commenting how curly my hair is. By the end of the "party" I did indeed look like Crystal Tipps grin

Nope...doing just fine thanks. Did my roots (dark quartz) and added copper flashes with a kit after looking at a video online.
Usually pay about £120 for that incl cut at hairdressers but the whole caboodle cost just £10.30 from Superdrug...bought before lockdown. I bought enough for 3 more complete 'hair renovations'.
I feel sooo much better.

Purplepoppies Thu 09-Apr-20 14:04:15

I ordered colour and some other bits online from Boots. Not my usual shade as they were out of stock. I was slightly worried it would be too dark. Actually its turned out okay. My hair grows so fast. I wished I had been able to get a cut before lockdown. I have taken the (hairdressing) scissors to it today. It's not too bad. I haven't taken too much off. I'm not a hairdresser but haven't hacked myself a mullet ?

GabriellaG54 Thu 09-Apr-20 14:07:02

I'm not keen on root touch-up as it appears to cover your scalp too, which would normally show at least a faint white line where your part is...if you have one.

hulahoop Thu 09-Apr-20 14:22:56

My hair as been grey for a long time I was due to have it cut but lockdown cancelled it . It will be a mess in a couple of weeks but it doesn't matter in the scheme of things . know the feeling dragonfly ?

Buffybee Thu 09-Apr-20 15:00:18

My appointment should be a week today and as I have cut and highlights every six weeks, it's not looking too bad, just yet.
Haven't decided what I will do as time goes on. Mine is shoulder length with a fringe and I have cut it myself a few times before, by tying it in a ponytail at the front and cutting half an inch off. It gives a quite good layered effect.
Colour wise? I could try to do highlights myself ? or home-dye it all one colour.
Today for a change and for the hell of it, I've dried it in the sun with huge Velcro rollers in, it's very shiny and bouncy, which made me inordinately happy.
Small things..............

Susiewakie Thu 09-Apr-20 15:22:17

I'm looking like cousin it ! My fringe has decided to grow fast I was due to go this week ? will have to have a go at trimming it and using some nice and easy on roots

Jani Thu 09-Apr-20 16:00:27

Have got my Goldwell colour to put on when I need it - have to mix it with 10% peroxide ! Bit nervous about doing it - I don’t mind the colouring bit its getting the mixture right - not ready yet though . Hope you all keep safe and manage to have a nice Easter x

Esther1 Thu 09-Apr-20 16:08:43

I can wear my hair up and have bought some spray on colour for the roots. I am too nervous to use anything other than a wash out one. My fringe is definitely going to be a cut with kitchen scissors soon though!

Wendy Thu 09-Apr-20 16:45:41

I had my roots done just before the lockdown, joking to the hairdresser about what to use if she had to close!!! My daughter has bought me some Nice and Easy colour, not looking forward to doing it myself though. I will be white by the time we can go out at this rate! Nobody will know me.

Keffie12 Thu 09-Apr-20 16:51:18

I was due at the hairdressers, the week we went into lockdown. Due my 9 weekly colouring and trim.

Fortunately as I have very long hair there isnt a need for shape to be put in it. No one touches my hair, including me, but my hairdressers of 20 years.

I will manage with various tips I have found online. It's the colour, well roots that are niggling me. I shall have to hold out. You Tube is also useful for styling to cover greys and head bands are useful too.

I am trying just to wash my hair once a week (I usually wash it twice) as the longer you can leave it the better for its condition and shine.

Online shopping such as eBay and Amazon will certainly not be going out of business anytime soon.

Headbands, clips and everything you need can be bought on there

Regarding other things such as facials, waxing and so on. These can all be done at home. You can buy the products online or/and make the waxing products, facial masks etc yourself

"God" couldnt be everywhere, so God gave us Google" is my stock answer to everything now

I’ve cut my fringe, roots don’t look too bad as the dark blond blends with the mousey grey. It’s longer than it’s been for ages and I can now get it into a ponytail. If this goes on for much longer I’ll look like a geriatric Rapunzel. Hair dressers will be one of the few businesses that won’t have to worry when this is over. Imagine trying to get an appointment!
